  1. I agree 100%. I just want to use one, 1, uno draft pick on a WR. All 6 others can and should be defensive picks. Ideally this WR pick is in the 3rd or 4th round, IMO.
  2. Sorry about misquoting the offense, I did it in a hurry but my point was that we werent top scoring team and a top 5 team in every offensive category. Ill give you OLB and DT as needs ahead of WR in this draft. I even agree with you to some extent that we need a LT too (although its harder to find a legit LT in the third than a WR). I think that S and WR are comparable in terms of need, although I give the edge to WR b/c of the Toomer's Age Factor. We absolutely dont have a need at CB though. A third round pick would be behind the following: Madison, McQuarters, Webster, Deloach, Peterson and Walker. As for C, we have 2 serviceable centers and adding another would just be a waste of a roster spot. Well, if my options are 3rd WR OR rebuilding the defense, its close, but i guess id have to go w/ rebuilding the defense. Last time I checked though, you cant rebuild an entire defense in one draft pick, let alone a third round pick.
  3. I just want 1 WR. He'd be 5th, Tyree will never be a legit WR... hes ST all the way. And when Carter and Taylor get their annual injuries he instantly becomes the #3. JK. I pray that Carter can stay healthy b/c hes exactly what we need. Unfortunately he just cant do it which is why we need to draft a WR, for insurance and to challenge for that spot.
  4. Yeah, i noticed that right after i posted it. I got bad info from a bad sight. My apologies. Point is we weren't the top scoring team and we weren't top 5 in the other offensive categories.... although we sure could be if we had a consistent 3rd WR
  5. I agree wholehartedly that LB and DT are much bigger needs this offseason. I even think we could go for drafting 2 at each position. Im just looking past those two and the only other true need I see left is the third WR. Here's another way to look at it. Lets say we go w/ Lb/dt in first two rounds. I think adding a third WR in round 3 could help us go from 3rd to 1st in offense wheras adding a player at ANY position wouldnt effect our defensive ranking because they would never get onto the field this year. If you can think of a spot, please let me know.
  6. I do understand his point but just because we're near the tops in the league in a given category doesnt mean we can stop trying to improve. The third WR is a very obvious position that can use some improvement, that point is undeniable. You can argue that we have more pressing needs but I'm arguing that after we address LB and DT there isnt anything more pressing. Some team has to have the best offense in the league, why not us? Why should we be content with 3rd or 4th. I really think adding a threat at #3 WR will propel us to the top and have a better effect on this team than adding depth on defense.
  7. Well then what are our worries other than DT and LB? I think we seem pretty solid at S, CB and DE.
  8. Nice research there. Pts scored - 6th YPG - 8th Rushing YPG - 6th Passing YPG - 13th So what categories were you thinking of for the top 5 offenses? Thats good but definitely not elite. What positions do we need to draft other than DT and LB to improve our defense? Do a litte reading before you get back to me because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
  9. Im not expecting him to make a big contribution at all. I just think we need some insurance at this position, at least more than any other. I think that the drop off from Plax to Carter/Taylor is worse than going Pierce to Blackburn. And thats if Carter and Taylor can stay healthy, something they have NEVER done. I just want EA to use 1 pick in this draft on a WR. Thats it. Id be happy with a draft that went something like this: LB, DT, WR, LB, DT, CB, S. I just dont feel comfortable at all knowing that our backups at WR have, in 6 combined seasons, about 500 yards, 1 TD and 42 injuries. I just want some insurance. And maybe this draftee turns into a decent receiver in a few years for Eli when the GOAT hangs them up. I dont think thats too much to ask.
  10. Im not saying that we need to have a great third receiver. I just think that our offense would reach an entirely new level if we had a consistent third wide receiver. It would be comparable to the nickel back, a third down passing play specialist. It's been a non-existent position for us recently. The are teams out there with great offenses who have 3 solid WR's and a good TE. I just think that the third WR is the only spot on our offense that could use a bit of help. I just want a guy who will make 3-5 catches a game to help keep the drives going and to stretch the field a bit. Just because our offense is good, doesnt mean it cant get better. If we get a consistent #3 WR our offense would be unstoppable. I dont mean that we call plays for this guy instead of Shockey but with a third WR we can actually go w/ a spread formation and if he Eli sees that hes open he gets the pass. Most of the time though, we go to the other guys. Its a minor position, but I think an upgrade at it would really put our offense into the category of elite of the elite. It would at least help us more than adding say, a 6th CB or 5th safety, IMO.
