  1. I personally can take only so much of Mel Kiper....I have to stay with NFL Network. Mayock can get under my skin as well, but not as bad as Kiper. At least Mayock played football and even used to be a Giant. Kiper has always been on the sidelines watching and never suited up....but his arrogance is such that you'd think he was a career pro-bowler.
  2. One thing I like about this draft is that it's short on standout potential superstars, but the draft is loaded. There will be hig quality picks in the first 3 or 4 rounds. Hopefully...the Giants staff have their shit together and are going to give us an early Christmas present with a stocking full of very good players that will be with us for years!!!
  3. For the tackle position, height is a good thing. Guards just need to be cement blocks that can move fast enough to get in the way and ideally, push a hole open when called upon. Tackles need to be much more quick on their feet and have long steps and long arms to deal with the whole new breed of DE's and LB's coming out of nowhere.
  4. Here's what I really, really hate about the draft. There's a ten minute allotment for each team to make their pick. The team with the very first pick has spent the last 3 months making up their minds on who they're going to take...and then let the clock run for nearly the whole 10 minutes before making their announcement. The first 3 or 4 picks should be done in a matter of a few minutes, but they always seem to drag it out. I can understand it later in the draft while waiting for offers to trade picks, but the first few are known long in advance and any trades would've already been made. I'm hoping the Giants are on the clock before 10PM, but it wouldn't surprise me it won't be until after 11....all because teams dawdle when they don't have to!
  5. Being a big time SU fan since I was a baby...not to mention I did some grad work there back in the 90's, I would like to see the Giants take a guy from the orange squad. I think Pugh will be available in the 2nd round, but because of his size, I suspect Long will go before him simply because of his freaky size and athleticism. According to papa Howie and brother Chris, Kyle is the most athletic one of the family....played baseball and was a left handed pitcher throwing in the mid to high 90's. He's played both OT and Guard (and DE too for that matter - had 16 sacks in 2 seasons) and one year at left tackle, but ended up playing left guard - not sure why they moved him there. I believe he can play tackle or guard and depending on which analysis you read, he's listed as a LT or a LG. Pugh: small, but tenacious - plays big, practices harder than teammates, and very disciplined. Long: perfect size for the position with all the athleticism to be a pro-bowler. Discipline and character is questionable. I think long term, Long will become the better of the two providing he wants to. Still...wouldn't mind having either on the team. Pugh was one of the few bright spots on the orange and he will give you everything he's got on every play.
  6. Big Blue Interactive site is claiming that the Giants are talking with Boley and might resign him. He was in a 5 year, 25 million dollar contract that was backloaded and hence the reason players get cut before their contracts are up. He's tested the FA waters and apparently there no team is knocking his door down. We could end up getting him back for league minimum....wouldn't that be a hoot.
  7. Well I'm very glad to hear something about this guy...especially something positive. Between Pope and Eli, he should get a chance to show us the real Myers. As far as Sash goes...he's actually been pretty good on special teams. Competing for playing time with Philips, Smith (where on earth did he come from), and Will Hill gave him few chances to shine. I don't think he's a lost cause, he just needs opportunity more than anything. I think he sticks on the team because he is a good ST player. An injury or two, and he'll be called upon to play more and maybe he'll have his breakout. Time will tell. That whole issue with the Adderal (sp) and subsequent suspension didn't help. But he's only 24 years old with 2 years NFL experience (including being on the Superbowl squad) so he's not even reached his prime yet and he has a future.
  8. The 2003 draft was a little of the worst and the best. We had 11 picks that year and burned the first on William Joseph (total bust) and picked up a half dozen players that were fodder waiting to be cut (Babers, Ponder, Drake, Lucier, Walter, etc.), yet we still managed to pick up Osi (2nd), Deihl (5th), and Tyree (our 3rd 6th round pick). If not for those 3 guys, it would've been a complete disaster. With 11 picks, you should get more than 2 starters and a special teams player out of all that. I will forever be sickened when hearing "and with their first pick in this year's draft, the New York Giants select William Joseph, defensive tackle out of Miami". Uhggg
  9. I would be surprised if Watson was still on the board when we pick our second. I'm intrigued by Kyle Long who isn't quite ready to step into the OT position, but has the perfect size and is very athletic....and of course, he's the son of Howie and brother of Chris. I've heard he's a little green (focused on baseball rather than football) and that he's got some off the field baggage which stopped him from being a top 15 pick. Not sure what the baggage is, but with his family behind him, I have to believe he will want to excel. The fact that he wanted to be a professional baseball player doesn't mean much. Watson focused on basketball rather than football too...but he's going to be a good OT when the dust settles.
