BleedinBlue
Giants have been very quiet in the off season so far, but here's one tidbit of new info.....finally! Apparantly, the Giants are hosting cornerback Brian Kelly tomorrow (Thursday). He is also being pursued by Detroit and Buffalo so far. I don't know much about him (actually nothing at all to be truthful) other than he's another "stop-gap" type player who's 32 years old and would probably be a steady corner for a year or two. Here's what I find on the net about him: "Playmaking cornerback with exceptional coverage skills… Physical performer who excels at bump-and-run coverage and is a fundamentally sound open-field tackler... Ball-hawking cornerback who is capable of shutting down the opponent’s top receiver… Buccaneers defense has finished in the top five in pass defense, including two No. 1 rankings, in four of six seasons since he became a full-time starter ... Additionally, the Buccaneers defense has finished as the top overall defense in the NFL on two occasions while he manned the left cornerback spot … His 20 career interceptions rank seventh in team history... Has totaled 17 interceptions since 2002 to lead the Buccaneers… Ranked tied for second in the NFL with a team-best 22 passes defensed in 2004... Enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2002 as he tied for the NFL lead in interceptions on the league’s top-ranked defense... Established career-highs in interceptions (eight), passes defensed (23) and tackles (78) in his first full season as a starting cornerback for the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers in 2002... Has played in 119 career games with 75 starts... Also has seen action in eight postseason games with five starts, totaling 25 tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defensed... Career numbers include 404 tackles, 20 interceptions, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, 3.5 sacks and 109 passes defensed... Has added 26 career special teams stops and one career touchdown on an interception return... Originally entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick (45th overall) by the Buccaneers in 1998". His stats don't seem that impressive in the past two years. In the 2006 season, he spent most of the season on injured reserve with a foot problem. In the 2007 season, he missed 5 games and had limited playing time in 11 games. Don't know the status of his injuries now. Found this on nfl.wikio: "Just like that, cornerback has become an area of need for the Bucs this offseason. Brian Kelly is the reason. The longtime starting left corner quit on the Bucs on Feb. 15, buying his freedom for a reported $453,000"

gateb
See ya later R.W.! R.W.'s more versatile then Sam. Sam is better than RW at CB but RW can play safety, and is an adequate PR.
boohyah
See ya later R.W.! RW is staying until camp at least, they think he could spend some time at safety. He's big enough.
Treehugger
Kelly's pretty good but I would ahve preferred to pick him up three years ago.
fishgutmartyr
This one has me confused, and I'm going Storm and saying that he's a bit old when you consider we already have vet CBs. But then again, the last Brian Kelley we had was good for us.

njsmalls
No more old guys. We won the Superbowl after doing very little in free agency.
