  1. Brown is such an underrated commodity that after leaving new York he opted to go DIRECTLY to the Detroit Lions. Yep. He's THAT good.
  2. So... who would the Dog say were more consistent powers in the 80's? Nobody in their right mind would say anyone in the AFC after 85.... so who were the great powerhouses to go along with the almighty Niners, from the Dog's point of view? The Broncos? The Redskins? The Eagles? inquiring minds want to know.
  3. Yeah, Ramses... you GO! FIGHT for that, uh... FOURTH wide reciever position.
  4. The Dog shouldn't forget that in that time span, the Giants were playing in inarguably the toughest division in football. The Landry Cowboys, Buddy Ryan Eagles, and Gibbs Redskins were ALL very competitive and successful in that time frame... where the 49ers were facing the likes of the sometimes-competitive Rams, the hapless Saints, and the "how-the-fuck-are-they-in-the-NFC-West" Atlanta Falcons. The Niners compiled an awesome record every season beating up on tomato cans.
  5. To the casual observer, I can see why the Dog would think this way. However, if he actually WATCHED the Giants/Niners series, I think his opinion may be somewhat different. Montana (while still great) was a different player against the Giants after Jim Burt's vicious hit on him in the '87 season. From that point on, "Joe Cool," would pull quite a bit of "Peyton-ing" and roll up into a ball when the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Carl Banks, and Erik Howard would bear down on him. He would still post great games, he was just a little more... apprehensive... then he had been in the past. Leonard Marshall proved him right when Montana was once again crushed by a Giants D-lineman en route to their second Super Bowl victory. If the Dog needs more proof... he should take a look at the Niners/L.A. Rams game from 1987. A loss from the 13-2 Niners would have kept the Giants out of the playoffs... even the Niners' BACKUPS completely laid down and took a dive against the pitiful Rams to keep the Giants outta the strike-shortened postseason. They weren't interested in winning... they were interested in making sure they didn't have to face Big Blue in the postseason again.
  6. Westbrook is washed up. He belongs in Washington. I'm a little alarmed at Jacobs' play last year as well... he ran like a 270-lb pussy. He may have one good season left in him, but I think one foot might already be in his grave... injuries are no excuse... Bradshaw ran on a bum ankle and two broken feet and he still was productive. Speaking of Bradshaw, I think he's in a contract year, so barring injuries I'd expect him to at least have an even split, if not a 60/40 or better split with Jacobs. He's very good when he's healthy. Andre Brown won't do much as Achilles injuries typically take two years to recover from, and D.J. Ware is largely unknown... though in limited action he DID kind of remind me of Ryan Grant. Last year I was worried about the WRs and they panned out fine... this year it's the RBs and LBs. As of now I trust the staff and Reese, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm also a little worried about both positions.
  7. Yep. People are still gonna remember him as being one of the top linebackers in the game if he calls it a career now. No reason to "Emmit Smith" himself and stick around for too long.
  8. To everyone yelling, "why don't the Giants go out and sign Brandon Marshall or Terrell Owens..." THIS is the reason why they don't. Steve Smith wants and deserves more money, but he's going about things the right way... as an adult. His requests are not unreasonable (he's a different player, but at LEAST as valuable as a Greg Jennings) and he's not going to cry because he's the victim of bad circumstances (the Collective Bargaining agreement). It's no wonder Reese goes after "character" guys like this. Smith has earned his pay and both he and the Giants know it. I hope both sides get this done.
  9. I always liked AP... not the biggest, fastest, or strongest guy, but squeezed nine very productive NFL seasons solely outta brains and heart. He'll be a GREAT analyst for ESPN.
  10. Either he will or the Tony Homo Cowboys will. One of the two will sweep... it's the way it always works. Didn't quite know which way to go but I went dark horse instead of "expert favorites" for the sweep. No way the overrated Titans and weak-sauce Texans beat us. Aside from that I more or less agree.
  11. Panthers W Colts W Titans W Bears L Texans W Lions W Cowboys L BYE Seahawks W Cowboys W Eagles L Jaguars W Redskins W Vikings L Eagles L Packers L Redskins W ...I've got us at 10-6, wild card spot a good possibility. NO WAY we lose that game to the Colts unless the refs fucking rob us AGAIN.
  12. Phillips isn't going to make the field for any more than 2 games at a time. He's got arthritis. His career is over.
  13. Let's see how he does on gameday with his schemes before we make any decisions... but I've gotta admit, I'm not liking what I hear out of him so far. A good D-coordinator changes his schemes to fit his players' strengths. We all know that Ross and Webster suck as zone corners, yet Fewell has said he wants to do more of a zone scheme. Also, he's said that he doesn't want to rotate the line as much, which I guess could go either way. We'll see. Playing five yards off the line against the DeSean Jacksons and MIles Austins of the division should absolutely kill us.
  14. Nas, they were talking about amputating his leg. He's in the exact same boat as Phillips... he might gimp onto the field at some point, but his career is likely over.
  15. Why does everyone say the Giants are a "run-first" team? The only reason Killdrive EVER runs is when it's so obvious the pass isn't working he has no choice. This author cleverly fails to mention that the Giants began their successful 2007 run only AFTER Gilbride went from a pass-first offense to a run-first one... actually playing on THE STRENGTH of the Giants offense at the time. I mean, shit... Steve Smith had what... 100 catches last year? That's more than most receivers have in TWO seasons. Manningham and Nicks I think had over 50 a piece... we pass all over the place... WTF?
  16. That's what I thought too. Butkus beats Lewis easy, and probably also beats Taylor.
  17. I agree. Osi had better be careful about lighting his own fire under Kiwi's ass talking like that.
  18. Honestly, I know they had a bit of a down year, but I think our O-line is fine. Seubert and/or Diehl will be ok at that position.
