Young Guns on Defense Could Usher in a

The Giants defense hasn't been bad recently, but enter a few guys that Jerry Reese has selected in the past few drafts, and this defense may be about to take off.

Forget the talk about Umenyiora and Kiwanuka. Reese has always made sure the Giants can rotate at least 3 strong DE's, and I think that will be the case this year. But recent draft picks may begin to pay huge dividends. Nobody can dispute that Justin Tuck is the defense's best and most complete player, but there is help. Terrell Thomas is a physical corner who is coming on strong. With Corey Webster, they make a talented and underrated duo. Now Prince Amukamara has joined the team and could make this secondary very stout. Tyler Sash is a guy whose expectations belie his late 6th round draft status, a player worth watching.

Last year's pick, Jason Pierre-Paul, had 5 sacks in limited time. If there is any player that is primed to explode, it's Pierre-Paul. There is simply not many people walking this earth with his size (6'5", 270) to go with incredible athleticism. This is a player that could lead the NFL in sacks year after year... that is his ceiling.

Reese also addressed the interior of the defensive line the past couple of years with Linval Joseph and Marvin Austin. We may have to wait a bit, but this line could be crazy good.

The one question mark remains at the linebacker position. Will Sintim finally emerge? Could there still be a diamond in the rough? There's plenty of candidates in Jacquian Williams, Mark Herzlich, Greg Jones, Phillip Dillard, and Adrian Tracy. They will need a strong 2011 campaign from Michael Boley and probably a veteran at the strongside until we know for sure if one of these young guys will emerge.

But with so much young talent to join established players like Tuck, Webster, Antrel Rolle, Kenny Phillips, Chris Canty, and possibly Osi Umenyiora or Mathias Kiwanuka, then a new Big Blue Wrecking Crew could emerge.

Great post, agreed.

I really think Marvin Austin is going to be a Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate

You know.. I wish the Giants would make room under the cap (maybe next year) and put the MLB issue to rest... as in get a stud MLB to hold all those peices together. Can you imagine a Ray Lewis type MLB in the lineup?

Also worth nothing Fewel has one year under his belt with this defense... let's hope he learned alot from it.
