  1. Youre right. Ive been hanging onto that idea for a long time too. Fact is we changed defensive coordinators and this team is still susceptible to big plays and gets blown out by good teams. We didnt even have the injuries on defense this year and brought in Rolle. Coaching always plays a role but christ if this team was that good they would have stepped up and won some of those games.
  2. The draw plays and screens need to stop or at least be less prevalent. The shotgun formation in short yardage situations I could do without too. Bottom line is the Giants for the most part have not beaten a good team in a big game 2 years running now. The coaching staff certainly deserves a lot of the blame but how about the players stepping up in a big spot and delivering? I've really believed for a long time that this team is very talented but I'm beginning to seriously question that. We have a bunch of nice, solid players but something is obviously missing. During the Super Bowl run we had a future Hall of Famer in Strahan and a matchup nightmare in Burress. I think Nicks could eventually become a top 5 kind of talent but he's still young. Tuck and Osi can't do everything and sometimes a good offensive gameplan can take them out of the game. They won 10 games while leading the league in turnovers. I don't care who you play that's a feat. Granted, thats a backhanded compliment. We will see what happens but for the moment I am going to focus on the Eagles and hope their team and city is devastated once again.
  3. Im coming to the conclusion we have a team of nice, solid players. No real stars that can take a game over. Tuck and Osi are the closest thing we have on defense. Nicks I love and think he will emerge but hes still young. Maybe thats enough to get it done when you play sound, disciplined football but it sure as hell isnt when you lead the league in turnovers.
  4. Nothing would surprise me after last week. With a win and in scenario they played their worst 60 minutes of the season. If they dont have the pride to play for themselves maybe they will play hard for their coaches job. I really dont see Green Bay losing Sunday. Rodgers looks great and if he stays hot there is no reason they cant make it to Dallas. On talent the Giants should win this game but Ive said that about this team in the past and theyve made me look like a jackass on more than one occasion.
  5. I'm pulling for the Chiefs in the AFC. They do all the right things. Taking care of the football and running the ball. That's the formula for playoff success. Early in the year when the Chiefs started fast I didn't think Cassel could play and thought he would be the guy that held them back. He made a jackass out of me and is making that trade and big contract he got look justified. Jamaal Charles is without question my favorite player outside of New York. 6.4 ypc you have got to be fucking kidding me.
  6. Eli seems like a really nice guy. Personality wise, he's a great guy to have as the face of your franchise. I'll even go as far to say that he was the right choice in that draft. Philip Rivers is beginning to look like the Dan Marino of this generation. As a matter of fact he is just that in my opinion until he wins a big game. Not to mention his temperament, which I'm sure the media here would have a field day with. Then you have Big Ben. At best, he's a moron. There was the motorcycle incident and then TWO legal issues with sex crimes. Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt the first time, which I did, the fact that he would put himself at risk for another problem makes him a schmuck. But I'm not going to sugarcoat this year for Eli. Your point about the inexperience of our receivers is absolutely valid and is most likely a major contributor to the interceptions. I also agree that they possess tremendous upside and I think Nicks coupled with a healthy Smith could eventually be the BEST receiving duo in the league. However, leading the league in turnovers will prevent you from beating good teams and almost always keep you out of the playoffs. There were times this year where I think he was just trying to make a play and do too much. But there were times where he just made downright terrible decisions. As fan, I'm optimistic that it will get better. It's been better in the past for him. For all the people here who intensely dislike the guy I just say this. Take a look at the quarterbacks this franchise has had between Phil Simms and Eli Manning. It could be a lot fucking worse.
  7. It's funny how different the perspectives are with the various sports markets. Fox never had back to back winning seasons with Carolina yet he coached nine years there. Coughlin is going for his teams 10th win of the season, and even with a win there is question about his job security. I love New York sports but it's pretty ridiculous when you really think about it. I'll tell you this. Mara and Tisch better have a great fucking answer if they decide to fire Coughlin. Don't you dare give us some piss ant like San Diego did with Norv Turner. I think we all need to be careful what we wish for.
