  1. It's not just the Giant's though. This has been the case of the draft since it was first introduced. How does a guy like Jamarcus Russle go #1 overall? How do guys like Tom Brady go in the 6th? I think it was. How does Washington get two full drafts plus more when they traded the pick for Ricky William and not get a SB caliber team out of all of it? Every team misses on players, just as much as the Giant's do, however as said the Giants seem to be really good at recognizing talent outside of the draft.
  2. See what I don't understand about this article is this guy assumes that we paid him money just to be a return guy. He's a vetern WR, he can play every position on the return and coverage team and the most important thing people overlook is the guy is going to be taking away the return job for arguably the best WR in the NFL, one of the biggest things people complained about last year was Beckham returning the ball. The Giants went out and got the best special teams player in FA this year for what? 1.42 million a year guaranteed? Plus protection the future of Beckham.
  3. Maybe Spags is going to try and cook up a four man DT line, since last year our DEs couldn't contain anything on the outside.
  4. Isnt this everyone's case against JJ Watt on here? He gets to play against weak teams which pad his stats, he's not really as good as people make him out to be. Don't see why JPP cant be compared to the same standards.
  5. I'm not saying JPP is a bad player, he's obviously a top 15 DE in the league. However he has the Osi effect, he disappears for four, five game stretches when the team needs him the most to step up and make any sort of impact in a game (like he's now getting paid for) but instead will only show up when the team is done or playing against teams like Jacsonville, Tenseness, and St.Louis. If he can maintain that level of play from week one to week 17 this season like he did in the final five week then great, he'll be on his way to a sack record and earning every dollar of the franchise tag, but the only time he has ever been able to was in his breakout 2011 year. Despite Spags downfalls he's always been able to free up the D-line with bltiz packages and movement, maybe it will work with JPP and Moore. All I'm saying is JPP is now getting paid like he makes a difference in a game, I'd actually like to finally see him make an impact outside of the year 2011. In fact outside of maybe DRC, I'd like to see any Giant player live up to their contract and be an impact player.
  6. Ask the Patriots how it's working for them and Brady, must be nice to to only have to pay 8 million instead of 17 million like Eli is getting. Wonder what the Giant's could of done with that extra 9 million, maybe sign that safety everyone wanted.
  7. So we metaphorically had 30 million in cap space going into this year that we could of metaphorically signed a impact player with? If we drafted Patrick Willis and Aldon Smith our LBs wouldn't have been so bad in the past either. It's hindsight, the fact remains after the Giant's franchised JPP (who once again should of just let walk) they were only 16 million above the cap with dead space coming from Baas being added on to this year and draft pick bonuses to keep in mind. Fuck the Giant's could of cut every two years ago and we could be 80 million over the cap, still doesnt help the fact that the Giant's never had any money to spend with their FA plan this off season.
  8. I'm sure the Giant's tried to be 30 million in cap space. But you cant force guys like Eli and JPP into contracts/extensions that are beneficial to the team when the only possibility of that happening is if their agents decide it. We could of let JPP walk (and we should have) and I cant see the Giant's telling Manning to sign an extension or they are going to cut him.
  9. The difference is you're not guaranteed to wipe out on a motorcycle or skiing, or you can atleast limit the risk by not driving like an idiot and not taking on slopes above your skill level. In football it's your job to run as fast and as hard as you can into other guys (usually bigger than you) who are running as hard and as fast as they can into you. It's not like he can ask the other teams O-line and RBs to go easy on him because he has had concussions in the past, he can't limit the risk.
  10. Because most of them are going to cost more than that in cap space. People forget about the singing bonus on top of the cap number players will take up their first year. One top of the draft picks you have to sign. The Giant's were never in a good spot cap wise this offseason, I don't see why people think otherwise, unless we start cutting players and be 30 million over the cap next season.
  11. He's quality depth and he's better than what we had starting on O-line last year. It's something the Giant's need instead of having to rely on Herman and Mosely for depth.
  12. This thread is fucking hilarious after the Lebowski change.
  13. Really cause all I've read is how the Giant's have done well with what cap space they have. Did people think we had like 40 million in cap space or something?
  14. Eli is gettting paid top 5 QB money. JPP is getting paid like he actually makes a difference. Beatty is making 8 million a year. Prince is getting paid like he doesn't disappear when it matters. David Bass is wasting 4 million in dead cap money this year. It's a habit of the Giant's.
  15. From what I read, the Giant's arnt in the great of a cap spot, much like last year. Eli's 19 million isnt helping the situation and tagging JPP put another 14 on top of that. The Giant's have long term cap room, but it's not like they have 30 million to go spend on singing bonus and yearly contracts.
  16. I really dont see how he did anything negative to the team. But hey guess we have to look forward to the new C.C.Brown to patrol the secondary.
  17. I'm just wondering who would the Giants have money to sign that you would think elevate the team? The only one I could think of is Suh and even that would put the Giant's in cap hell.
  18. Depth signing, and new blood needed on the already anemic O-line. Cheap to boot.
  19. I think this signing, with Jennings back and fourth health and Williams still earning his stripes, bring in the veteran guy who can do it all and help keep legs fresh. And a very reasonable contract at that as well. Good move by JR, basically gives MaccaNoodle more options then just having a statue RB stay in to block, cause this guy can make plays out of the backfield.
  20. Well when the team is as good as the Pats have been for the last 10 years, players there want to win, and the team seems to only sign guys who want to win. Meanwhile we have a mogo in JPP who is going to eat up 14 million in cap space and do nothing but rack up meaningless sacks in the last five games of the year.
  21. To be fair the Redskins have been imploding since Snyder bought the team.
  22. I think it's more of a verbal thing than anything else, the agent talks with the team, team talks with agent, agent reports back to player. I'm sure when something is agreed upon the team writes up the contract to be signed the moment FA begins, and with the advent of twitter and social media all it takes if a quick message from an "inside anonymous source" and a guy like Adam Sheftler breaks the news before FA begins. Now a days every big sports channel has their one analyst who has an "inside guy" on every team, just the type of world we are living in where news can be sent right in a matter of seconds when something happens. Maybe one day the NFL puts a stop to it, but until then it's ratings material.
  23. He had a good rookie season, has been a solid starter, nothing more nothing less. If he could be signed for the right price he would be a solid starter for the next few seasons, until they have room to get someone better.
  24. I still don't understand why some franchise player who ends up setting his team back 20 million a year against the cap, cant just one day decided to play for vet minimum after banking some money. Imagine if Eli just said "I have enough money, resign me to vet minimum for the next five years and go sign some players who will help us win" I understand the NFL is a multi-billion dollar business but I'm just surprised we havent seen this yet.
