  1. The giants ran a reverse EVERY play that carter and tyree were on the field?? Wow, didnt know that. If defenses are primarily concerned with Carter and Tyree getting off a big reverse then Tiki is going to run for 2000 yards this year between the tackles and Shockey, Plax and Toomer will all get single coverage and tear secondaries up. So im not nearly as concerned about teams keying on our #3 WR's running reverses as you are, but maybe I should be.... i dunno.
  2. EA tried to upgrade at this position via free agency but he would have had to overpay for Meshawn and Burleson. The Giants have to have someone this year as our #3 WR so signing Carter to a cheap, short contract is fine. Its clearly a short-term solution and will be a top priority next year, especiallly since Toomer is getting closer and closer to finishing his career. If Jackson or Holmes falls to us, there is a chance we take them, although that scneario is highly unlikely. So it seems as if Taylor, Carter, Tyree and a mid-round draft pick will be fighting for the #3 WR spot. Carter, if healthy, is probably the leading candidate since he has blazing speed and can put pressure on defenses with his reverses and fly patterns.
  3. EA wont give him that type of money, but I dont think anyone else will either. Given his injuries and other problems teams will be reluctant to shell out the big bucks. You may recall a thread I started earlier this offseason before Madison even hit the market entitled "What Accorsi will actually do." In that thread I predicted that EA would sign Law because he wants to go out big in his last year and give the Giants the best opportunity to win THIS year. I was incorrect about the player he would get (Madison hadnt even been cut yet so im giving myself some slack) but the general principle was correct. EA went above and beyond with the other 2 DB signings. I think that if the opportunity is there for EA to snag Lavar at a reasonable price (reasonable is relative and for a GM making his last FA signing I think he might stretch it a bit) he will definitely do it. Someones going to have to overpay for Arrington because I dont see EA letting him go w/o putting up a fight.
  4. Here's the article from the Bengals sight: http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5152
  5. I'm not sure how valid this source is -- im just the messenger. Interesting info though, sounds like we're going to sign him soon: http://nygiants.mostvaluablenetwork.com/ "Around and around we go, where we’ll stop nobody knows. Lavar Arrington was scheduled to meet with the Cincinnati Bengals today, but plans fell through according to Bengals.com. “LaVar and I got our wires crossed,” Poston said Thursday. “He has been making visits and been on the road a lot. I still think it’s a visit that could happen at some point.” I’ve been told (but cannot confirm) that Arrington was in fact in New York yesterday, once again meeting with the Giants. I’ve also been told the Giants have raised their initial offer to Arrington but was not given exact money figures. (I didn’t think this would happen, but would not be surprised at the same time.) One of the other teams expected to make a run for Arrington was the Miami Dolphins. But according to Miami.com the Dolphins will not be able to match Arrington’s price tag, and are unlikely to sign him. Finally, it looks like the Giants are waiting for a resolution to this Arrington fiasco before they make any future free agent moves. It appears as if they are holding off on other free agents so that they are sure they can afford Arrington."
  6. Cromartie, Lawson and Jackson are my top 3 choices. If we get one of them I will be thrilled.
  7. speaking of special teams... any update on feagles? I was on break and out of touch for the past 10 days. I think this is the time when players make the final choice to play or retire (i heard favre has decided to play) which made we wonder about feagles. I think if the Giants continue to improve this offseason he will decide to stay and take one final shot at the SB.
  8. There probably arent too many people out there who are a better judge of Lavars playmaking ability and attitude on the field than his former teammate. If AP wants him badly on this team, I say go for it. There is definitely something to be said for chemistry. Arrington didnt have the discipline problems when Pierce was his leader. Right now it just comes down to price. Its EA's job to now make a deal and sign LA at a fair value. Even if we sign Lavar Id still like to see the Giants draft a LB in the first. Lawson or Sims would provide the necessary depth if Arrington's injuries act up again.