  11. Talent is much better at WR than at corner? Lets break it down. You need 3 starters at each, 2 regulars and nickel/slot. 1. Madison vs. Plax -- Push. Madison is a probowler but Plax is younger 2. Webster vs. Amani -- Amani. Although for not much longer. Webser is talented and an up and coming guy whereas Amani is in the twilight years. 3. McQuarters vs. Carter --- McQuarters. Hes actually played in the NFL. 4. Deloach vs. Taylor --- Push. Both young w/ potential. 5. Walker vs. Tyree --- Walker. Walker's got potential and shows that he can be a good CB if he cuts down on mistakes. Tyree has shown nothing whatsoever in terms of his being a decent WR. So its pretty close in terms of quality although I think CB's are a bit more solid than WR, especially since there is the chance that Will P returns at some point in the next year or two. And the top 3 CB's are more consistent than the top 3 WR's. Id argue that there is more talent at CB than WR. Why do we need 2 LB's? Have you already forgotten what happened last year? And we've lost LB's since then. We dont NEED a second DT, but I think a mid round DT has a better chance of making the field than a mid round CB does. 4th round DT ends up being our 4th or 5th whereas a CB is 6th on the depth chart. I think CB and S are comparable in terms of need.
  12. Thats a huge if considering hes played 4 seasons and never been healthy. Also Tyree is not a legit receiver... hes too and doesnt get any seperation. IMO Taylor is the best chance we have at a consistent, legit, third WR.
  13. Here's why I disagree with you Hound. I think the Giants are a few pieces away from being legit contenders if they're not already there, agreed? So if I'm going off of that, Im looking to get players that can help us get better this year. I agree that we have HUGE needs at DT and LB but after that the needs arent nearly as dire as many make it sound. So lets say that we take Ernie Sims in round 1 and Claude Wroten in round 2. Feel free to change those names with any other players that you think will be available. The point we get a LB and DT in rounds 1 and 2. So then what next in round 3? Anybody that you can think of that we draft in round 3 on defense will be on the bench, maybe deep on the bench. A third round pick of a DE or CB will be roughly the 5th or 6th option so thats out. Our LB's will be Torbor, Emmons, Pierce, Blackburn, Ernie Sims. The third round pick would be a deep reserve here too. DT we would have Allen, Joseph, Robbins, Round 2 Pick. A third round pick would only see the field this year if we suffered multiple, serious injuries at the same time. So the other defensive option w/ round 3 pick is at safety. It's unlikely that this pick would see the field since he would be the 4th safety on the team. So there is no position on defense which a third round pick would contribute this year without injuries to key players in front of him. So then I look to the offense. Any round 3 pick would be stuck on the bench with the exception of maybe WR. There is such a position as slot receiver in football (comparable to the nickel back) and just because we got almost 0 production out of this position last year doesnt mean we dont need it. Given the production, or lack thereof, from Carter and Taylor I don't think you can say we are set here. At worst, a third round receiver would provide good competition in training camp and would be a much needed backup if Amani or Plax gets injured. My point is that after addressing DT and LB needs, the WR spot is the ONLY position on the team in which a third round pick has a chance of making an impact. If you disagree with this point, please let me know which position(s) on defense that you think a third round pick would contribute.
  14. I just did one of these in my WR thread. Anyway, I disagree with your opinion about no need at WR. I think after DT and LB, WR is the thinnest position. It's the only one other than those two that doesnt have a legitimate backup if a starter goes down. Our two reserves Carter and Taylor have the following career stats: Carter (4 seasons): 50 receptions for 714 yards and 1 TD Taylor (2 seasons): 6 receptions for 146 yards and 0 TD The Giants had the second worst production out of their #3 WR last year. I think its clearly our #3 priority in the draft after DT and LB.
  15. Except that CB is no longer a position of need. Given the signings of Madison and Mcquarters, I believe the following are a greater need: 2 LB's, 2 DT's, WR, SS. If we select on need alone the draft would go something like this: 1. Lawson LB 2. Wroten DT 3. Orr WR 4. Dvoacek DT 5. Threat S 6. Johnson LB 7. Lawrence Taylor LB Im not saying thats going to happen, or even close.... its just a mock based on need alone. That said, I think we have to go DT or LB in the first. Those are the only two positions which a rookie will have a chance of helping us this year. Given how close to the Giants are to being SB contenders they need players to contribute now.