  10. Wow...you put a lot of work into this Jim. Nice job. I really believe the most important picks are 3rd through 5th where there will be real good players to be found, depending on how good of a job our scouts do. First and second picks have to be value picks and it really depends on who's left on the board. I would be happy with Richardson in the first (unless there's some stud that fell through the cracks like an Ansah or Rhodes). And I'd like to see us go for a linebacker earlier than the 5th round. I'm surprised at your last pick: John Lotulelei. Surprised only because of the name. Is he Star's brother? What's the chance there'd be two players in this draft whose last name is Lotulelei and not be related? It's not like Smith.
  11. We signed him as a free agent after Bennett took the money and ran. Few options out there and we got Myers cheap on a four year contract. I hope he can pan out and turn into a monster for us. He did have a big game last year against the Browns, but his productivity has been very sparse the last 4 years. Maybe Pope can turn him into a "Gronk" type player....the way Gronk carried New England the last couple of years. I'm not confident that will happen though.
  12. Pascoe is a great player. He gives it his all and does a serviceable job at it. He'll never have 40 catches and he'll never be a great blocker, although his blocking is what keeps him on the team. Adrien Robinson is little by TE standards and is being groomed for catching a few passes along the way. He's too small to ever be both a solid receiver and a solid blocker. The guy (Myers) we signed from Oakland was a 6th round draft pick 4 years ago and did a serviceable job. Not a great blocker. Caught 4 TD's in 4 years. He's not the future of Pope's gang. We've let 3 excellent TE's go in the last 3 years - big guys, the way a TE is supposed to be - and one who can block like an offensive tackle, or pick up yards by the bunches. Those guys are rare and we don't have one. We have the best TE coach in the NFL, but refuse to give him the tools to excel.
  13. Will Allen was still on the team in 2003, but was on injured reserve. Peterson was gone after 2002. We drafted William Joseph in 2003 because we "had to have a DT" in the first round. Very bad decision. He was born with the right genes to have all the physical tools. The knock on him was that he was lazy, didn't like to practice, and didn't have the need to excel. And the knock turned out to be dead on. But he put tens of millions in his pocket courtesy of the New York Football Giants.
  14. Yeah....there's a lot of distractions available....drugs, alcohol, gambling, playing with handguns and shooting yourself in the leg while in nightclubs, etc. My weakness would be the babes, but I'll never get to really know. Can only dream.
  15. I agree completely about Kiwi giving us flexibility. Can't believe you have a kicker getting picked before a Tight End. Our TE situation is a glaring hole and when it comes to kickers, the Giants have always taken a veteran FA over any rookie out of college no matter how far the kid can kick the ball. I think in the first two rounds, it depends entirely on "who's there on the board". The Giants have rarely used a first round pick to fill a need and always go for the gifted athletic player that falls through the cracks to them, regardless of need. The last time they did that (well, excluding last year as RB was a need and Wilson just happened to be the BPA on the board) was back in the day when there was a run on DT's and William Joseph was the last available DT that seemed to be promising. He was a huge bust and we left players like Nnamdi Asomugha and Boss Bailey on the board - apparently because we didn't need a CB or LB when we had the Frank Walker, Ray Green, and Reggie Stevens on the corners, etc.
  16. All I know is that if a guy starts focusing on poontang...he doesn't focus on the job he's being paid to do. Seen it many times.
