Mets Prospect Similar to DW

We have a 1st baseman down in St Lucie(A+) who is being said to be extremely similar to David Wright, when he was in A, A+, etc

this kid turned 20 on June 30th, so he is BARELY 20 now..but here is what his stats are compared to Wrights, and what I think this kid can become..

First, here is NYFS' scouting report on Carp:

Hitting

Uses an open stance at the plate. Has a good disciplined approach at the plate for a young hitter. Has excellent line drive/gap power right now. May become a consistent .300 hitter as he develops because of his patience and ability. Scouts compare him to Darin Erstad or Mark Grace at this point in his career, but looks to be much better than those two later on.

Running

Is an intelligent player so that helps him on the base paths in making decisions. Does not have good speed however. If he makes a play on the base paths its probably going to be because he made a smart decision.

Defense

Steady defensively right now. He won't amaze you defensively but he won't hurt his team defensively either. Shouldn't ever need to be moved from firstbase because of defensive issues.

Sounds a LOT like Wright at a younger age to me...

Now, here are the numbers

Wright @ age 19 in Hagerstown: .266/.367/.401 with a .768 OPS, 132 for 496, 30 2b, 11 HR, 93 RBI, 21/26 SBs, 76 BBs, 114 Ks

Mike Carp @ age 18/19 in Hagerstown: .249/.358/.476, .834 OPS, 78 for 313, 12 2b, 1 3b, 19 HR, 63 RBI, 2/4 SBs, 35 BBs, 96 Ks

David Wright @ 20 in FSL: .270/.369/.459, .828 OPS, 126 for 466, 39 2b, 2 3b, 15 HR, 75 RBI, 19/24 SBs, 72 BBs, 98 Ks

Mike Carp @ 19/20 in FSL: .293/.394/.429, .814 OPS, 108 for 365, 23 2b, 1 3b, 10 HR, 63 RBI, 2 SBs, 42 BBs, 75 Ks

He's the reason St. Lucie is one of the best teams here in Florida... them and the Daytona Cubs... good work blue-jeans

Right now I would be happy with a Lastings Milledge plus another minor leaguer for Dontrelle Willis but Mike Pelfrey can not be included!

I agree, but I wouldn't care if either one was part of a deal, just not both of them.

Thats incredibly stupid.

Stupid for the Marlins. That would actually be a good deal for the Mets. Willis is a 24 year old ace with playoff experience. Pelfrey is 22 and no one really knows yet how good he will be.

Yeah but with Pedro and Tommy getting up there in age I think it would be better to hold on to young pitchers!

Scott Kazmir, need I say more!

I agree, but Willis is only 24. I would prefer to see Milledge go in a deal for Willis though, because as they say, you can never have enough pitching.

Besides, I think Milledge is going to be nothing but a headache.