  16. I asked for this not to turn into a debate of whether or not the Giants will use a draft pick on a WR but rather IF they do, who would they take... you dipshits obviously can't read and have made posts refuting this possibility without and semblance of an argument so I'm going to go ahead and explain why using one of the draft picks in rounds 2-4 on a WR is a good idea. First lets take a look at our roster and from there we'll decide what our needs are. First player(s) listed are starters, --- denotes reserves: QB: Eli -- Hasslebeck, FA to be signed RB: Tiki -- Jacobs, Ward FB: Finn -- Hanoian TE: JS -- Shiancoe, Berton OL: LP, Diehl, Ohara, Snee, Mckenzie -- Whitfield, Seubert WR*: Plax, Toomer. Slot: Carter/Taylor -- Tyree, Ponder DE: Strahan, Osi -- Tuck, Moore, Awasom DT: WJ, Allen -- Robbins, Duckett LB: Emmons, Pierce, Torbor -- Blackburn, Jackson CB: Madison, Webster. Nickel: McQuarters -- Deloach, Peterson S: Wilson, Demps -- Butler So if nothing significant changes before today and draft day we don't have any positons that cannot decently be filled by the players that we currently have. So the draft will be used to add depth at positions of weakness and those that where we are the most thin. IMO the top two needs are LB and DT. I dont think anyone really disagrees with that so lets move onto our secondary concerns. For this I will imagine the scenario if one of our starters gets injured. Im going to exclude Tiki and Eli from this experiment b/c if either of them goes down we're fucked. We have decent backups at OL, DE, CB and S. That leaves FB, TE and WR. I think the Giants will roll the dice w/ FB and TE but not WR. As those who continually rag on Carter and Taylor for not being able to stay healthy, I'd think you would be proponents of drafting a WR but for some reason you're not. Given how thin the Giants are at WR and EA's eagerness to surround Eli w/ future talent, drafting a WR this year accomplishes three goals: 1. It gives us important depth if the aging Toomer gets injured. 2. It brings another player to compete with Carter and Taylor for the #3 WR... a position in which the Giants were second to last in the NFL in terms of production. 3. It brings in a young receiver to be a target for Eli for years to come. As long as we draft a LB and DT in the first 3 rounds, I think that adding a WR at some point in rounds 2-4 would be a wise decision. It would be more valuable IMO than adding to our plethora of DB's or DE's. Given this argument, you can't at least rule out the possibility that the Giants use a draft pick on a WR -- especially since they just tried to add Keyshawn but failed. EA has stated this offseason that a priority of his is adding a consistent #3 WR threat. He has yet to do that. He's the one who makes the decisions on draft day, not you guys. If he does as he says I think he will draft a WR in rounds 2-4. I would just like to discuss who that player might be. If you dont want to discuss that, its OK w/ me -- just move onto another topic. Thanks.
  17. I think 99% of the things you post are incorrect and worthless but you're entitled to your own opinon so I dont argue. This on the other hand is creative and actually pretty funny. Nice job.
  18. A few weeks ago I brought up the idea of drafting a WR, stating that the Giants had a huge hole at this position behind Amani and Plax. Some were receptive and others not so much. I think as time has passed people have begun to realize the need for a solid backup to at least compete w/ Carter, Taylor and Tyree while being a potential replacement to Amani a few years down the line. When I first brough it up, I thought we should draft Jackson in the first round. Since then he tore up the combine and skyrocketed up draft boards, making it highly unlikely that we are able to get him. So since there seems to be growing sentiment that we need a WR I thought we should have a topic that addresses this issue. Im assuming Holmes and Jackson will be gone by the time we pick. Santonio Moss - Im skeptical, given his very limited production in college. I think we can get a better talent and a safer pick in the first round. LB seems to be the leading candidate. So this means that a WR we draft will be after the first round. Some guys I like: Demeterius Williams - I like him a lot more than Hagan. He's got more potential and is a better athlete. He's a great deep threat and I think a good compliment to Plax/Toomer. Jeff Webb - Might be a super talented player. This is a decision for the FO. I dont know enough about him. Jonathon Orr - Very athletic receiver who can be very dangerous. Knock on him was lack of production for his talent but my guess this is because he was in Wisconsins offense which isnt built at all for passing. They are strictly a running team (even Dayne was able to win a Heisman b/c of their offense) so he might be much better than his numbers project. Devin Aromashodu - Very fast and good at catching the deep ball. Also has kick returning experience. Brandon Williams - My favorite mid-round WR. Hes super dangerous when he gets the ball. Phenomenal return guy. Knock on him is that hes short but with Plax and Amani we don't need height. We need a guy who can get open and make a few catches every game to help extend drives. Will get lots of 1 on 1 coverage and if he gets a step on his man, watch out. Devin Hester - This guys not really a WR. He couldnt even get on the field in college except for returns. But he was by far the quickest, most dangerous return man in the college game. Im not really a fan since hes more of a track star than football player, but I felt compelled to add him to the list given his unreal return ability and blazing speed. Williams is the only one on this list that I think might be worthy of a second round pick. The others are all 3rd and 4th rounders IMO. Hester is only worthy of a 4th-6th rounder. This is just to get us started. Let me know which of these guys you like, if any. If you have other guys you think would be good, please let me know. Also, this isnt a topic to debate the worthiness of using a 2-4 round pick on a WR. For now, Im assuming that the Giants will go that route and want to discuss the players, not the position. Thanks.
