For sure... guys are not just getting beat... they can't see basic assignments.  Stunts are like calculus to them.

Do college defensive lines not run stunts?  These guys have seen this shit before.  Not saying it's all the coach...but lets make sure we put down the rose shaded glasses and see what these guys have accomplished even in 1:1 matchups

This... the wrap up tackle is a lost art.  Here comes the MONSTER HIT... that misses and/or doesn't break the guy's stride as he gets a long gain or TD.

I played peewee football 1 season in 8th grade (and while in best shape of my life, I was far from good).  I remember exactly two things when it comes to tackling.  First is to wrap arms and drive thru the ball carrier.  That involves keeping feet on ground and keeping legs moving because the ball carrier is expected to do the same.  Secondly, when you can, pay attention to which shoulder you lead with or which side of the carrier you place your head as the tackler.  The 2nd piece makes a huge difference between a 3 yard gain and a stop for a loss...and is also completely lost on NFL defenders.

    We need a quarterback.

Don't fully disagree there...just think we have gone down the QB with shit in front of him path before and it didn't work.  Would prioritize the lines.

I honestly haven't looked at the college players coming out in 2024...so.if there is a can't miss QB...I can't say don't get him...but he damn well better not come from Duke and he better be able to put team on his shoulders rather than the other way around...cause without a fully functional line...he will have to

  4. I don't disagree with that approach at all.  It is clear the lines are the largest problem (and have been) and need fixing.

Need a RT and 2 guards for starters.  I think we have to try Neal at one of the guard spots next year.  So we need two starters for sure after moving Neal.  The third offensive line addition needs to be an inside guy to spell Neal should that experiment fail...so 2 starters and a backup.

I think we have some DT talent coming up behind Williams.  I wouldn't resign him at all and focus more on a DE or two.  Not a LB posing as a DE.  We will meed another CB and S too cause AJ and McKinney should likely be gone.

    So all told...

    Starting RT

    Starting G

    Backup G

    Starting DE x2

    Starting S

    Slot CB

Do all possible to hit on those

I just didn't expect such a 180 in terms of field product.

Guess that's what happens when you are against contenders instead of scrubs like last year.

I certainly expected more this year too.  We are the scrubs...that is a bitter pill.

    He's a 2nd round pick, so doesn't get a year 5 option.

But yeah, he's not a guy we can rely on. Needs to be replaced.

Agreed.  We really need a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 LB who can play the run as well as the pass and shed a block.

Ojulari hasn't been healthy to really make much of a determination and Thibs is more a pass rush specialist at this point.

Every day that goes by and Daboll fails to address Bobby Johnson and why he isn't fired is another day I think he should be fired lol

Yeah...this is where we just don't know if it's teaching or execution.  Johnson could be telling Neal or the rest of the line exactly what needs done and the players are just incompetent...or maybe Johnson is putting them in poor positions with whatever scheme.

We know the product on the field sucks.  We can point to who isn't getting it done...but assigning fault is kinda tough until you see a guy fail at multiple positions or with multiple coaches.

So yeah, maybe a change at OLine coach is warranted just to see if it lights that fire...but that's a slippery slope cause once you start firing coaches, that ball can run uphill pretty quick

All that said, there are clear plays where the player effs up that can't fall on coaching (Neal's play)

  8. For the record, I like Schoen and Daboll and want both of them to see this through.  If that means working though the Jones era, then I am here for it.

That said, we are the worst of 32 rosters right now.

    I like McKinny.

I don't hate him (especially on a talentless team like ours), but think he is gonna get overpaid this offseason and hopefully not by us.

I think he is a thumper type.  Good in spots, but looking at all a safety does, he's average overall.  He is not a ballhawk and he is not an overly enthusiastic tackler...opting to throw a shoulder at someone instead of taking them to the ground.  Maybe slightly above average in coverage of TEs.

It's not just the Giants who missed on scouting Neal...      Can't forget he is still only 23, the book is not all written on him yet, but it feels like we are getting to the part of the story with he needs to get shit figured out.

I've seen what I've needed to see at RT to wrap up that chapter at least.

Actually, I think you're right. I now recall, Caroline with a journeyman Andy Dalton put up 27 pts versus the Seahawks, while we couldn't manage 3.

Their offense at least has 4 TD's the last two games, which is 4 more than ours, lol.

It's really sad...even when we are not good, you can find a win here or there looking at the schedule.  Or at least a handful of winnable games even if you don't win them.  Games where there is a legitimate chance to play well and win.

This year, there is a single game...the Raiders...where it could happen.  I see no shot in any other.

  12. So it's obvious we are on the way to a dismal year.  Should likely be 0-5...will almost certainly be 1-5 next week.

Cap situation aside...who on this team is truly a undebatable starter worth keeping for the next 3 years from a talent/reliability perspective?

I would offer Banks, Hawkins, Okereke, Thibs, Lawrence on defense.

Thomas, JMS, Hyatt, Bellinger on offense.

    Gillan, Gano on ST.

  13. Anyone know the cap situation if we reach an injury settlement with Jones?

I don't wish injury on anyone, especially our own, but if the Giants can get away from Williams, Barkley, and Jones in the next year or two...

  14. He should block inside out...which he did here...but not when the inside guy is already blocked.  He should be a guard...but if asked to pull, I could easily see him going the wrong way.

Can't cut everyone, and I do think for no other reason than draft position, Neal gets a shot at G...but they should do that now in a lost season to test him out.  If he can't play better...pull the plug this offseason.
