  1. I'm very frustrated with my new computer with Windows 8 - no matter what I do, there is no way that I can hit the return key while posting on here in order to drop down a line. It pretty much does the opposite of everything I do. I have had real problems since getting Win8 and am in the process of getting my old computer going again and will be back to Windows 7. Regardless....I do everything in MS Word and then try to copy/paste and it looks perfect until I hit "post" and then what pops up looks nothing like what was just on the board. Weird. Later this evening if I get a chance, I simply type it in.....well, no...I can't hit carriage return so it would be one long line again. That's the reason I did it in Word in the first place so I could simply cut and paste it and hopefully get the carriage returns. Like I said....frustrating.
  2. Okay.....here's my shot. Mostly plagiarized, then juggled players the way I think it might go. I give up - it won't transfer my numbered bullets - I can't edit them in - the edit function on this board ignores what I pick and chooses to show text in about a font of 6, etc. Must be this editor does not accept documents from WORD and can allow edits. Oh well...I tried
  3. I'd have a hard time putting a mock together because I automatically ignore the top 10 players on the board and don't keep track of other team's needs. So I try to only guess the Giants' picks. I'm really hoping for an impact player in the first round and taking a chance on a guy in the second who perhaps fell because of character issues or perhaps a mistake made in the past that allows him to fall, where as he would've been a sure fire first rounder. I think the two players with the most potential impact that might slip through the Giants are Ogletree and Eifert and I'd be happy with either of them. Happier with Eifert though because he'd bring an immediate impact without bringing garbage along with him. I really don't want the Giants to go with a "safe" pick like we did when we burned a first rounder on William Joseph because we really wanted a DT and he was the best DT left on the board. I loved it when we went for JPP when a lot of people were saying it was just too risky and we needed another DE like we needed a third tit. Turned out to be one of the best moves we ever made. In hindsight, if other teams knew what they know now, he'd have been off the board in the first 3 or 4 picks. I like it when we take a chance on an athletic monster that's hungry to prove himself.
  4. In my opinion (for what it's worth), a first round pick needs to be a DIFFERENCE MAKER. There will only be a couple of players left on the board that will be true difference makers - that is, if the Giants are lucky. If not, they should trade down. I like Fluker, but he is not going to be playing ahead of Diehl. He'll spell him off and on, but he won't take over the position. Hell....he might not even beat out Brewer who has been groomed for the position. Another thing to think about, is that a team wraps up an incredible amount of cap space on a first round player.....so he better be a difference maker. Do we really want tens of millions wrapped up on a RT when for half that we could probably get a proven FA? And it has been pointed out by several analysts that Fluker is a bulldozer that plods and pushes the line, but his Achilles heel is that he's so slow that he can't stop DE's who go around him. A difference maker might be a killer linebacker like Ogletree (if his character issues can be properly addressed) who is a monster of a linebacker who is superfast, gets sacks, turns on a dime, is a ball hawk, etc. Another difference maker would be a DE that constantly disrupts the line of scrimmage and has the QB throwing off his heals. Bjoern Werner might be that guy...I don't know, but it sure would be nice to have a bookend to JPP. Another difference maker would be Tyler Eifert, a huge TE that is as quick as a WR and catches unbelievable catches in traffic, yet is also a monster for blocking. He is being touted as the best TE to come out of college in a decade and he's only a junior. With his blocking skills, he could take on the DE's that slip around Diehl better than a first round OT like Fluker. Regardless....as much as I like Fluker, I'm not sure I want to wrap a big piece of our cap space on a guy who will not start this year and has a weakness for letting fast DE's get around him. I want the player we pick to make a DIFFERENCE and a difference THIS YEAR, not down the road. I guess it all goes back to, "In Reese we Trust".