  19. Thanks for the update. The price of 6 million per year and 10-12 guaranteed is out of the giants price range. If we dont get Arrington, I think it virtually guarantees that we use our first pick to get a LB, unless there's a player on the board that is too good to pass up.
  20. The thing is, the Giants just need Carter OR Taylor to stay healthy. They dont need both, yet both get injured. Hopefully this will be the year that neither of them gets injured (although if they pass the bug onto plax/amani ill be uber upset).... which is why we still need another WR. Chad Jackson --- please dont get drafted before pick 25. Please.
  21. Nice post bleedinblue. A few things: 1. Aka is short for "Also known as"... I think you meant to use "a la" which roughly translates as similar to or like. 2. I agree that roughly 5 of the picks will address defense. I dont think this is the draft for Tiki's replacement, although he might be out there and I just don't know it. Also there is a chance that Jacobs can be an every down back although I doubt it, but maybe the coaches are willing to give him a shot and therfore will be reluctant to use a valuable pick on a RB. I think its more likely that we use an offensive pick to grab a WR with the hopes that can be Toomer's replacement. Carter is clearly a short-term solution and this is a position that the Giants are a bit thin at. Id be very suprsised if we didnt draft a WR in the first 4 rounds, especially after losing out on the Keyshawn sweepstakes. Other offensive picks could address depth at OL, TE and numerous other positions. EA will pick guys that he thinks can be good, not just draft guys to fill positions. 3. EA has done fairly well in the overall drafts lately. I have faith that he can find a key guy or two. The Giants have a solid core of young players and if EA can add to that he will have put together a fine, young team that will compete for years to come. I can wait for draft day.
  22. First of all, any CB we draft will be sitting beside Peterson. We signed Madison to be our starting CB w/ Webster for the near future. Any CB draftee will be given ample to time to practice and adjust to the NFL before they are thrown onto the field... unlike Websters rookie year. That said we do take the risk. With the advancements in medicine lately, its rare to have a very serious injury that never heals. Take Mcgahee's knee for example. I think anyone who saw that game and the 487 replays of his knee imploding would say that they thought there was a great chance that he would never play again. Last year he proved that he's returned to top form and his running over defenses again. Cromarties injury was a simple ACL tear. While this used to be a devastating injury, players routinely make 100% recoveries now given ample time to rehab. Since he won't be a starter for us he should be near 100% sometime in the next year. Cromartie is a much more talented player than Hill and since this pick would be a long-term solution we go with the better player and that is Cromartie by a lot. That said, we're not going to draft a CB with the first pick unless Cromartie is available and EA thinks that he's the BPA by a lot. I also think some team will gamble on Cromartie and he'll be gone before our pick. I also don't see us passing up on the talented group of LB's in the first round unless there's a player too good to pass up.
  23. And his injury seems to be healed or at least on its way to being 100%. Its highly unlikely that Hill would be able to leapfrog Webster, Deloach, McQuarters and Peterson for the starting job so Id be more inclined to take the more talented player as long as his injury seems to have no long-term effects.
  24. I think you could bump picks 2-6 down a spot, roughly. Orie Harris should be available in the third and Johnson in the fouth. Other than that pretty good. Im a Cromartie fan if available. In the second I like a LB if we get Cromartie.
  25. that Osi leads the league in sacks... that Brandon Jacobs rushes for 1000 yards... that Tiki wins the MVP... that Feagles plays... that Luke Petigoute has 0 false starts... that Antonio Pierce leads the league in tackles... that Amani continues to be the GOAT... that Justin Tuck proves to be Strahans replacement... that Corey Webster turns into a top 5 CB... that Eli is better than Peyton... that Will Pete plays again... that Curtis Deloach is everything the coaches believe... that Shockey becomes the unquestionable best TE in football... that Sam Madison isn't over the hill... that our top pick is a stud... but most importantly...... that The New York Giants win SUPER BOWL XLI.
