  1. Darius Slayton is a deep threat. 4.4 40 speed.
  2. If they like him that much, they could have signed him this off-season. Why give up draft picks for 8 games when your season is going nowhere???
  3. He's an unrestricted free agent so the Giants get no dibs....and just gave up two draft picks to see him for 8 games.
  4. Oh it's dumb because they could have signed him this upcoming off-season (they have to anyway if they want to keep him). Now they also gave up draft picks for no reason. The team is going nowhere this year; why do we need him for 8 games?
  5. And joins a cast that is already sub-par at rushing the passer.
  6. Greg Rosenthal is reporting that there's a small potential contingency. If the Giants don't sign Williams to a long term deal, they could get a 3-4th round compensatory pick in 2021 for letting Williams go in free agency. Those would be late picks in each of those rounds, but still. Not saying it's good...just pointing out the implications. Of course, the drawback of that scenario is the giants would ditch a 5th rounder, and move back ~30-60 spots on an earlier pick....just to see Leonard Williams for 8 games.
  7. The other logical explanation is Getty is trying to get fired rather than quit because he has some clause in his contract that still pays him if he's fired, lol.
  8. The only thing I can rationalize in this trade is potentially (speculating here on what they might be thinking): - Williams has underachieved, particularly the past three years - Perhaps the staff thinks he still has potential and that they can bring it out and turn him into a pro bowler (he's only 25) - Perhaps Getty thinks because he has underachieved, he may be able to ink him to a long term deal that's not too expensive (e.g. instead of $15-20mm per year that he might have to pay a top defensive player, maybe get Williams for something like 5 years $50mm). Also, better system fit?
  9. And BC, I also hold you personally responsible for this trade
  10. I'm just trying to figure out what the heck Getty might be thinking, and if I'm missing something.
  11. So we have a lot of other core payers to pay in the next 1-2 years, yet now we're going to have to pay Williams during that same time, at a $10mm premium, vs Hill's rookie contract....for 1.5 more sacks? And we gave up a 3 and a 4....
  12. So Leonard Williams and his 7 sacks in 2 1/2 years and who you're going to have to pay $10mm + per year in a long term contract is part of the solution, but BJ Hill, with 5.5 sacks in 1 1/2 years and three years left on his cheap rookie contract is not???? So we're going to pay a $9-10mm premium and two draft picks for 1.5 more sacks????
  13. Tomlinson has two years left on his contract (through 2020), and BJ Hill has three (through 2021).
  14. Why would BJ Hill be a goner? He's played in most snaps this year....as much as Tomlinson and Lawrence.
  15. 0 sacks on the year. 7 sacks the past 2 1/2 years. Wahoo!
  16. Whyyy????????? The defensive line is young and fine! Why with one year left on his contract?????
  17. Bad teams try to rationalize their losses. "If only we made these two plays, we would have won."
  18. According to Spotract, if we cut Nate Solder this offseason, of his $19.5mm cap hit, $13mm would be in dead cap, resulting in saving only $6.5mm against the cap. I would say only do it if desperate. If we do try to bring in an LT, can we move Solder to the right side? https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-giants/nate-solder-7732/
  19. Yeah, I'm not going crazy over this. The defense will still be lousy.
  20. He was a former first rounder, with ample statistics and starts to back it up...and he's only 27. Where did his career go wrong that he was a unsigned FA all this time?
  21. Plus for this upcoming draft, Tua, who everyone is hyping as a lock for a franchise QB, is injured AGAIN. Herbert and Frohm look decent but the jury is still out on whether they are franchise QBs. QBs from Oregon historically do poorly in the NFL.
  22. That was the scouting report on him in college. Freakish athlete and traits, but inability to translate it on the field. Underachiever. He'll probably be an average starter/backup most of his career. As a full time starter, maybe 4-6 sacks per year in a 3-4 alignment.
  23. Lorenzo Carter hasn't shown anything to indicate that he's a 10 sack per year guy, or even an 8 sack per year guy. The jury is still out but he hasn't shown it yet.