  5. Coughlin has already said that he's moving Kiwi to DE this year.....which means an even more glaring hole at linebacker with the loss of Boley and Blackburn. I think Herzlick is the future and Conner is a plug-in for now, but with 3 starting LB's gone....there's a hole. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they grab T'eo. T'eo is slow, but a good leader. Too bad there's all that crap hanging over his head about a fake girlfriend. The Giants don't need distractions. With the exception of beefing up the O-line, the Giants really have to improve their defense which ranked 31st last year. Losing Kenny Philips didn't help, although Stevie Brown seems to have really come into his own and Will Hill also seems to have gotten into NFL shape. Philips was hurt so often that maybe it won't make a big difference anyway. The Giants trademark for the last decade has been the pass rush and that has really gone down hill. I can see the Giants going DE in the first round if a stud is sitting there for the taking. Fluker is NFL ready, but the book on him is that he's a slow bull - great for helping RB's get their yards, but gets beat by speedy DE's that swing around him. It'll be a tough call for NY on Thursday unless some real stud player just happens to fall in their laps. I'd be shocked if the Giants grabbed a TE, but after losing Boss....then Ballard....and now Bennett - TE is again a need. If Tyler Eifert is still on the board (highly unlikely)...I can see the Giants making everyone's jaw drop and snatching him up. It's happened a couple of times (JPP, Prince, etc.) and they were positions that were not high on the list of needs.
  6. Fluker would be a great pick. Diehl is past his prime and Fluker could step right in and solidify the right side of the line for the next five years or more. On the other hand....once again, we really need to upgrade our linebackers - especially in the middle. Conner isn't going to be the end all to our problems there. And with Osi gone and Tuck losing a step, a DE is really important ..... as well as Safety now that we've lost Philips. Coughlin has always said that the game is won in the trenches so I suspect either an OT or DE is high on his list. Still....the Giants have a habit of snatching the best player that fell through the cracks to them and it's usually worked out well for them. I remember when we snatched Manningham with a late 3rd rd comp pick even though he was rated as a top 15 player, but his character issues made him drop. If the same thing happened to Ogletree, I can see us grabbing him in the 2nd rd and Coughlin and Reese taking him to the shed for one of those long closed door talks about getting his act together. The Giants seem to be the only team capable of getting bad character guys to straighten their lives out. It will be interesting for sure.
  7. Best player available for sure (but it will be one of four positions (IMHO).....LB, OL, DE, S). I will be shocked if the Giants go with an offensive player (well....offensive line excluded) such as a WR or RB. The NY Post says Giants will go with MLB Alec Ogletree. Man I hope not. Enormous talent......but right in line with Pacman Jones, another enormous talent. I don't see the Giants going with someone who is so riddled with personal problems and genuine character flaws. I expect them to take one of the following: DE Bjoern Werner; MLB Manti Te’o; OT D.J. Fluker; or S Kenny Vaccaro. Of the four, Vaccaro is most likely to go ahead of pick 19, although it's possible all 4 will be gone. The Giants' front office is probably drooling at the possibilities they'll have Thursday night. Personally....I like Werner for the first pick. He's an animal in the mold of JPP (raw, athletic, hungry)
  8. I think you jinxed the team with this thread Naz. Actually, you pretty much nailed it. Now we have three weeks or so of really crappy play, only for the guys to get it together later in the season. Truth be told, we've played so crappy the last couple of weeks it was amazing we were even at 6-2.
  9. What's the deal with blacking out the "game of the week" in San Francisco and Washington?
  10. Interesting point. But we have to remember that "history repeats itself" in human behavior.....not in the NFL. Atlanta looks tough this year but the Giants are putting more points on the board than they are (so far anyway). While the Giants are averaging giving up 20 pts per game, Atlanta is giving up 18.6 pts per game. Again, meaningless trivia. Suffice it to say that both the Giants and the Falcons have a solid team this year. Atlanta is due for a drubbing though!
  11. Have to admit....Tynes has been really good this year. He has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for October. In those four games for the month, Tynes was 13-of-14 on field goal attempts and 12-for-12 on extra point tries and had nine touchbacks on kickoffs. When someone does really well on the special teams, it tends to be noticed, but rarely talked about. Tynes has been money in the bank all year and how nice it is to finally get some steady play out of our kicking game. I no longer hold my breath when we go for a field goal. I tip my hat to the man with the golden leg!