  8. Lots of good perspectives and thoughts from everybody. Ive thought about plenty of theories and it keeps coming back to the turnovers. Leading the league in turnovers is the biggest loser stat you can have. I posited that maybe as a fan Im overrating the talent on this team but then I see that theyre going for a 10th win on Sunday and that tells me otherwise. Its nothing short of miraculous that they are even in the playoff race while turning the ball over almost 3 times a game. Whos to blame? I dont think this is Coughlins fault but as head coach he has to answer for everything that happens on this team good or bad. Thats just the nature of the beast. I hope it doesnt cost him his job but if it does it wouldnt be the first time players caused a coach to be fired.
  9. That was one hell of a post Joe. You eloquently displayed all the frustrations just about every fan of this team is having. The Giants are without a doubt the biggest jeckyll and hyde act in the NFL. On a given week they look like they can beat any team in the league and others theyre only capable of beating themselves. Hell, after the Philly game you don`t know what you`re getting minute to minute. In regards to Bradshaw and Jacobs, I wouldnt rule out trying to make an upgrade. I like them both and think they compliment each other well but if there was an opportunity to acquire a true gamebreaker, someone who could carry the team on his back I would strongly consider it. As someone mentioned before one good thing is we may have found some young lineman who could eventually start. Beatty showed flashes and Boothe filled in admirably. Honorable mention goes to our 300 pound swiss army knife Rich Seubert. Hes so valuable to this team and its not said enough.
  10. Yeah Im really sick of seeing that too. Webster and Thomas are big corners. Fewell needs to use that to his advantage in his schemes. Rodgers was taking a lot of three step drops to combat our pass rush and the cushion they were giving the receivers made it easier than it should have been. It reminded me quite a bit of Tim Lewis and the two Wills. Needless to say those are times I would like to forget.
  11. Its certainly something to consider. Regardless of what kind of depth we have, linebacker is a must to upgrade. I also wouldn`t mind looking into a new nickel corner to challenge Ross next season in camp. I will say this about the defense. They sure as hell didn`t look worn down for the first 52 minutes of the Eagle game. What happened after that and this past Sunday is another story. They effectively destroyed an entire season of work in 68 minutes. Its impossibly bad and almost takes conscious effort to fail at the level they did.
  12. Why do we keep talking about Eli and his perceived skill level? He`s proven you can win with him and he`s locked up long term so he`s going to be the quarterback regardless of how he plays. This year hasn`t been kind to him. He leads the league in turnovers. That sucks and he would be the first to tell you that. I think he can rebound from this and hopefully a fully recovered Steve Smith helps make that possible. Perhaps a few adjustments to the offensive playcalling and another year working with Nicks and Manningham will help too. Obviously the playcalling is contingent on Gilbrides future so we shall see.
  13. The Giants deserve any embarrassment and humiliation they get for the last 4 1/2 quarters of football they played. As much as that Eagle game hurt and how angry I was at our team, I still had faith that they would come out Sunday, play hard, and have a good opportunity to win. They had a chance to begin to erase the nightmare of that loss and they showed absolutely nothing in the way of execution or passion. I'm not going to stick up for them right now. Why should we as fans defend their pride when they can't do it themselves?
  14. I think most Giants fans would agree that Eli is a solid to above average. Like many of you said, he is good enough to win games and has proven when he has things together he can be very good and win the big one. This year things havent worked out. When your quarterback leads the league in turnovers you arent going to get very far. The fact that they have 9 wins while leading the league in turnovers is a testament to the raw physical talent on the team. I have confidence he will be able to bounce back from this. My main issue right now is with the defense. Eli could have been perfect yesterday and it wouldnt have made a difference with the way they played. For a defense with their talent and reputation they sure do get blown out and embarrassed alot. Its obviously not Fewell either we saw the same efforts under Sheridan albeit to a larger degree last season. Funny thing is other than linebacker I dont even know how to upgrade the roster. The talent is there they should be a playoff team. I wish I had answers but I dont. Something is missing and I dont know what it is.
  15. Why is Cowher this sacred cow anyway? What the fuck has he done that Coughlin hasn`t? Last time I checked they both have one ring and Coughlin is responsible for coaching one of the greatest playoff runs of all time and beating an undefeated team in the Super Bowl. Last weeks loss was on another level but lets keep the faith we have seen this group respond to adversity before.
  16. Im glad other people feel like I do. Sunday took my hatred of Philly to a new level. Granted, Im very angry at our Giants for letting it happen but a playoff win over the Eagles is the only way to erase this. A Super Bowl would be awesome but if it doesnt go through Philly the bad taste will still be there. Now, on to Sunday. Its going to be cold and the crowd will be amped. This team has done it there before and I think our running game and the Packers inability to run will be the difference 24 20 good guys.
