  1. you guys need to relax. As far as the starting lineup, Cox will be in and out. Repeatedly.
  2. The definition of "bad signs" in this article is hysterical. How many people are locked up for committing these "bad signs?"
  3. So you don't see guys that are hobbled on the field all season, every season as injury-prone? I think Tuck just teared a little bit... And I'm not saying Nicks is in Tuck's category--but playing injured isn't really all that great, either. It will catch up with him eventually.
  4. Jim, I see Tree's point--from a journalism standpoint. But you also know I'm cool with it. It really didn't matter that much to me, since this is an open public forum. I might have been upset if it was from the General Discussion section, though. The restrictions are different, and post differently there. Just for the record, in my text book publishing days, fair usage is 35 words or less. Anything beyo,nd that, a publisher had to seek permission, even with published works. Hell, even if the author is pulling from a different book that he/she wrote; one that the same company published. Citation is a different matter. On a blog, it's a no-brainer. On a message board forum? I'm not sure where that falls. It would have been nice for Nem to get some extra clicks in, but since there's no ads on here, and he's not doing it for profit-making purposes; I don't think Nem is going to have a stroke.
  5. The poor guy was kind of cursed: He was a decent runner, but his blocking was so good, he hardly ever got the ball. Between the very good running line, Bavaro and Carthon's blocking abilities, and JoMo, it's little wonder that Erhardt's offense had such a run-first emphasis.
  6. Wellllll....he does get injured a lot. But the rest, I agree with. It's easy to slag him after a bad season due to injury, and then try to not be critical of any player in an 0-6 season. But the fact of the matter is that regardless of Randle's play, we're going to miss him. He's completely let me forget about Plaxico, and if he doesn't stay on, we'll be robbed of at least one of the guys who would have beat Toomer's career record.
  7. Gilbride seemed to know what to do with Ward and Jacobs... Anyway, Carthon will always be the best blocking back I'll ever see. Blocked for jomo in his best years; blocked for Walker when he got 2,000 yards. Nobody did it better.
  8. I'd pull JPP and hope his back heals. Give Moore some time...but let Tuck hang out there. What do you expect to see Kiwi do that you haven't seen in 7 years? And to be cold about it, I'd rather Tuck stay in and risk getting hurt, since there's no way we're re-signing him after this season.
  9. Let the QBs climb--the higher they go, the more valuable our pick will be, assuming we maintain this blistering pace. I'd be delighted to get a 1st and second and next year's first...
  10. Personally, I'm intriqued by Ken Whisenhunt. An offensive mind, that got a decrepit Curt Warner and mediocre Cardinal team to the brink of a Lombardi. But he'd have to pick an outstanding DC, because that entire side really needs to be blown up and rebuilt. I think he'd be good for Manning, and good for the offense, which would probably be the easiest side to fix and get us back into the mix. For all we know, we might have decent guards already, if they get experience, and some consistency in position--we desperately need a center that's on the field, though. Right now, the defense is held together by duct tape and nostalgia, and went into the season that way. When a guy comes in a week ago and immediately becomes your best LB (from everything I've seen/read, I was working Thurs. night), that's a sign. When a guy with a previously blown achilles and recovering from microfracture surgery comes in a week ago and immediately becomes your best LB--well, that's a slap to the back of your collective heads. If Fewell gets a new contract after this season, I will flip out. After 3 years, I think it's safe to say that the SB run was the exception to the rule. The defense is playing better than last year, but considering last year they were historically bad, what the hell does that mean? He is not the guy for a rebuild. Gilbride can go, too. You'll never convince me that he was as bad as some of you guys seem to think, and we've seen some of the best offensive production ever seen in Giant's blue: but he isn't adjusting to realities that are obviously happening on the field, and that's damning. I'm not talking about in-game play calling--that's always going to be hit-or-miss with any coordinator: but he's shown he's game-planning for ghosts. If he'd shown even an ounce of flexibility 3 or so games ago when it was obvious things weren't working as planned, I'd be more forgiving--but your QB has already thrown double-digit INTs, you still don't have a consistent running game, your offensive weapons are still not on the same page; and you're still running the same plays? Bye-bye. You could argue that Whisenhunt got to the SB in the weakest division in the league (at that point). Frankly, guess where this division is at right now? And he did it with basically a broken down QB and 1 superstar WR. We're actually in a bit better position.
  11. Depending on how severe, his career might be over. You might just have to plunk that up there on the original post. And that isn't necessarily a football-related injury. Narrowing of the space for the spinal cord isn't something you really want to fuck around with.
  12. A center. Someone that can command the line and stay on the field for the next 5 or more years.
  13. I agree on a whole with this article, but I think he could have left the 2007 class out of it, because we definitely got our money's worth. I mean that draft was 6 years ago--how many players on ANY team are left from that draft, and even the healthy players have mostly moved on from the teams that originally drafted them. But if you look at these lists and realize how many of these players have not only been injured, but permanently disabled, it's not that shocking we look like we do now, or why we've signed who we have in free agency.
  14. We've relied on Manning to carry this team for 3 years now. He did it once when he had merely a substandard line. This year, whiile it's true the defense has upgraded all the way from truly fucking awful to well below average, his line is a hodgepodge of youth with little/no experience and battle-maimed vets; with the only consistency being the tackles, who've managed to stay in place all 5 games. Oh, did I forget about our run game? So have our opponents, since it is so quiet. Well, that's not entirely true--it does make some big plays by fumbling or batting screens into defender's loving arms. And just in case that wasn't enough, the special teams have reverted from it's halcyon days last year of decent play back to clearly sucking. Is he forcing throws--rushing passes--making questionable decisions? Sure. I don't like it, it's frustrating as hell--but I don't think I can blame him for it. This team has exactly: 1 high-caliber QB, a solid receiving core, half a defensive line, and one of the best IR'd, unable to play secondaries in the league.
