  1. I'm a huge manny fan too. Is 25 too high though? Is he better than simms, dqwell and howard? Other than that, great draft ideas.
  2. While there will be some discounts on FA's this offseaon, the salary projetions you have are a bit ridiculous. Kevin Carter: Was making 6 Million this year. Very good player who will cost much more than 1 something this year. Derrick Brooks: Base Salary of about 5 Million. Huge Salary bonus. There is NO CHANCE that he will be signed for less than 2 million. If a team like the vikings hears a player of derrick brooks' caliber is available for 3 million, they will take some of their huge cap space him and outbid us. So we won't be able to get either of those guys. Also, I believe Jason Allen will be gone by the early 2nd round. I do like your idea of trading next year pick to Denver. Although, if these negotiations fall through (which you're basing the assessment on), next years draft will be more like free agency so I dont think Denver will trade the pick away. Signing a rookie this year for a rookie salary is great value for them.
  3. Couldn't find the link, but he said something along the lines "I'm just looking to play for a contender...." and then he went on to say that he would play for the Dolphins only if he thought they could contend, part of which included steven Mcnair. He was just on Quite Frankly and he said he had no clue where he was headed. Although, when asked which teams to look out for (in terms of winning the SB) he menitoned San Diego, saying they were only a defensive player or two... sounded kinda like he was angling to get himself there. As I mentioned, there's a great chance he goes to them.
  4. Yeah, but it was also contingent on us getting Chad Jackson. It was written a few days before he blew up at the combine. Prior to the combine, in most mock drafts he was getting picked in the late 1st to early 2nd round and I thought we would be able to steal a great player. I'm sold on Jackson, but not Moss. If his brother weren't Santana would he be getting nearly this much hype? He doesn't have much college production except for some phenomenal special teams play and I've heard that there is fear that his ceiling might be as a third WR and return guy. This draft is so stocked with talent that we better come away with a franchise guy in the first round. Jackson would be it, but I'm not sold on Moss. Although if EA thinks he can become a future #1 WR and be a dangerous #3 weapon this year then I would have no problem with it.
  5. 10 picks is 10 picks, WA wouldn't have had even close to that number but I think its becoming a moot point. With the failure to reach a CBA extension, the market should soon be flooded with talent at all positions. Sam Madison is just the first cap casualty, IMO. The Giants should have their pick of a quality FA CB, without having to go anywhere near the 8-10 million dollar range. This plan, of signing a quality CB (and i mean Ty Law, Sam Madison, Ronde Barber) is only becoming more likely as this offseason progresses. I think it's going to be very interesting to see who the Giants go after, and whether or not we get them at a discount due to the unique offseason circumstances.
  6. emmons? although cutting him would be a mistake unless we could sign a better/young player to take his spot.
  7. I saw a fair amount of games that he was in. He always seemed to stand out and watching him play, I always thought that we definitely didn't have a player of his caliber in our secondary. He did have 10 int's, that's not an accident. Also, Ty Law is a veteran who has accomplished basically everything there is for him to accomplish. Hes been a probowler, won the superbowl etc... Last year he was making a cool $10 mill playing for a non contender. He has made it clear that his priority is winning a SB. Put onto a team that is in the hunt for a SB, I imagine would motivate him unlike anything he had last year. I think he would step his game up. Also having a player of his experience and caliber would only rub off on the rest of our young secondary. There are definitely worse teammates for a young CB than Ty Law. Law, Tike, Goat and Strahan would give us veteran leadership all over the field, offense and defense. As the Steelers showed, veteran motivation doesnt hurt.
  8. Hmmm. I thought i heard we saved a lot more, but I'm sure you're right. The idea remains the same although I don't know if we have any salaries that could be possible cuts. The only other option that comes to mind is Toomer but I firmly believe we need him on the team to have any chance this season.
  9. I think anytime that you have the chance to win the superbowl... the future becomes the present. You do whatever it takes to win it. If you're one piece away, and you have the chance to get that, you do it. Ty Law, just might be it. Also I don't think he's necessarily risking the future by signing Law instead of Allen. Allen is NOT the long term solution. He might fit in this season, but I guarantee you we would get his replacement very soon. If we had Gibril and Law in the secondary, that would be 2 playmakers. Webster has shown that he has a nose for the ball as well. Butler is a question mark, but he's definitely shown that he can at least catch the interception when it comes his way, unlike Allen. That could potentially be a sick secondary, full of playmakers.
