Giants sign LB O'Brien Schofield 2-year / 8 million

The first deal the Giants' struck, just moment after free agency opened, was a two-year, $8 million deal with linebacker O'Brien Schofield.

Now it looks like that deal will never be signed.

The Giants' doctors discovered an issue with Schofield's knee after examining him on Wednesday, according to two NFL sources, and that has caused the Giants to pull their offer. According to one source, the two sides were still talking about what to do next, but the deal is definitely "on hold" as the NFL Network first reported.

It may be on hold permanently, too. The Giants are believed to still be interested in the 6-3, 242-pounder, but at a vastly reduced price. Schofield, according to a source, will look around to see if he can do any better elsewhere before deciding on what the Giants have on the table.

It wasn't immediately clear what the issue was in Schofield's knee, and his camp seemed to be surprised by the revelation, according to a source. The 26-year-old did tear his ACL at the Senior Bowl in 2010 before he came to the NFL, and he also had some knee issues with Arizona in 2012. But that seems to be the last time anyone was aware of any potential problem.

*Reese, realizing he offered too much money, calls the doctor and tells him to come up with something to save a couple million*

Demarcus Ware would be a very good pick up... especially against Dallas.
