  1. pads scored 11 runs in the first inning and by the end of the 2nd they had a 12-0 lead. the best bullpen in baseball then proceeded to almost blow a 12 run lead to the astros and at one point had a 15-11 lead with runners on the corners and 1 out. the worst part was that mlb extra innings (for some reason) didn't carry the game, so i had to go through that agony on yahoo.com and chris young was supposed to start that game but went on the DL instead.
  2. kay, like most NY sports media members, knows nothing about teams or players outside of ny
  3. there are writers who didn't vote for them (or abstained) because guys like ted williams weren't unanimous so they think no one else should be. it's the same stupid thinking that cost nash the mvp this season--no one wanting him joining guys like jordan (and i forgot who else) as the only guys who won 3 straight mvps
  4. yeah he should've been unanimous
  5. what do you mean? gwynn is why im a pads fan, he was my favorite player when i was a little kid--i was even a fugazi switch hitter in little league/high school cuz i wanted to emulate his swing. if you mean in terms of this board, i was excited when he was voted in a while ago. that's bigger to me than the actual ceremony
  6. IMO strahan just wants to get paid or cut a few weeks off training camp. sitting out a year will lower his value and he has two years left on his deal anyway. the truth is strahan has no leverage at all and will have to come back with his tail between his legs. i dont think the giants have any interest in signing simeon rice, i think this is being done to piss strahan off and get him back to camp. my respect for jerry reese just went up 10 fold and this is coming from a huge strahan fan
  7. germano's been pretty crappy lately, and bonds LOVES homering against the pads--if i were objective i think i'd put my money on him
  8. yeah that's true too, i was referring to the pads bullpen though
  9. i can tell you who it WON'T be
  10. haha, this is the ONE guy strahan will be pissed to see take his place
  11. welcome back fbomb, the traffic here is less than ideal but the quality of discussion is a lot better--even our trolls are better
  12. braun strikes again i love that guy. if pence was still healthy i'd have the NL all-rookie team with him braun and gallardo
  13. when i heard we trade linebrink to the brewers i was hoping we were getting back gwynn i dont see where he fits in if they like hart so much. maybe they'll trade hall or something
  14. if you can't do well in the pads bullpen, you can't do well in any bullpen. but i agree, we needed some prospects. but if im the brewers i never trade a top 100 prospect and two lefties for a guy who at best will be pitching the 7th inning
  15. im thrilled. at first i wasn't when all we got was pitching prospects, cuz i wanted to trade linebrink for someone who could help us now, but it looks like thatcher will be the main lefty out of the pen and i was impressed with what i saw last night
  16. they already have turnbow and cordero, so at best linebrink will be their 7th inning guy. they gave up thatcher, who made his major league debut last night and pitched a perfect inning. he's a lefty reliever who gets righties and lefties out. he had a 2.05 era this season in double A. he can easily turn out to be better than linebrink had been this season--which automatically makes this a win for the pads even before we consider the other two pitching prospects. they also gave up inman who came into this season as one of baseball america's top 100 prospects. he was their best prospect now that braun and gallardo are in the majors. last year he was 10-2 with a 1.71 era and like 30 more k's than innings pitched. the year before that he was 10-0 with a 2.00 era. he's only 20 years old and this other dude garrison--who i dont know anything about--he's a lefty starter and also 20 years old. all this for a 7th inning guy who's done?
  17. i agree with you, i think ali's the best ever. i'd put marciano 2nd though
  18. if im a yankee fan this is the most fun season i've had in years. for a while now i've seen a lot of yankee fans not care about the regular season at all and just focus on the postseason from april on. pennant races are a real thrill
  19. why couldn't this have happened LAST week :brooding:
  20. he's still young though, howard had a ton of holes in his swing too
  21. well it's a done deal now that pence is on the DL for six weeks. braun's 3-4 1 hr, 2 runs, 2 rbi 1 steal today
  22. nice, i lost chris young and gorzelanny to injuries in consecutive days
  23. MAYBE he can be the third best in the division
