Sephiroth
Is that to provide clarity that the Steve Smiths of the league are the guys on the field and not their five year old sons?
BronxRik
It's kinda like putting "the real" before their name. Like "The Real Steve Smith".
Mr. P
Probably the same as putting "Jr.".
fringe
Well St. is usually understood if there's no jr or number. These guys want endorsements and they need to differentiate themselves from the others with their name. God forbid they take off their helmets! Storm
Probably the same as putting "Jr.". Well, like Seph said, I don't think anyone is going to confuse "Mohamed Sanu Sr." with five year old Mohamed Jr. on the football field...and there really isn't anyone with the same name that he's trying to compete over endorsements with. So my conclusion is that most of them are fucking idiots. If no one came before you in the league, you're Mohamed Sanu. Mohamed Jr. makes the NFL, then he's Mohamed Sanu Jr. to distinguish the two. Griffey Jr. and Griffey Sr. wore only "Griffey" on their jersey, and they were on the same damn team. Not that any father-son pair will be likely to play in the NFL at the same time. So it's not really the same as putting Jr. as Jr. is meant to distinguish you from someone who came before you. It is, however, done for attention. Mr. P
Or it's simply how they self identify. I don't think anyone is going to confuse Odell for Odell Sr. out there.
BlueInCanada
Or it's simply how they self identify. People on this forum had fun once. Now it's all serious business about names.
Treehugger
George Foreman has five sons, all named George (George Jr., George III, George IV, George V, and George VI). He also has a daughter named Georgette.
