I also think part of the skill is the blocking part. The long snapper has two hands on the ball and is bent all the way over and has to bring himself up very quickly to block, much different than a regular snap.

 

Though I'm not gonna lie I don't understand why you can't train linemen with existing roster spots to do it.

I agree with your first paragraph. After reading about how important and difficult long snapping is.. I'm wondering if the league can make the position a bit safer..

We lost a game against the Texans that year too cause the snap went over Matt Allen's head for a safety.

 

16 to 14.

 

If long snapping was easy, every one would do it...but it's a skill.

 

snapping and holding was a problem that entire year.

I watched a show once on long snappers and it was called the best position to play in football. You get paid very well, $700,000 for DeOssie, and you only have a few plays a game. Just like punter or kicker though it's a high skill/high pressure position where you better not screw up.
