The top 5 safeties in the league make ~$ 11-$16mm, (in terms of their cap hit). Logan Ryan is not a type 5 safety so he won't get that kind of money, especially if the salary cap is going down or flat next year. He is though somewhere between a top 6 to 20 safety in the league, who generally make ~$5 - $11. I can't see him signing for $5-6mm. The sweet spot for Logan Ryan seems to be ~$8-10mm per year. I think it's just a matter of how many years on the contract. I wouldn't mess around. Offer him 3 years $30mm, with snap count incentives like he has now. You can backload the contract so the 2021 cap hit is only ~$8mm, which is reasonable. Let's not forget the guy is on the field for nearly 100% of the snaps in most weeks. He's also a veteran and a leader who's been vital for us.

If we get Logan Ryan for 3 years $30mm, I'd consider that a fair, low risk deal.

Re-sign him and Williams.

Figure enough cap space for Ryan, Tomlinson or Williams, and one big free agent signing at one of the positions listed above. I hate to say it but we may need to let Tomlinson walk so we can sign other higher priority positions. I can't see giving a massive contract of $14-20mm per year for a guy who only plays 50-60% of the snaps. Plus he's good but he's not like a pro bowler or game changer who can't be replaced. Is there really that much of a drop of if we go with BJ Hill instead, then bring in depth behind him and Lawrence? Unless we can somehow get him for less, like 4 years $48mm. Similar with Williams. Is he worth $14-20mm per year?

In that case, if we're keeping Engram and Solder, the only thing I change is below. By cutting Zeitler, Tate, Pulley, and Core, that should create ~$20-21mm in cap space. FA / Draft Top Priorities: - G - CB - WR - EDGE/Pass Rush - TE (to replace Engram) Secondary Priorities - RB depth - DL depth - OL depth

Release Zeitler, Solder, Tate, Pulley, Core...also do NOT tender Engram (saves us ~$6mm). This should give us an additional ~$30mm in cap space, for roughly $45-50mm in cap space. I consider re-signing Logan Ryan to be a top priority. If we give him like a 3 year $30mm contract, his year 1 cap hit may only be $7-8mm, not too drastic of an increase from this year. We're also going to need to re-sign one of Dalvin Tomlinson or Leonard Williams (probably Tomlinson). Coughlin is my dark horse for this team. I think he could have real long term potential.

By the way, Fackrell in 11 games only had a weak 3 sacks, but at least he was occasionally decent against the run. In the future for a pass rush at least, he's not going to be able to help us. We'll have to look towards other options to sign or draft.

And it comes as we just lost Fackrell, so we're really going to need guys to step up.