  9. Im fine with the timing of the draft, but only because I pick late. If I had to pick around 6 it would be an issue. If you were thinking of moving the draft Id move it back an hour or two but Im fine with it now.
  10. sounds pretty nice. madison and webster doesnt sound too shabby either. i dont think we get arrington though... even if we dont get him, we should take a hard look at bunkley anyway. a sims or lawson probably doesnt start or get too much playing thime this year, whereas a bunkley might.
  11. Interesting comment about Bunkley if we get Madison AND Lavar. If we get Lavar as well as Madison, I think I'd rather see us use our top pick on a corner. Madison is a short term solution and with the deep draft at CB we should be able to get a good player. Ty Hill and Cromartie come to mind. The thing about Bunkeley is that he might actually contribute THIS YEAR, which would be huge. DT would be the only spot on the field (other than maybe FS) where I think a rookie would have the chance of starting (or at least playing a huge role) from day 1. If the FO thinks that Bunkley has that type of potential, Id be all for it.
  12. You're doing it again, Pete. These FA's are going to cost MUCH more than you think. From your list, I think we can only afford one of those guys and then a middle of the pack player. Madison and Arrington will probably each get 4-5 million per year, we can't even afford just those two. I see us pursuing Madison aggressively. After that we should have enough money to sign a solid DT (but not elite). Either Tripplett or Keowanu should be reasonably priced. We will then have just enough money to sign rookies and a couple of backups. We just don't have the funds to have an offseason like we did last year. Nice draft though.
  13. Glover already signed with the Rams. Id like us to go after Bernard but I think hes going to be way to expensive. After him, Triplett and Keowanau (or something like that) are next on my list. Joseph is going to be fine.
  14. I'd actually like it the other way around. Id like the best CB that we can afford and then get a real solid DT. Our secondary was our biggest problem last year and it's incredibly young. Having a guy like Law or Madison there would really help Webster, Gibril, Deloach and Butler. I think we could do either A or B: A. Madison and Clancy. B. Townsend and Bernard. Obviously you can substitute players along the same salary but its the idea of it. Id rather go with option A, getting a stud CB and decent Tackle as opposed to option B.
  15. I think with the overwhelming amount of talent and potential out there we could find someone who is just as talented and smarter than Arrington for much cheaper too. I think money could be spent much better elsewhere. Defensive tackle or wide receiver to name two spots. This is assuming, of course, that we our first priority is CB.
  16. For me its between Sims and Lawson, I'd be happy with either. It appears that Sims will be taken in the middle of the first round, making the the decision easy. Lawson at 25.
  17. First of all, I dont really think he is too much of a project. Yes, he played DL in his last 2 years, but hes played LB before and hes a very good athlete. As he said, he dropped back into zone often, which is a lot like playing LB. Also, hes not expected to start. He comes in to backup Emmons or Torbor with the idea of replacing Emmons in a year. I think he fits that image pretty nicely and he just might be talented enough to suprise some people and actually have a pretty good year, a la Tatupa.
  18. Prior to Sam Madison being on the market, Law was really the best option. Now that Madison is available, I think he's the better choice, partly because he's never won a super bowl so he would get on the win a super bowl for the veterans train. Strahan, Tiki and Amani are already aboard.
  19. The Giants are legitimate superbowl contenders, especially if they sign Madison. I think its important to use our first 2 draft players to add depth at some much needed positions (LB, DT and FS).
  20. Thanks pete. Im a huge Lawson fan.
  21. I think we need to give props to EA. He has actually put the Giants in a great position. Obviously he was planning to have an offseason w/ the normal salary cap (105ish) which would give us roughly 15 mill to spend. After last years great offseason he has put us in the position to acquire a big name or 2 to fill our last remaining holes and give us a realistic chance at the SB. Hopefully this deal gets done....
  22. What other FA DT do people like? I think Bernard is an obvious #1. After him, I like Triplett and Kemoeautu.
  23. Townsend is a HUGE dropoff from Madison. Personally, Id rather have Allen.
