Seph (once again) fixes the Giants, 2024 Edition, Part One.

Recommended Posts

Whelp, first all I’d like to apologize.  It’s obvious Joe Schoen needs all the help he can get this offseason based on his last two, and I’ve only given him a few short days to make decisions on what to do as far as the roster goes.  Unfortunately, I’ve been deep in the throes of public duty since October with no immediate end in sight, so my usual run of offseason bullshittery will be a bit… sparse.

Still though, I’m always here to help, and I’m willing to take it to the bank that when Schoen sees my plans for building the Giants for success, he’ll ignore them like he always does so he can snag the Joe Isuzus and Dane Beltons of the league.  And, as usual, I’ll be there in a few years to bust balls about how he should have listened to me.

Ok, let’s make this quick.  First of all, the cuts to free up space:  the Giants currently have 41 million to spend this year.  There’s some guys that bring literally nothing to the table that we can cut to make a little extra room.  For starters, I’m getting rid of these guys:

WH42b2m0Q3jWhOyPEPOPEqMhnFJcmZ4CCIEKUg3d_Gozt3vYk1SVHSB6uMhMi8lzeZQ0hjrUFpDIQ9Ilx0GehHhrM_PITC8-CbvwBFcnAYAwdbxsPSAXkShWnnhNMq41IlM46tWOYnBQeSDOMCO5K3s

That brings our total to 45.7 million to spend. If anyone has a reason to keep any of these guys, I’m all ears.

Next, we need to get to the guys on the team that are free agents that we actually want to keep.  I’m making offers to these guys:

A’Shawn Robinson - 2 years, 12 million, 6 million this season.  He’s adequate enough, though I’d like us to get better at this position.  It was great to get a 2nd for Williams but nobody can deny he was a good player;  Robinson is going to give you better play than DJ Fucking Davidson, another Schoen stink of a pick.

Adoree Jackson - 2 years, 22 million, 9 million this season.  Again… he’s fine, and that’s the market for cornerbacks who are fine.  Behind Banks we literally have nobody (don’t give me that Cordale Flott shit, he’s horrible) and there are other holes to fill on the team.

Literally that’s it.  Everyone else can walk.

Now to get to the guys I’d sign in free agency; right now, we have 28 million dollars to spend.  Here’s where I’d spend it:

G Robert Hunt - 4 years, 48 million, 12 million this season.  This line remains fucking pathetic and embarrasing(way to not listen to me, Joe Schoen) and no offense or QB will EVER BE SUCCESSFUL behind it. Hunt is young (just 27), was a top-six guard last year, and graded out at over 70 in both run and pass blocking.  There is no way you can go into next season expecting Joe Isuzu and fucking Marcus McKethan to be your starters.  We need a dog there and Hunt is that dog.

G Greg Van Roten, 1 year, 2 million dollars - see a theme here?  This line fucking sucks.  Van Roten isn’t some great player, but he’s cheap and played very well under Bricillo last year for the Raiders.  He’s another guy that can come in when Joe Isuzu plays matador and not embarrass you.  He’s worth 2 million, easily.

S Jordan Poyer, 1 year, 7 million.  Poyer didn’t play that well last year, but he can be serviceable until we can find a better, cheaper long-term solution at safety.  He actually started out very strong and faded a bit towards the end;  maybe he was injured.

RB Devin Singletary - two years, 10 million, 5 million this season.  Singletary surprised me in Houston this year, where I suspect he’ll remain.  Never going to set your world on fire but he’s steady, and I’d take him for this price.

QB Josh Dobbs - 1 year, 2 million.  I don't think he's anything other than what he is, but if Jones can't go by the start of the season I'd much rather see Dobbs behind center than Tommy Fucking DeVito.   I'd love a Gardner Minshew here instead, but we have so many holes and just don't have the money for a top-notch backup.

RB D’onta Foreman -  one year, 2.5 million. Has played pretty well when given the chance and has graded out better than average over the past two years.

That’s it, that’s what I’d do.  I’ve had about ninety minutes this offseason to put this together, but I bet it’s better than what Joe Shoen does.  Worst-case scenario you have a solid interior line and a capable backup QB.  Imagine if I managed this team… man, we’d be in the playoffs every year.

Anyways, next week I'll post my mock draft.  You know you guys want it.

Don't hate any of this.  I do think Flott has improved, though he's no starter.  Not a bad backup for a game or two or as a 3rd CB.  Looking to see if Hawkins steps forward after not backing up the camp hype last year.

Ultimately though, I agree that free agency should have two pronged focus...offensive line and backup QB.  If they can hit on just those two areas, it creates a ton of flexibility on draft day

Yeah once you said bring back Adoree at 9 million a year you lost me. He was the weakest corner on the team last year. Time to move on.

And Josh Dobbs is worth more than 2 million a year now. Minshew is a better option but he's too expensive and he probably hopes he can go somewhere to compete.

I don't love Adoree either but what else are we going to do for that price at that position? Dude made so many business decisions during the second half of the season... but for 9 mil you're probably either looking at washed-up Stephon Gilmore or rolling with an unproven high draft pick otherwise.

Josh Dobbs is estimated at 2 mil per season. Dude made 1.5 this year and I feel like he's still under valued.

I don't see him getting $9 million from anyone else so not sure what we'd be offering him that. There are cornerbacks being released and will be released that are better than him.

Josh Dobbs deserves at least top level backup qb pay. He was traded for twice last season. I think he's worth more than $2 million. If we could do it for that price I'd be okay with it.

Well not for nothing, but Joe Schoen is cheating.

Brian Burns - 30 mil this season.

Devin Singltary - 6.5 mil this season.

Jon Runyan - 6.5 mil this season

Jermaine Eluemenor - 7.5 mil this season

In addition to the three little signings we've made, that puts us over 50 million.

Dude's cheating to try and make me look bad.  Unfortunately, he's the one who will end up looking bad in two years!

Kamren Curl got two years, 13 million from the Rams.

WAY under what I thought he could get.  If I knew that was the deal he'd sign I'd have put him on my list. That's a steal.

You know what... Joe Schoen is apparently pulling money out of thin air, I'm also signing Danielle Hunter for his two year, 48 million deal.

Hunter reportedly turned down larger deals to play in his home state where he lives and the fact that the Texans are playoff contenders.

Sometimes it's not just $$$

If I was some player on the last contract of my prime I wouldn't want to look at the Giants either lol