  17. Offensive Line: If Diehl stays healthy, the line should hold up for the 2013 season. Brewer has shown flashes and is being groomed to take over RT, but isn't proven yet. We need a RT and a RG to be ready to step in next year as well as be ready this year in the case of injuries. Linebackers: With Boley gone and the possibility of Kiwi going to DE like we're hearing, that leaves us shorthanded with Jacquian Williams, Keith Rivers, and Spencer Paysinger on the outside and Dan Conner and Mark Herzlich in the middle. Conner was the no. 1 MLB coming out of the draft a couple of years ago, but like Rivers (another no.1 LB in the draft) hasn't shown the flashes they did in college. We need to pick up a couple of LB's for depth and possible starting. Defensive Line: With Osi and Canty gone, the defensive line needs some rebuilding. Moving Kiwi to DE will solve the hole left by Osi, but Tuck doesn't seem to be getting better with age and seems to be in the decline. Tuck is a favorite of mine, but I also see reality. Let's hope he gets rejuvenated this year The guards are only solid with Linval Joseph. We have Patterson coming in and he's supposed to be a Rocky Bernard type, but time will tell. Marvin Austin has not showed he can play at the NFL level, Marcus Kuhn is coming off an injury and is green, and Shaun Rogers missed all of last season with health issues and probably is at the end of his career. We really need a solid DT and it wouldn't hurt to find a good DE to groom. Cornerbacks: Amukamara and Webster will be the starters and the Giants are high on Hosley. Bringing back Ross helps, but isn't a cure-all and Terrell Thomas has had 3 ACL tears and it's hard to think he'll be his old self this year. A good CB is a need as Webster is on the decline. Safeties: Antrel Rolle is no youngster and we're paying a king's ransom for his salary. Will Hill and Stevie Brown have filled in adequately. Hopefully, Brown isn't a one-year wonder and will duplicate last year's illustrious play. The book is still out on Tyler Sash and hopefully he's ready for a breakout years. We could use another safety as it's almost guaranteed that Rolle will be cut at the end of the season because of his contract. Tight Ends: Brandon Myers is the new kid on the block and his stats for the last 4 years aren't very impressive. Adrien Robinson showed some flash, but has a long way to go to be a blocker, and Bear Pascoe is a lunch pail guy who does an adequate job, but is never going to light up the score board or go to the pro bowl. We need a big TE that can block and make tough catches in the red zone. Running Backs: Should be pretty good here as long as Wilson and Brown stay healthy. De'rel Scott is serviceable and may be better than anyone expected if given the chance. I don't see the Giants going for a RB early. Wide Receivers: The one position we are loaded. Nicks and Cruz are studs and assuming Randle continues to grow...we're looking very good. Jernigan has shown flashes, but will have a hard time getting playing time if the big three ahead of him stay healthy. No real need here. Quarterbacks: Set! Special Teams: I don't see a big hole here. We needed a return guy, but Wilson stepped up and showed us we have a good one. I don't see us drafting a kicker or a special teams guy. ---------------------------- We need: OT, OG, DT, DE, LB, TE, CB...not necessarily in that order.
  18. I tend to agree with you Jim, although Ogletree probably is the most gifted athlete among the linebackers...it's just that there's a huge question mark about his coachability to put that gift into actual workable product. And you are right, he is a bad tackler. He can get to someone fast, but doesn't wrap up. I have my doubts he'd turn our LB corps into one that other teams feared. I actually believe that some highly regarded player is going to slip through the cracks and the Giants are going to snatch him up simply because he's just too good to pass up. Maybe it's someone like Star Lotulelei or Chance Warmack or Ziggy Ansah or something. It happens every year when teams' plans goes up in smoke after there's a run on DE's or OT's or WR's. Teams panic and grab the next best DE or WR once their game plan has been blown up and it leaves some stud player still on the board 10-12 spots further down then they were expected to go. Nothing would surprise me come Thursday night. All I want is an impact player that can be a factor THIS YEAR...especially if we are going to wrap up millions in a contract for a player. Personally...I want Tyler Eifert and I know that rubs everybody's fur the wrong way, but he'd be an immediate impact and game changer THIS YEAR and having a super TE taking up millions of cap space for the next 4 or 5 years makes me feel a lot better than having millions wrapped up on a player waiting on the bench and is a couple years away from starting. Hence the reason I don't like offensive lineman in the first round - lots and lots of money for a player to sit on the bench for a year or two.
  19. Yeah, yeah....all ball players get surrounded by chicks willing to put out. Hopefully Amakamura focuses on being the best CB in the league rather than how much pussy he can get. Heck...I know some girls in Binghamton (young and very pretty) that went to a hotel with a couple of guys from out of town who came to watch the BC Open and at a bar near the golf course told the girls they were golf pros on the tour (of course they weren't), but the girls believed them and did things for the guys they'd never do for their boyfriends or husbands. Young and/or superficial pretty girls tend to do really stupid things if they think they are about to be used as a sperm dump by a celebrity....even if they have no idea if the guy is a celebrity or not...duhhh. Stay focused Prince - those girls are a dime a dozen and there's one behind every tree. Think football man!!!
  20. By about half way through the season, I get a little bored with football as well (all sports actually)...but especially if the Giants don't look like they have what it takes to make a decent run in post season. By March, I'm brain dead from absorbing so much college basketball and just starting to get interested in baseball and could absolutely care less about football and each Spring I think that I don't really care about the draft this time around. And then about the second week of April, I find myself obsessed with the draft all over again. It's a cyclical thing - year after year. For whatever reason, the draft to me is almost more exciting than the game itself...and that shouldn't be. It's as if by some stroke of luck, we are going to get the best player in the draft even though we're almost always drafting at the back half of the thing. It's a curse I think. Sorta like buying a lotto ticket and getting my hopes up that there's a chance in hell I could win.
