Giants, Hakeem do a deal

Posted by Mike Florio on August 1, 2009 10:26 AM ET

The New York Giants realize they can't replace receiver Plaxico Burress with one player.

So they're trying to do it with two players -- Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden.

Both are now under contract.

Per a league source, the Giants have worked out a contract with the 29th overall pick in the 2009 draft, agreeing to terms with Nicks.

Per a league source, it's five-year, $12.5 million contract.

Nine up, nine down. And no holdouts.

The Giants finished signing their rookie class on Saturday morning when then inked wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, their first-round pick, to a five-year contract, according to someone informed of the progress of negotiations. The person, who requested anonymity because financial terms were not to be discussed, said the total value of the contract is $12.5 million.

10:49 a.m. UPDATE PFT was first on the scene on this one.

Nicks' signing means all nine of the Giants rookies will be in camp when the team reports to Albany on Sunday. It was especially important for Nicks to be signed on time because he has an opportunity to contribute immediately and will need every rep in camp to get acclimated with the offense.

No word yet on which player has been waived to make room for Nicks on the roster.

11:32 p.m. UPDATE The Giants will announce Nicks' contract later this afternoon. Nicks hasn't officially signed it yet.

What a stellar job Reese and the boys up front do. They've now had 3 great drafts and no one is holding out. Everyone will be in camp on time and everyone's a happy camper. I cant wait for this season to get started....LETS GO BIGBLUE!!!

he did

william joseph also did, after shockey.

And they're no longer in Blue... Plax held out didn't he... he's no longer in Blue... so if this trend holds up, the Giants might've just had the best back to back drafts in the history of the NFL.

This is good to see not hold outs to me = not ME ME players on the team

Side note: MIke Florio is an idiot we let 2 wr's go and picked up 2 in the draft. We did not get 2 just to fill Plaxico's position.

I agree BB...Reese is an awesome GM and signs good deals...if Nicks turns out to be as good as everyone thinks he is, this contract could go down as one of those...WOW, he got him that cheap contracts? I also think Reese is the best GM out there...of course I could biased...but his short history as GM I believe has proven it.