  12. I wasn't aware Joisy. I have a hard time keeping track of everyone's home on this board and just went by your handle to assume you were from Jersey. I'll remember now that you are now a Carolina Gal.
  13. That's a really nice story. He's got a really great family. He may be a small town boy with simple needs, but when in New York, he catches as many Yankee games, Knicks games, and Ranger's games as he can.....so he has a taste for the big city as well. He hasn't been himself lately it seems. Hopefully, he'll get that fire back in his belly that caused him to rise to the status he had a year ago or so. Thanks for posting Joisy gal. BTW, how did you makeout from the storm? Are you far enough away from the ocean to have missed the devastation?
  14. Herzlich will do a good job. He's tough and athletic, but more importantly, he's a cerebral type player that (like Eli) spends far more time going over game film than his counterparts and is learning the multitudes of offensive schemes and what they mean to the defense. Eli is a cerebral QB that reads the defense like a well paid defensive coordinator. Herlich isn't there yet, but in another year or two, he's going to be the equivilent of a defensive QB by reading the offense's setups like a well paid offensive coordinator.
  15. I love it when sports teams take the time to recognize our real heroes....those in uniform. Yankee Stadium takes time to pause, pray (if you want), and remember our soldiers every single game during the 7th inning stretch and I can't tell you how much I appreciate that they do that.....no matter how politically incorrect it is to many.
  16. Also, whenever Romo tries to enter the discussion, he starts out with, "Don't laugh, but..." And then everyone jumps in with, "ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,..." This weeks QB conversation is one of the best yet. If you haven't seen it yet and missed the previous link, here it is again, http://profootballmock.com/nfl-qbs-on-facebook-week-8-halloween/
  17. Thanks for postin Joisy gal (BTW, hope you were spared the wrath of Sandy). I don't like it when ESPN has us ranked so high. It's a bad omen. But their commentator is right when he says, "Seventh time in nine New York seasons Tom Coughlin has gone 6-2 or better in the first half. Only twice has he won at least five in the second half". Hopefully we win at least 5 more games this season. Injuries have a lot to do with it. Hopefully, we make the playoffs and we are peaking at the right time....again!
  18. With Will Hill looking good, and Stevie Brown proving himself and Sash looking better each game.....it's going to be a hard call when all of them are healthy. I think Rolle getting paid the amount of 20 players making a half mil a year, has the most to worry about.
  19. RGIII: Don't worry, concussions don't have lasting effects Quinn: They don't? RGIII: Don't what? Quinn: have lasting effects? RGIII: Does what have lasting effects?
  20. Week 8 http://profootballmock.com/nfl-qbs-on-facebook-week-8-halloween/
  21. What I notice from this table is that our three divisional foes have a remaining schedule against losing teams while we have to play teams with winning records. Doesn't seem right....especially Filthydelphia getting the low hanging fruit.
  22. There's a whole lot of people questioning the officiating of that game. In particular, the time keeper with a slow finger on the "start button". Even TC questioned how the hell a team with 10 seconds left on the clock get 3 plays off. Those two spots (Bradshaw's first down if spotted correctly) and the Amukamara penalty that gave the boys an extra 15 - 20 yards by spotting it nowhere near the infraction ticked me off the most. Thankfully, even with the timekeeper's slow start finger, and some totally bullshit spotting of the ball by refs that seemed to be part of the boys fan club, the Giants walked away with a win leaving Dallas in never, never land for going to the playoffs this year.
  23. I think you have to give a little bit of credit to Dallas for shutting down our air game. Eli had some bad throws, but our guys were covered very well and they stuffed our run game. Dallas played great defense.....and their offense was really sporadic with 6 turnovers while still putting up a record number of yards for Romo. Even when we got the turnovers, we couldn't capitalize and settled for field goals (except JPP pick 6)....and thank heavens, Tynes was money all day long. Had we converted a few of those turnovers into touchdowns, the game wouldn't have been close at all. But Dallas stuffed us in the red zone over and over.
