Then pick any of those other players. Epenesa is intriguing.

OK... Coaching Changes. Lets hear some Names...

Is Mike McCarthy still a consideration? -
If we can replace Hernandez this off-season with someone better, why shouldn't we?
-
He's regressed. What has he done this season to indicate he can be a reliable starting guard next season?
-
Can Solder play RT?
-
Everyone on the OL is a backup/practice squad player except Zeitler. It's time to admit Hernandez is a bust, the Halapio experiment at C failed, and Nate Solder is the worst signing in Giants history.

Drop Schurmer. Make keeping Gettlemen conditional on how he handles the Leonard Williams contract. If he pays Williams more than $11mm per year, then he should be fired for not only incompetence but also the sunken cost fallacy, and inability to admit a decision was dumb and to cut your losses.
-
Chase Young disappeared and did absolutely nothing the past three games when facing quality opponents. All the more reason to be glad to draft someone else; OL Andrew Thomas, DB/LB Isaiah Simmons, DB Jeff Odukah, WR Jerry Jeudy, DE AJ Epenesa

Wait but I thought we had pro bowl talent with Leonard Williams??? The guy we're about to give a massive contract to....because DG has to, or else he looks like an idiot. What happened???
-
I have reconsidered and changed my mind on firing DG this offseason. Joe and Evan brought up a good point. You're not just changing one position in the organization but the entire scouting department and approach. I now think this might bring too much chaos and upheaval in a short time. I'd also like to add that DG has made some obviously huge mistakes in free agency (e.g. Nate Solder) and trades (e.g. Leonard Williams)...I'd like to see how he reacts and works to correct these, if at all. Does he cling to these moves and the sunken cost fallacy? Or does he cut his losses while he can, and work to correct them. If he doesn't shape up in 1-2 years and get us pointing in the right direction, consider canning him then.

The game where they managed one first down in the 2nd half against a lousy defense that the dolphins and redskins hung 37 and 27 pts on respectively?
-
He did look good against the 32nd ranked defense. Pencil him in as a backup next year.

https://www.si.com/college/2019/12/14/chase-young-return-ohio-state-nfl-draft I personally have preferred an OL like Andrew Thomas over Chase Young.

Ugh...

What now?

My problem with Schurmer is: 1) He seems content with just being "in the game" i.e. being within a score or two by the 4th quarter. He's also seemingly content if they have a few nice drives, defensive series etc, so he can say "Hey, we looked good there for a few minutes." 2) Complete mis-use of Saquon Barkley in particular, but also others on offense. 3) Poor planning. Poor in game adjustments, adjustments on the fly. Salient example is the 2nd half of the Phili game. 4) He makes far too many excuses "We're young" "We're injured" "That guy didn't do what he was supposed to do" and refuses to take responsibility. 5) He has clearly been outfoxed by other coaches several times over the past 2 years.

The Seahawks, Chiefs, 49ers, Rams, and Bills as examples all turned over their last coaches quickly, and they're largely doing well lately. Moreover, Garrett, Marvin Lewis, Jay Gruden, are guys that other franchises kept around far too long just for the sake of it. The point is to find the right person for the job, and Schurmer isn't it, regardless of personnel on this team.

I see more macro level mistakes than tactical ones or specific individual decisions. For instance, poor game planning, poor in game adjustments...e.g. coming out of the half of the Phili game and only gaining 40 yards or whatever is unacceptable. Granted, he has been dealt poor set of cards, but I can't help but think another coach (e.g. Frank Reich, Tomlin, Mike McCarthy, etc) would do better. Moreover, his attitude...he almost seems content with just being in the game (within a score), or playing well for a quarter or two, even if they lose. He makes endless excuses (we're young, we're injured, oh that player made a mistake). I also go back to the Kim Jones question "Name one area where this team has progressed from the beginning of the season until now."
