Michael Boley of the New York Giants has been suspended without pay for the team’s first regular-season game of 2009 for violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy.

Boley’s suspension begins on Saturday, September 5. He is eligible to return to the Giants’ active roster on Monday, September 14 following the team’s September 13 game against the Washington Redskins.

Boley, who underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip on June 24, may participate in all preseason practices and games. The anticipated recovery time from the surgery is 8-10 weeks. The Giants report to training camp at the University at Albany on Sunday, August 2.

Boley suspended for season opener

New Giants linebacker Michael Boley was already in danger of missing the season opener. Now he’s going to miss it for sure.

Boley, who signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Giants in late February, was suspended without pay by the NFL today for one game - - the season opener - - for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. The league did not say what the violation was, but according to a source familiar with the situation, it was due to a domestic incident that occurred on May 3, 2008, when Boley was still with the Atlanta Falcons.

Boley was arrested that day and charged with one count of domestic battery for allegedly beating his wife, Chantelle. According to reports of that incident, Boley allegedly pushed her against a wall, threw her over a couch, and shoved her into a kitchen cabinet door, leaving bruises on her upper back.

According to a statement released by the NFL, Boley is eligible to participate in all preseason games and practices up until Saturday, Sept. 5, when his suspension officially begins. However, Boley underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum on his hip on June 24 and the Giants said he is expected to be sidelined for 8-10 weeks, so he isn’t likely to practice until after the Giants’ training camp ends on Aug. 25, if he’s even healthy enough to practice then.

Boley is eligible to return to the Giants on Sept. 14, one day after their opener against the Washington Redskins.

The Giants have not yet released any statement from Boley or any team officials. It’s not clear if the Giants knew a suspension was likely when they signed him in late Feburary. It’s also not clear why the NFL is suspending Boley now for an incident that occurred 14 months ago.

Steve McNair might have saved his own life if he'd stuck the 1st blow

My point is women often start these things then get the benefit of the doubt unfairy

The guy is not ALWAYS the villan

Michael Boley will miss the Giants' season opener vs. the Redskins due to a violation of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.Giants linebacker Michael Boley has been suspended without pay for the first regular-season game this fall as a result of violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy, the league announced Tuesday.

The suspension stems from Boley's spring 2008 domestic battery charge following a verbal argument with his wife, according to a source with knowledge of the violation.

Boley signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Giants when free agency opened in February and, according to someone with knowledge of Boley's free-agency process, the team knew he was going to receive a suspension when it signed him.

Boley's suspension starts on Sept. 5 and he will be eligible to return to the active roster on Sept. 14, the day after the Giants' season opener against the Redskins. He is eligible to participate in preseason practices and games but was expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks following June 24 surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip.

Boley, who spent his first four seasons with the Falcons, was expected to add speed to the Giants defense from the weak-side linebacker spot.

This guy has me nervous. I doubt he'd be 100% ready for the first game anyway but this isn't a great start.

I agree... After the signing, he had a phone interview with several members of the media, and let just say it was imbarrasing. Very akward...