  17. Agree 100 %. It would certainly be a lot sweeter in my opinion, considering the Eagles haven't won a damn thing and the fan base is truly beginning to believe that Vick and the team they have right now is ready to win a Super Bowl. Destroying everything they hoped for would be one of the best things I have ever seen as a sports fan. I know the goal every year is to win a Super Bowl, but this past Sunday altered that a little bit for me. I need to see the Giants get another chance at this Eagle team. They have to get the monkey off their back and if the opportunity presents itself, they have to seize it.
  18. For whatever reason, the Eagles have the formula for stopping the Giants run game. I think Gilbride had a very good gameplan and the proof is in the results. 31 points and 364 yards of offense. Aside from a few runs the offensive line was not getting the push necessary to control the game running the ball. Too many times there were Eagles in the backfield before our backs could get to the line, particularly Jacobs. Not to keep harping on the offense but the Diehl false start on 2nd and 6 was a fucking killer. The offense couldnt make the plays to close the game out but this loss was made possible by a defensive collapse of historical proportions. I will say one thing about Gilbride. I hate when we have 2nd and 3rd and short situations and we go into the shotgun. It doesnt make sense to me and it bugs the hell out of me. Thats it on to Green Bay. Win and we are in. If they can respond after this I really believe great things could be in store in the postseason.
  19. I forgot about this game until you mentioned it. I do remember quite vividly the Doug Johnson led Falcons coming into town and winning. The Giants were a double digit favorite if I remember correctly. I think that game was a major contributor to why I still have a built in concern whenever the Giants play back up quarterbacks.
  20. I really don't think this should be a debate but the media and plenty of fans are going to have knee jerk reactions to the worst regular season loss in this team's long history. I hope the players take a look in the mirror and take notice to the beating Coughlin is taking because of this. If any one of them had been able to make one single play in those final minutes this never happens.
  21. Giants have to step up and win next week bottom line. They owe it to the fans for putting us through that shitstorm. And if that happens and they see the Eagles again they better end their fucking season. Yesterday changed everything for me it`s not entirely about the Super Bowl anymore. I know its one step at a time but I cant take another loss to philly and if theres an opportunity to destroy the dreams and hopes of that city they need to seize it.
  22. Guys I know we are all incredibly frustrated and angry. Ive never been embarrassed to be a fan of a team I root for and yesterday did that to me. I cannot blame Gilbride Coughlin or even Fewell for this. It comes down to the guys on the field stepping up and making plays. We can dissect this forever but we literally needed one big play from anyone on the team. Whether it be a first down from one of our backs a big catch for a first down or a sack by the defense. 31 points is a great offensive day and it`s obvious the defense took their foot off the gas and gave the game up but if someone makes one single play in those final 8 minutes the Giants win. Not one player did that.
  23. Im not over this. I hate the Eagles more than anything in sports. I live in south jersey so all the local radio is Philly. I have to hear how great the Eagles are and about Vick and thats before I include espn and their gushing over him. Do you know whats worse though? Watching my team play them and not be able to do a goddamn thing about it. I know the playoffs are very much alive and Ill be right there watching next Sunday but Im sick and fucking tired of being embarassed by this team and its fan base.
  24. 31 points at home should be enough to win a game. Its more than enough when the other team has 10 points with 8 minutes left. The defense disgraced themselves after putting a magnificent first half together. Im embarrassed as a fan and I am embarrassed for them. No amount of coaching was going to prevent what happened today. There comes a point where the players on the field have to step up and make a play and they didnt. Im going to leave it at that I know thats putting it simple but they ripped my heart out today and Im not in the mood to get into it any further right now.
  25. 200 yards on the ground and 3 points allowed by the defense are very good things to see. The main concern for me right now is the carelessness Eli is displaying with the football. We have seen this from him in the past and have also witnessed how good he can be when he takes care of the ball, the obvious example the 2007 Super Bowl run which was one of the most efficient stretch of playoff performances by a quarterback in recent memeory. As it stands, the Giants have three more games left and the playoffs are far from guaranteed. Eli has to straighten things out right now starting this Sunday. Another two turnover performance by Manning and come Monday the Giants are probably in second place.