  10. The Free Agent market is about to be FLOODED with talent. This might be a unique opportunity that could call to land some great players at discounted prices. If cutting someone like Petigout gave us the chance to grab a discounted star, I think we would have to consider it. It might hurt us in the short term, but 2-4 years from now it could pay off big. I just think we need to consider it and weigh all of our options. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2350202
  11. I dont think that Moss is the caliber of player that Chad Jackson is. I think drafting a WR in the first round this year would be stupid unless we thought we were getting a potential future #1 caliber receiver. Due to Moss's size and lack of too much game experience, I think we should look elsewhere. I think passing on the crop of LB's without a great reason would be a bit foolish.
  12. Why are the players refusing to give in to some of the demands?? It seems as if they are the ones who are getting screwed. They are also the ones that might get locked out? I dont get it.
  13. Here's a link regarding potential cap cuts around the league. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2341755 The only one on that list that I expect not to be a Giant next year is williams.
  14. Anybody know the status of Eric Moore? During camp last year he was supposedly playing great and impressing the coaches. Will he be 100% to start the year? If so, he could be a nice suprise and add some young depth.
  15. 4 PM today is the deadline for a deal to get done. The chances of something happening before then are seemingly very low. This will be an unprecedented offseason for the NFL. Some teams are going to get absolutely killed (redskins for one) while others might benefit. Here are two links that are applicable. The first is about the discussions and implications of what happens when/if the negotiations fail. The other lists the cap space for each team: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor..._len&id=2348970 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2349505 My take on this, is that the Giants will escape relatively unscathed since we are currently under the cap. Since there should be an overabundance of talent hitting the market this year, the price of some of these FA's should drop significantly. Good old, supply and demand. Things should proceed slowly once FA opens up since teams will be feeling their way. Hopefully the EA will be able to take advantage of the situation and land some cheap, quality players to help us get to the superbowl.
  16. I'm just trying to look at it from EA's point of view. He MUST address the secondary this offseason. He won't be content putting the same or potentially a worse secondary (if W.P cant play) out on the field. Drafting rookies to fix holes in the secondary is not the answer. So he's got to upgrade through free agency. Here's a list of FA CB's: http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=211&p=9&c=12&...83&rc=16&pid=30 You will notice that this list is pretty thin. There are very few names above Will Allen's, which limits our options big time. Personally, I'm not a fan of Plummer and I think Azumah will be more expensive than he is worth. I don't think we have too many issues that need to be dealt with: LB - Round 1 FS - Midround pick DT depth - Midrounder #3 WR - Cheap FA or late round picks What else am I missing? The Steelers had arguably the biggest playmaker in all of football in their secondary, if you remember correctly. Its time for EA to go big or go home.... or go big then go home.
  17. I think this was implying drafting him in the 1st round.
  18. This is ripped off a post at Giants.com so i cant verify the credibility: "Driving home from work today, about 5:15p, Sinorice Moss was on. They were asking him about playing with his brother, and he said he would be ok with it, but would much rather be on his own. He has met with 15 teams so far, and the the team that has shown the most interest, basically telling him they want to draft him.. OUR NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!!" --- This fits w/ this plan that I have.....
  19. This site, http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/numbers.asp has the Giants operating at w/ $3 Mill of cap space. That is also using the cap figure of 92. From the latest reports it should be more like 100 this year. Add in the cap space that the Giants have cleared with the latest cuts and I project to be opearating with about $13 million. Please let me know if I'm off on this figure. Ty Law is asking for $10 Mill, which he wont get. I think it will be in the $8 Mill range, although it could drop, remember Clement's price to tag him dropped and I also expect minimal interest in an expensive corner. The only teams that will be interested will be those that think they are only a corner away. I would guess that we need about $2.5 Mill to sign our rookies. This should leave us with enough to sign Clancy and fill in the deep roster spots. I think it's fiscally plausible. This whole plan has yet to be attacked by you guys, I'm still waiting. Let me know if you have issues with these figures or the idea of it all. Since the more I think about it, the more sense it makes... Ive gone ahead and tried to examine the teams that could potentially go after Law. Remember, he will only go to a legit contender so this knocks out teams like Cleveland and Arizona. The contenders: 1. Dolphins - I think Saban is building his team and really expects to compete in a few years. Paying top dollar for a corner doesn't seem to fit with his plan. Also, law said that he thought miami would be a contender if steve mcnair gets trade there. I dont see that happening. 2. Pats - They need a corner and he's played there recently. That said, they have a VERY old team with limited cap flexibility. They also have mutliple needs (s, cb, wr) so I think they will try to get younger and paying top dollar for law doesnt work. 3. SD Chargers - I think this team has the best shot of landing him. Jammer hasn't proven to be a lockdown corner. Their offense is set. They had lots of cap room before signing Brees and/or Rivers, not sure how they are looking right now. They seem to be a safety away from being a real contender, but maybe Law fits into the picture. 4. NY Giants - Great offense. A bit of cap flexibility. Really just a top corner and linebacker depth away from being a superbowl contender. It's EA's last year and he will want to go out big. We will have to wait and see which direction they choose to go....