  21. I have to agree with Naz here. Carradine is a stud, but coming off of surgery for a torn ACL has red flags all over it. He'd definitely be worth a 2nd round pick with the hopes that lightning strikes and he's forever pain free and has no residual effects from the surgery. If he stays healthy, he's probably the top DE in the entire draft - bar none. But if he can't stay healthy, it's pissing tens of millions of dollars down the drain.
  22. I've changed a few picks on my original posting so bear with me. Killa got it right by putting Nassib in as Buffalo's pick. I should have caught that myself as I live close to Syracuse and it's the team I root for and Nassib and coach Marrone have a very close relationship. For those who don't know...the Buffalo Bills chose Syracuse's Doug Marrone as their new head coach. Marrone immediately brought more than half the Syracuse coaches with him. And Marrone has been enamored with Nassib for the last 3 years while coaching Syracuse. Nassib's only real problem was that Syracuse rarely had 5-star recruits to work with (probably not had one in 15 years) and built teams around 2-star players and many unheard of players...so Nassib was limited with his options. And still put up good numbers. No doubt in my mind that Buffalo will snatch Nassib off the board. They know he'll be gone by the second round and they want him on the team and QB is a need position for them.
  23. I think there's some talent out there besides these two, but Eifert is clearly the cream of the crop and maybe the best TE to come out of college in several years. Ertz is going to be good, but he's not in the class with Eifert. I know people are knocking me for thinking we might go with Eifert, but I would absolutely love to see him put on the blue. He is an instant game changer and will disrupt and cause matchup problems for opposing defenses. Adding a legitimate threat across the middle forces linebackers away from Cruz or Randle. We already have one of the best receiving corps in the league and a big time threat for short yardage really forces the opposition to free up others. Besides....in the last three years the Giants have lost Boss, Ballard, and now Bennett. Don't know much about Myers coming in, but he's only 6'3", a 6th round pick in 2009, and has a total of 4 TD's in 4 years.....which doesn't thrill me. And I doubt he's a blocking machine at that size (but I could be wrong). Truth is, our only real proven TE is Bear Pascoe - who I like a lot, but he's not a game changer. Eifert not only is a huge threat as a receiver, but has proven himself to be an excellent blocker and would be an immediate help to our offensive line dealing with the quick DE's that juke, spin, and get around less agile linemen. Had he come out last year (in his sophomore year) he would've been a 1st rd pick. And besides, every coach on the team has had a chance to get a stud, but poor Pope (arguably the best TE coach in the NFL) has done magic with throw offs. Doesn't he deserve just once to have a stud given to him??? It's not like me to wish for an offensive player in the first round, but I don't see a game changing defensive player falling to us with the exception of Ogletree and he scares me to death with his attitude and track record of drugs, guns, and various other arrests. Werner might also be a game changer, but there'll be a run on DE's after the first one is taken leaving second tier scraps for the Giants to pick from. Vaccaro would be a nice pickup, but I think he'd have a hard time playing ahead of Stevie Brown, Will Hill and even Sash. IMO, the only open spot for a newbie to step right in and be a starter is at TE. Every other position on the team is already claimed by a starter and our high priced first rounder will be on the bench waiting his turn. And I love stocking up on offensive linemen, but in almost every case, they are 2 or 3 years away from being NFL ready. Some of the best OL-men in history are late round picks or UDFA's. It's the coaches job to get the line working as a single unit...and that takes time....even with players who excelled in college. I don't believe I've ever seen a team turnaround because they drafted an offensive lineman with a first round pick. I still can't get over OT Robert Gallery being taken right after Eli Manning in the 2004 draft....ahead of Larry Fitzgerald, Sean Taylor, Rothlesberger, DeAngelo Hall, etc. I was one of the fools on the sideline all upset because I wanted Gallery so bad, and instead drafted Rivers. Gallery was touted as "can't miss", "a league of his own", "a franchise left tackle", "once in a decade player", etc. However, in the NFL, he couldn't protect the QB and was moved to guard where he was average. After sputtering around and retiring, New England picked him up for league minimum...when that historic draft was all said and done, we ended up with Eli and the great Gallery made zero difference on Oakland's team who never panned out other than becoming filthy rich (making 8 million a year with guaranteed 50+ million) and putting Oakland behind the 8-ball for three years. I am forever leary of burning first round picks on the O-line. The college game is nothing like the NFL and it shows up more than ever on the o-line.
  24. I discovered the "toggle key" in the upper left hand corner. Never noticed it before - and I clicked it. and now it let's me do a carriage return and paste normally....