  15. I think it's part that, part that the old line really fell apart quickly. Really, it was pretty much done within 2 years--O'Hara and Seubert done in a single year, then MacKenzie limping along for that last one. Diehl and Snee staggering on, but really not the same, either. You would have thought at least one of them would have lasted until their mid-30's. But they all seemed to decline at once, and no amount of planning could really compensate for that.
  16. That's bullshit. The 2006 team was the biggest collection of swaggering assholes this team ever assembled, and only got into the playoffs (at 8-8, mind you) on the wings of Barber's indomitable ego. Plenty of "swagger," and no backing things up. They're still my least favorite Giants team. If these guys were playing this bad AND talking shit, this season would be even worse. If anything, these "vets" need to be knocked down a couple of pegs, since they've coasted through the last few seasons thinking they could just turn it on at the end and make the playoffs.
  17. We don't have a running game, and we have a QB that can't throw short effectively. Not that he's throwing long effectively lately... That's what kind of sucked about today--they did just enough to take the lead, got all fired up, there was a brief moment of hope; and then they all decided to pack it in. The defense decided that it was time to give up points, and Eli decided to go all homeland security and intentionally ground everything.
  18. In a way this does us a favor--no more false hope, just sit back and watch the funny men on the TV screen. No more fruitless tension. I love the Giants, I've been rooting for them since '73-'74, and that won't stop. I'll keep watching, but I'm not going to cry over them, either.
  19. You guys were expecting the Giants to save their season against the Eagles? When has that ever happened, even when this team was good?
  20. A good football team is upredictable: a GREAT football team is predictable, but you still can't stop them.
  21. On the other hand, "Pogo the Clown" wasn't exactly a serial killer name.
  22. Because typically when a guy is leading the league in INTS, you don't talk about lengthening his contract. Besides, he's under contract for the next few years, so it's not like I suggested anything about cutting him.
  23. I don't know about changing to a running team--Brady is much older than Manning, and gets along just fine without one. Same with big bro'. I'd rather have a very strong, consistent line. Get Manning to put some touch on his short passes (it's really shocking how poor he is at short range--I don't know if it's a simple lack of ability there, or that the offense hasn't allowed him to develop that aspect), and get a Tony Galbreath type running back for 3rd down. IMO the Jacobs experience proved that you don't need a power back, you need interior linemen that can drive block. Wilson isn't bad, albeit flawed, and I liked what little I saw of Cox in preseason. He's raw, but has drive. Scott has only shown me that I was wrong the past couple of years when I wondered why he wasn't on the field. Besides, was that switch with Elway because he couldn't do it anymore, or because he had a great running back and no receivers to speak of? As for the 3-4--NOW do you see that I wasn't really disagreeing with you this offseason about needing lbs? :LMAO:Of course, the current LB coach will need to be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Preferably, literally.
  24. Snee has a choice of retiring or getting cut. Both coordinators are gone--Gilbride fired, Fewell does not get renewed. Special teams coach as well. Since Coughlin was flat-out told to fire Hufnagel and Lewis, this isn't as big a deal as you might think. But if it is, it's gold watch time. The only coaches I'd consider keeping are Pope, Flaherty, and Guinta. Defensive coordinator is a 3-4 guy. Yeah, I know, we don't have any linebackers. But the entire point of a 4-3 is defensive end, and we have precious little going on there right now. JPP had a great year in 2011, but do you want to base your D on a guy with a bad back, and Kiwi on the other side with a previously injured neck? The strength right now is at DT, and we just drafted Hankins, who would be big enough for a nose tackle. Moore is young, he's raw, and he's about to be an outside linebacker. Cooper Taylor better spend some time in the weight room. If JPP can't play DE on a 3-4, then trade him. It's time to break some eggs. Offensive guy is a QB guy. Someone who can show Manning how to throw a short ball as well as a bomb. Manning is a great QB, but he has no touch for short passes. Diehl is gone. Tuck is gone. Baas I bite the bullet on and cut. Webster, gone. Kiwi goes. If Boothe goes, I'll try to keep awake while waving goodbye. Possibly Rolle, depending on how Stevie Brown comes back, and Will Hill plays. McBride seems ok. Suddenly, there's a healthy chunk of cap space with Snee gone as well. Then I'd extend Manning. Not a particularly popular move right now, but the guy is going to wind up in the hall, he's a leader in his own way, and he's clutch. Extending him cuts his current cap number, and keeps him here until we're ready to part ways, or he retires. FA--Get a center. He doesn't have to be an incredible all-pro, he just has to have a history of being injury-free and smart. What this OLine has been completely lacking since 2010 is any kind of consistency in its lineup. With Baas, it's obvious we'll never have consistency. LBs, and plenty of them. At least one good one on the inside, same on the outside. We'll have the money--and don't go for the fucking Dan Conners of the world. A Grey Ruegamer type interior lineman. A Locklear type tackle. A fullback. Hynoski, who I liked, is breaking down fast. Draft--Guards. Linebackers. If Brewer and Mosely can't show anything, cut one of them, and bring Hermann up from the practice squad. If he doesn't show anything, then draft A LOT of guards. If you're not drafting linemen, then draft linebackers. Herzlich is a fucking tragedy. Williams is meh, but fragile, so what's the point? There is no one on the current squad that I would want to see on this team in 2 years. A late-round running back. I'm OK with Wilson and Cox--the other two are not reliable enough. A decent line would cover up their deficiencies to a degree. And for the love of god, no more drafting guys "who would have gone higher if he wasn't injured." He was injured, and you're drafting damaged goods.
