Mr. Webster
personally i think peterson has more upside then lavar......I would love to get JP and at first i thought the giants would....but it doestn seem like they are pushing for him....maybe they are waiting to see how much other teams are offering.....I"m sure he is getting lowballed so far...so i can see the giants jumping in at the last minute and singing him...but who know for sure
vermin79
The Giants are very smart how they deal with free agency. Everyone is screaming at them to sign someone, but they aren't making any dumb moves, like some teams that we know well. If you look at the really good teams in the league you'll notice that they aren't going crazy. We finally are doing it like the Patriots, we already have a great core just need a few pieces. No need to sign a LB for a huge amount of money, only if we get a decent price should we sign a peterson or arrington. If we don't land one of them then we nail a stud in the draft. Storm
uhh am i missing something? how is this proof that we arent going to get Lavar Arrington? Can we now move on to the real task at hand and build a stockpile of DT's out of the remains like we did in the secondary ????? Oh Ernie !!!!! We have nobody to play Defensive Tackle !!!!!!! Lewis is developing a new D called the 2 - 5 defense 2 DE's and 5 LBs this is how it works out: Strah and OSi Emmons Moore Pierce Blackburn Tobor It looks like we will be dumping Joseph, Robbins, Duckett and Allen and All the DT's. Keeping Tuck and in the draft going with LB's and DE's !! Totally new concept !!

Yes Accorsi's signing of Barrett Green and Carlos Emmons is legendary - he followed that up with signing another injury reserve candiate in Will Demps. Right now the intrepid Accorsi is perusing other teams IR lists for more Giant free agent signings - if they aren't hurt, they better be old like Madison and Emmons! Green got injured while he was here, and Emmons hasn't done all that bad for us. Emmons was hurt and the Eagle's released him, but he has been a good addition to this team. Green was a great pick up at the time, he was young and never injured, but hey those things happen sometimes. Will Demps is fine, and Madison may be 31 (which is not old) but he never had any major injuries. Madison will be inspired to play here and he will have a huge year. Please go root for another team, EA is one of the best GMs in the NFL.
shockjock
Honestly...this is good news to me.... Frankly, I am unimpressed with Arrington and feel we would be better off without him on our team....use the money that would go to Arrington to grab a solid DT and go after a LB in the draft.... Arrington is a dope - he always forgets the plays and gets out of position. For every great hit he gets, he is out of position for 5 plays. The reason the Redskins benched him was because so many big plays went through him, becuase he was out of position. He is also a disaster in pass coverage. The Redskin fans are laughing at everyone drooling over this Redskin bench jockey.

That'll be the only time he goes all out.

xxi-xxv
I would say that free agency on Accori's watch going back to 1998 has been adequate. From the 1000 yard year we got out of Gary Brown, to Michael Barrow and the signings of the 2000 season, to Plax and McKeenzie and Pierce, there has been more good than bad. One thing (for better or worse depending on your opinion)that EA has done well is keep our "core stars" here. When was the last time you saw a HUGE name player LEAVE the Giants? It depends how you look at it, do you want to let stars walk and re-sign more stars like the SKins have over the past 7-8 years, or build a core of your own stars? We have seen Tiki, Strahan, Toomer, Shockey, Osi, Diehl all approcah free agency and get taken care of well before it was time to let the SNyders and Jones start the bidding war and for that EA deserves credit. Our busts have been Kenny Holmes, Barret Green, Dorsey Levens and Brian Mitchell. Most other free agents have been ok and I will include Emmons in this, he has not been awful and in fact says he would have been ready to play come the playoffs. Only problem was the Giants were so undermanned they had to IR him. I think the fact he is still a Giant, conveys this idea. As for LaVar, IMO its a PLX situation all over again, come down off the double digit signing bonus and we can talk, simple as that.
Currency
I don't think Brian Mitchell was a bust. Our special teams were atrocious. The blocking was non existence. It was like Johnny Lynn making up blocking schemes. I think Brian Mitchell was well worth the veteran minimum, especially when he flipped the bird on national television. randoff
I seem to remember when Plax was being 'chased' by the Giants and EA said something like: "We currently have NO interest in signing Burress..." Sort of a 'take it or leave it' offer. Giants end up with Burress. Arrington isn't out of the equation yet IMO.

Mitchell was a step slow when we got him and our ST's made him look 2 steps slower. Thats why he ended his career at that point. We were a day late and a dollar short. njsmalls
Dolphins | Team only discussed preliminary numbers with Arrington; price is too high Sat, 18 Mar 2006 07:16:13 -0800 Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins have spoken with free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) and preliminary numbers were discussed, according to an NFLPA source. The Dolphins' priority is clearly Arrington, who visited last week. But Arrington's asking price is reported to be in the $6 million-a-year range, which is probably too rich for Miami. Let's see what happens...But, he would have to take a shitload less to be a Giant.
