  1. It's way too early to tell how successful this draft is. I think alot of people are judging this draft assuming that our defense, specifically our front 7, was improved as a result of our free agency signings. My most recent observations about the Giants defense are based on what I saw on the field. And what I saw on the field in 2015 was this: -The defense as a unit was the worst in the NFL. -JPP could not tackle. -Robert Ayers was our best defensive lineman, and now he is gone. -Our best linebacker from 2015 (Kennard) could not stay healthy. -Prince is gone It's fair to say Reese has made alot of moves to address the defense, in both free agency and the draft. With respect to the latter, they added additional competition at CB, S, and LB. But until they actually play pro snaps, that's all they are - competing for jobs. We have no idea if we got another Jayron Hosley, Phillip Dillard, etc. And the jury is still out until we see how much bang for the buck the Giants get from their free agent picks. If their free agency additions at DL and LB do not pan out as expected, this draft goes from "great" to "fire Reese". The 2016 draft was predicated on the belief that their horrible 2015 pass rush has already been fixed. If that's not the case, everyone will be remembering the Giants went 0-3 in the first three rounds while the rest of the NFL stocked up on pass rushers and run stuffers. I tend to agree far more often with Dan Graziano than not, and I think his draft analysis is pretty solid (see link below). Like most analysts, he loved the Shepard pick. I wanted Ragland instead, and I suppose I'll have to see how the season unfolds to know if Goodson is better than Ragland, as Jim predicts. I don't think Reese deserves blind faith regarding linebacker. Until I see otherwise, linebacker remains a weak, patchwork unit. It is a sad fact that Reese has NEVER drafted a linebacker who has been an impact player. That includes Kennard, who at this point earns an "Incomplete" grade. Every other linebacker Reese has drafted has been a failure. And his free agent linebackers have been bad more often than good. There were a couple exceptions, like Boley, who managed to have perhaps his best year as a pro in 2011. But the best free agent linebackers that Giants had were largely guys who were signed when Gettleman was doing the hunting. A huge wildcard in all of this is Bill McGovern. He's the guy who turned Herzlich into a potential 1st round pick prior to his illness. I think there is reason to hope our coaching at this position has been upgraded, and if so, it would be a huge offseason win for the Giants defense. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-giants/post/_/id/46549/giants-add-to-muddled-linebacker-inventory-take-lb-b-j-goodson-in-round-4
  2. I trust Jim more than I trust Reese. Go Giants!
  3. Seriously, I'm not going to knock the kid. I hope he's great. I just will wait to see it. Until then, he's a 4th round linebacker, which makes it better than a 5th or 6th round linebacker. If Jim is right that he's better than Ragland, I'm shipping him some Chicago deep dish at the end of the season. Go Giants.
  4. Sorry Tree. Just got some reaction from Reese: Wait, my bad, that's an old Phillip Dillard quote. http://www.bigblueinteractive.com/2010/05/07/2010-nfl-draft-review-and-rookie-free-agent-signings/
  5. I will withhold judgment pending the the results on the field. Currently, I have him ranked as our next Phillip Dillard.
  6. Sorry I will admit I don't really follow the mid-late rounds because they haven't mattered the past 7 seasons.
  7. I see then adding a 3rd QB, followed by a 5th RB. 6th round they go with another Mitch Petrus. They finish with a linebacker so all the Reese apologists can point out how many linebackers Reese has drafted....guy will be lucky to make roster as special teams player. 3rd round pick has bust written all over him. If you can't tackle you are worthless on defense. Giants got better on offense, and maybe replaced Prince with a #10 pick.
  8. I'm sorry. Ever since we passed on Ragland I've been in a bad place.
  9. Wait.... I just realized we have Odiggyziggy and Unga Bunga (lol at Booyah for that one).... Oh and a one handed DE. Huge sigh of relief, forgot how good we were on defense....was thinking about some other defense. Bring on the Cowboys!
  10. People act like Apple was a must-draft at 10. I disagree. I am looking at this from a 2016 perspective. The Cowboys picked up the best RB in college to run behind the best line in football. We went 0-3 in addressing the front 7. At the same time, LBs and DEs were flying off the shelf, going to teams who had much better defenses to begin with. My head was spinning. I am thinking of December, playoffs on the line, terrible weather conditions, and wondering which team wins in the 4th quarter. Not a happy scenario if you are a Giants fan.
