  1. im no eternal optimist by any means. but there are 100 games left in the season and this is a team that won 89 games last season and is getting peavy back thursday. i'm not surprised in the least that the pads swept the mets OR that they won a bunch of close late inning ball games--they made their bread doing that for the past 3 years and there's no reason to believe that 8 bad weeks changes anything. guess the phillies were shitty too with a 7.5 game deficit and 17 to play if the pads are shitty with a 6.5 game deficit and 100 to play. just keep beating up on owings, you're off to a good start so far
  2. i know what you're saying, but things can turn around quick--the didn't look like a superbowl contender till the last game of the season last yera and even then it was doubtful we'd get there.
  3. the language in that article i found most pertinent was "writing obituaries with 100 games left in the season can be foolish"
  4. They're not 10 games under .500. i hope repeatedly calling my team shitty is alleviating any pain the mets have caused you this year. we'll see how shitty they are in four months--i refuse to panic 9 weeks into the season. they are 6.5 games out of first place, met fans of all fans should not be discounting how small of a lead that really is. now please do me a favor and beat the diamondbacks
  5. what about below average(under .500) teams? they get swept by the pads right? they're only 3.5 games ahead of the pads--this isn't like pads sweeping the red sox or cubs
  6. my fav strahan moment was when he was miked up for monday night football about 5 or 6 years ago and kept abusing runyan and everytime he sacked mcnabb he'd act sorry for him and tell him to tell runyan to block better
  7. wagner's had a good career, and is probably the 3rd or 4th best closer over the past 12 years or so, but the guy hasn't won anything and seems to fancy himself some all-time great vet who has the clout to say the things he says. i honestly don't agree with him. if rivera and hoffman are quiet professionals who don't conduct themselves that way, then wagner should follow suit. it'd be like some 10 year vet punter shooting his mouth off
  8. the braves aren't paying all of hampton's contract though, florida is paying 6+ mil of it per year
  9. the two most pertinent points that x brought up are the fact that he makes as much as he does and the fact that he shoots his mouth off. rivera never talks, so as far as im concerned NO closer should be talking like billy does. he doesn't have the clout to be putting up 'know your role, rook' signs on people's lockers, and calling out his teammates in the media. and he simply makes way too much money for a guy who doesn't get big saves.
  10. talk about an anti-clamatic win. we'll take them anyway we can though this time last year this was an NLCS preview--pretty sad how much things have chnaged
  11. totally killed me fantasy-wise
  12. the only reason to go to jersey other than to see a giant game is atlantic city
  13. like others have said, it's not the foxboro patriots and the angels don't play in LA either
  14. yeah im 26 and i've put on quite a bit of muscle lately, naturally of course
  15. you know how many people on the streets of ny aren't die hard sports fans?
  16. i thought we had an understanding w/ little step-bro, but if they really think it's their team i say we take it back
  17. yeah from a fan's perspective it comes down to the fact that i'd love to see more than 16 games
  18. sidney's always had talent. the only thing im surprised at is that he's kept it together this long, but the talent's always been there and before he got lazy and let things fall apart he put together some good seasons
  19. not a yankee fan. i honestly don't care about the showboating stuff at all in any sport. i thought to's sharpie thing was hilarious. i thought randy moss mooning green bay was hilarious. jose valverde was 10x worse than joba last season whenever he got a save (roids will do that to you) and it didn't bother me either--i'd hate him no matter what
  20. it's may 22nd, the peavy and young are on the DL and the pads have the worst record in baseball. when does football start
  21. if you're a gambler and you want to bet on the giants this isn't exactly bad news. besides, the giants always do better when they get no respect
  22. yeah i hear ya, im not saying the reds won or anything, but personally i'll always take the starting pitcher all things being equal. these days pitching is at such a premium that scrubs are getting 10+ mil a year
  23. it doesn't bother me at all. boo hoo the guy pumped his fist when he struck me out. spend more time in the batting cage and less time crying. as for goose, he has a really big mouth. im sick of hearing from him and i thought it would stop now that his crying and foot stomping got him into the hall
  24. i'll take a pitcher leading the majors in era and k's over a run producer anyday--especially at that park.