  20. Obviously this entire team depends on Eli and his getting better. It's something that is on him and the coaches. Personally, I have faith in him. I actually think he will become one of the best QB's in the league very soon. Hes our QB... nothin we can do about it now.
  21. It's not just his size and speed, hes got the skills too. He supposedly would have been a top 5 pick if he stayed healthy. IF the giants determine that his knee is healthy (and in this age of science they can actually judge that stuff) he could be the steal of the draft at 25. One more thing. The Giants are being built to win this year or the next. Most corners at 25 will take at least a year before they can be expected to contribute. He might be the only one with the talent to start from day 1.
  22. 1. I think Law's going to come at somewhat of a discount this year (at least compared to last year) b/c his season was not great. Also, I dont think there are not too many teams will be bidding on him. He's limiting himself to contenders and the only real contender I've heard that was interested in him was the Dolphins. We're closer than they are so I bet he would rather come here. It is New York after all. 2. While Law is obviously not what he once was, he is still a phenomenal corner. Yes, he had a few too many penalties but he did have 10 Int's. I saw quite a few of those and he just knows where the ball is going to go and he makes plays on it like nobody else in the NFL. He would be an unbelievable upgrade over Allen. 3. Who is better or even close to Law that will be cheaper? If I remember correctly, there was a HUGE dropoff in talent after him. By the way, I would rather have Will Peterson in a wheel chair than overpay for Woodsen. 4. I'm going off of what EA said. He told us that he was going to make the secondary better. IMO bringing in new names doesn't necessarily = better. So dumping Allen for Townsend doesn't cut it in my book. Dumping Allen for Law works for me though.
  23. If the aforementioned salary equation is pretty comparable... which team would you rather have? A. Offense: QB- Eli -- Hasslebeck Rb - Tiki, Jacobs Fb - Finn Te - Shockey, Shiancoe OL - Same as last year WR - Plax, Amani, Williams/Jennings/Taylor Defense: DE - Strah, Willie Joe, Clancy, Osi --- Tuck, Dvoacek/Robbins, Jolly LB - Torbor, Pierce, Emmons/Howard -- Blackburn, Moore CB - Law, Webster -- Joseph, Will P., Deloach S - Gibril, Butler/Blue OR B. QB- Eli -- Hasslebeck Rb - Tiki, Jacobs Fb - Finn Te - Shockey, Shiancoe OL - Same as last year WR - Plax, Amani, decent #3 via FA -- Taylor, Late round Picks Defense: DE - Strah, Willie Joe, Clancy, Osi --- Tuck, Dvoacek/Robbins, Jolly LB - Torbor, Pierce, Peterson -- Emmons, Round 2 pick?, Blackburn, Moore CB - Allen, Webster -- Round 1 Pick, Will P., Deloach S - Gibril, Butler/Blue Personally, I'd much rather have the team that has Ty Law instead of Will Allen... but then again Will Allen has scarred be beyond repair.
  24. Why save up for a big play at OLB when the draft is absolutely STACKED at this position and we are pretty much guaranteed our choice of 3-4 very good lb's at #25. Here's another way to put it, does: Allen + Julian Peterson + Decent 3rd WR = Ty Law I'm referring to salaries. I think Law would be cheaper than those 3.
  25. How about this. Which of those guys would you not want to take? Is there anybody there that if we were locked into LB in round 1 and there was only 1 of those guys left, you think it would be a mistake to draft him?