  11. Giants should deal their 4th and 6th to pick up a 3rd string QB.
  12. Good morning gentleman. I have regained control of my bowels. Just for context.... We had the chance to draft the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. SEC. Defensive Player of the Year. Alabama. We passed, and Rex Ryan jumped all over that. And yet people are excited about some safety who cannot make tackles. I'm sure Shepard is a good prospect at receiver. Had the Giants drafted a linebacker in the first round of 2015, and that rookie was defensive rookie of the year, I would be more excited about Shepard. But that is not reality. Our reality, as Seph, Booyah, and Nas pointed out, was that our linebackers absolutely blew, and were exploited to the point of embarrassment last season. So, we follow up a disgraceful year by ignoring a position that has been a glaring weakness for years. We spent a top ten pick on a CB that might have been available at 25. If I'm not mistaken, on a trade value basis, that's a 1300 point slot. We could have traded down to 25, and still gotten Apple, while picking up an extra 2nd and two extra 3rd round picks. Sure, Apple might have been gone by then. But other solid CBs were still available in the back of the 1st and top of the 2nd. So far, I grade this draft as a C+ without looking at our roster, and a D when you consider our top needs (OL, LB). And when you consider what Dallas has done, it looks even worse. I hope that "Snacks" has developed sideline to sideline speed. I hope our 3rd round safety learns to tackle. I hope our new cornerback can take on Zac Martin when he's pulled and hits our back 7 with Elliot right behind him. The Cowboys have been rebuilding their old dynasty. The Giants have countered with a good looking flag football defense. Again, to repeat....Dallas won't need to throw to our shiny new defensive backs. They can and will run all day long, and in those rare situations they need to convert a third down, Witten will be there, as he has every game for the past 4 years. As Seph mentioned, we are now in the 4th round, which means the draft is effectively over for our crew. Very disappointed, and mostly in myself for looking at a draft that was stocked with linebacker like a salmon run, and swallowing the bullshit from fans and media that this was going to be the year they addressed linebacker. Keep drinking the cool aid and thinking this year the results will be different despite the same positional negligence.
  13. Ragland is a fucking linebacker. He's going to be a stud for the Bills. Anyway, Shephard will be great in garbage time (aka, beginning of the 4th quarter). Have a good weekend, I'm out.
  14. Ragland is going to be a fucking stud for Rex Ryan. Shepherd should help everyone who bets the Over.
  15. Hope Shepard scores a shit ton of points.
  16. Ragland to Bills. Turning this shit off.
  17. He's really going to help the last ranked defense.
  18. Tunsil got fucked royally. I think of the dumb shit I did when I was his age. His only crime so far is being a young man goofing off in college who happens to be an outstanding college prospect. As far as his admission about taking money.....yeah major damage there, but again, kid gets fucking blindsided on national TV and decides to tell the truth. Miami got a guy who has every motivation to kick ass. I felt sick watching the whole thing unfold....NCAA rips these kids off.... Coaches, scouts, and every NFL professional Exec balls deep in the complicity, plus half of them are likely doing drugs or at one time experimented.....and they film the train wreck in real time.
  19. I like your assessment, and have no disagreements there. I also realize you are talking about what you'd like to see, and not what we should expect. SI has us mocked to take Myles Jack in Round 2 at #40. I don't see that happening at all. I admire Jack's honesty in openly discussing his long term medical prognosis....I'm sure his agent is about to off himself, though. Myles Jack may have a 2-3 year shelf life. But if he's a stud during those 2-3 years, he will have exceeded Jerry Reeses' 2nd round draft record. http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/04/29/nfl-mock-draft-round-2-picks-predictions-players Using the same link I could see the Giants going with a QB in Round 2. I could also see them take a WR. You need to just take whatever your opinions are and wipe your ass with them, because Reese blows. Ragland would be the safer choice. Tough linebacker in a meat grinder conference, the Giants cupcake defense is starved for guys like that. He's got Pepper Johnson potential.... Gil Brandt's best remaining player link is pretty cool....they have Jack as the top pick left, with Ragland as the 4th best. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000656617/article/2016-nfl-draft-best-remaining-prospects?campaign=tw-cf-sf25304001-sf25304001 I can't believe I'm even discussing linebackers, though. Mods, please delete this post, I've clearly lost my fucking mind to think Reese would even consider one earlier than the 5th.
  20. I read this morning he also took money from a coach.
  21. Reese is in full "save your ass" mode. He's run out of coaches to throw in front of the bus. So, expect him to stick to whatever chart they have that graded Apple as a top 10 talent.
  22. Part of luck is being in the presence of dumb people at the right moment, though.
