It's difficult to tell what's going on with Thibodeau.  Last year he didn't have the numbers, but he passed the eye test.

This year on his pass rush reps it looks like he's not even trying... like his plan is, "get tied up with the tackle and hold your ground." His pass rush win% on the season is 2.3%.

Like... are the coaches asking him to hold tight and watch for the QB scramble or does he just suck?

Well...his pass rush ain't for shit so far and he sets the edge like a bitch...so there's that.

He can get to the football 5 yards downfield really well though.

Grey looked horrible in preseason.  Just throwing that out there.

    Also, he's slow.

Wouldn't say horrible...would say about right given draft.  If he can give 3 or 4 yards consistently, it'll be enough.  That's not too much to ask, no?

Though it's moot against the 49ers.

  3. Oh, I think drafting Grey was a way of hedging that bet.  In the good news camp, we will be able to evaluate Grey in-season.

Either way, I can't see them bringing Barkley back long term.  There is a small chance they tag him again, but I tend to doubt that.

Barkley is worth double digits...but low double digits...I am good with 10-12 per with injury outs...but nothing longer than 2 or 3 years.

  4. He was cleared of the high ankle sprain.  If he is off of it and only does light stretching on it to maintain some level of range of motion and avoid the stiffness 3 weeks from now, 3 weeks sounds about right.

I have sprained my ankles many times, to the point of crutches and various types of support, and I was always done with that stuff after 3 weeks...but the soreness and stiffness and regaining flexibility was always the worst part.

Figure with the million dollar care these guys get and his importance to the team, his recovery will surpass anything most of us have access to.

Yeah that's what I'm getting at.

Prior to 15 years ago you "needed" that big 6ft 5 230 pound WR#1 who could out catch and body DBs, ala TO/Calvin Johnson, etc.

Now you have the best WRs in the NFL who are much smaller in terms of body mass just running all over the place.

Doesn't hurt that you can't touch a WR without a PI penalty either.

  6. I think that's generally true...not as bad as it seemed for is and not as good as it seemed for Dallas.

That said, I am not gonna sugar coat the line play on both sides of the ball as being anything more than absolutely pathetic.  And now, the pathetic players that started are injured in some cases, prompting a new, presumably more pathetic group to start.

I am not saying all hope is lost, but we have all taken a big step away from the sunshine and rainbows end of the optimism scale...and for good reason

Maybe, and I by no means say this is true, but maybe the O line was just a little miffed at the whole off season drama with Jones and Barkley. Maybe they feel that without the O line, Jones and Barkley aren't worth what they claim to be worth and this is just a way of saying fuck you. Because you have to believe if that line was that bad, the coaching staff never would have started them.

Unless the line behind them is worse...because it is.

And if that is the case, every one of tuem ought to be thrown off the team..cap be damned

Both Thibs and Ojulari are better suited as stand up rush LB's in a traditional 3-4 alignment, with 3 down lineman (currently, the Giants run 2 DTs and 1 DE), with one Rush linebacker...so it's basically a 4-3 despite Wink calling it a 3-4 or a hybrid 3-4.

Not sure why we got away from that. Even Leonard Williams played better in that role. We have depth at DT to put three down lineman in a 3-4 alignment. Heck, put Nunes-Roches, A-Shawn Robinson, and/or Jordon Riley in the mix there.

Of course, the problem doing so is outside Okerke, everyone other LB on this team is a practice squad LB.

Then go back to a traditional 4-3 with Thibs, Ojulari, and Okereke at LB.  Let Robinson, Riley, Lawrence, Williams,  Nunes-Roches man the on-the-line spots.

At least experiment with the lineup here in week 2 cause week 1 proved to be a big ol pile of bullshit

I actually have one major issue from Week 1 - on that first drive when Jones got hit late by the Cowbitch and it was a foul etc - NOT ONE  - NOT ONE GIANTS player got in the face of the Cowboys! Not one!! What the fuck was that??? You were driving down and not even losing! Someone should have atleast shoved or gotten into the face of a Dallas player - where was that fire? Where was that emotion? Instead one guy (I think Schmitz) just goes, picks up Jones who had just been laid out illegally and they come back. I wanted more fire from this team on that play - let alone against a division rival. That got me a little disappointed

    Not a bad observation.

Every single player top to bottom was made a flat out bitch in week 1.  Cowboys did what they wanted and every single player just took it...repeatedly.  The fact the Cowboys were resting players in the 2nd quarter to stay fresh cause from minute 2 of the game, they just knew it was over.

After days of thinking about it...I can't remember watching a game where one side was as dominant as this one.  Sure, there have been bigger score differentials, but just the whole lack of fight, lack of fire, defeatist attitude that every player exhibited was the most shocking.

  10. Yeah...everyone was stoked about Neal and Thibs...everyone.  Both were gonna go top 10 and we needed both pass rush and offensive line.

Nobody can blame anyone for drafting them.

That said, both have been underwhelming at best.  Neither can set an edge with their size/toughness and neither wins with speed/athleticism.

I would try Thibs at off the line LB.  See if he has a nose for the ball at least.  And I would move Neal to G where he can just plug up the works with his size.  If those moves don't increase production...they can both be deemed busts

There will be some tough practices just off Rt 3 starting today!

One would hope...but guys gonna be a bit sore after getting their asses kicked on Sunday night...I could see coaches laying off too.

More interested to see if Thomas practices at all this week.

  12. With two games remaining against the Eagles...another Dallas...and the 49ers...given last night, that's an easy 4 more losses.

And Thomas is getting an MRI on his hamstring...if he is out, I just don't know.  Jones literally had less than 2 seconds to throw last night...you cannot win that way.
