  1. Yep, I can easily see this fanbase loving 15 years for him to get his shit together. Maybe make us good in the first 7, maybe even a SB that we lose and then give him another 8 years to get it really right. The first half of that story sounds like the Fassel era. I can only imagine what our fanbase would be like if the Chin came in and didn't create instant magic. Please cue Jack right here and let the hatin' begin. This is the dumbest, piece of shit article ever. First, the only thing the Cowher might like is that we have heritage owners, but TC just won the SB a few years ago and now we treat him like he's got VD. You think Cowher will get that long of a leash if he doesn't pull a Lombardi? Dumb plan, so let's move on... My guess is in a couple of year's, we may very well see Spags back here. Not next year, maybe not the next.
  2. I'm not a fan of any of those suggestions. First, if Gilbride gets an offer, he's gone. He's only not an HC because the superbowl run closed out a bunch of opportunities. Two, if he gets an offer, you can bet he's gone and I'm sure he'd love to be back in Cali. Three, if he does go, we don't need and won't soon adopt a west coast offense. I'd say we'll be looking for someone who runs a Norv Turner-like offense, who that is, I have no idea and neither to you.
  3. Coughlin is fine, made a bad hire...sometimes you don't need to hire within the Giants family Gilbride, who cares? My only question is..."does Pepper Johnson have the chops and can Tom afford to fail?" My answer is "no," but then again we need someone with vision for our D and this fan base will not go for anything less than the pressure package. One other slight on Pepper is that he also seems to favor the 3-4 by virtue of training, we are not right for that at all.
  4. RC is okay, not bad. Not sure if I saw any genius when his hand wasn't being held by a legendary coach. How about we find someone else who believes in a pressure package like Spags. There must be someone else out there that doesn't believe in soft zones and has the balls to risk. I don't know if Jim Johnson was the best or worst thing for the Eagles, but one thing's certain: when it came time for his protege to bring some balls to our team, it made the difference. If we did get such a person, would we even have the people for it? no Four Aces package anymore? No DT worth a shit? I don't envy Jerry Reese.
  5. I don't hate Gilbride and our WR's only matured this season. It was the D. If we were going to exit him, it would have been done all at once, I believe. If he were hired away, then I would assume the TC's original promise upon being hired would hold true: that we would have an east coast offense. Something not west coast, short pass, but more power running, etc. Who that OC would be, well, who knows?
  6. all this will pretty much be moot if the Boys manage the big win, like they're showing up to know in the 2nd. The damn Cowboys, they can't beat us so they'll f' us by winning. I hate them...almost as much as the Beagles. Oh yeah, let Sheridan go to the booth, I don't care, but we've already shown some communication problems in the secondary, so I don't know if that won't make things more difficult.
  7. We're not losing to the Skins, everyone calm down. We're going to win the next two and maybe Minnesota and that's that! This fanbase is as wishy washy as our D.
  8. someone gerry-rig a Delorean and let's get Spags back ASAP. Whatever our D is doing is horrible. The talent is so-so and the scheme is crap. One man did make that much of a difference, we are shockingly bad.
  9. Beating the Eagles is huge. Beating them is the ticket, the the Skins who are likely crushed from yesterday and then the Vikings, who (with some luck) may even be sitting people by then and we have an easier rode to get into the tourenment. Now if we make it, I find it highly unlikely that we'r e the team to outdo the Saints in the playoffs, but we'll see: our team's been there and handled that and they are new to playing one week beyond the start of the playoffs, so we'll see.

Didn't see it on the Jacobs run Did see the Smith catch that wasnt a legal catch barber's fumble was properly overturned. Some days you get the calls; some days you don't. I'll take it. We swept the Boys, now we need an Eagles win...it's been a while and they've kicked the shit out of us.
  11. Tiki has a right to his opinions and its funny how it can seem like sour grapes. Think of it this way, had he not retired, we may have always relied on him, never developed Eli, and the SB may have always eluded us. I loved him but he's gone, gave us some good stuff and I'll always cheer for him, but know that he's speaking his mind. Hell, on HBO Inside Football, Phil Simms complained about being cut after a Pro Bowl season and scoffed at loyalty to the Giants. And that was from St. Phil no less.
  12. Actually, I agree with you on this one 100%. I think that we're going straight up on the front line and I see little variation in the scheme. I don't know what Spags did differently in the overall, but one thing's certain, I don't see our DT's in the backfield. I also think that Fred maybe never fully healed from microfracture surgery.

    10-6

nothing will dictate more than our lack of pressure up the middle. can't tell whether it's scheme or personnel, but something isn't happening. We're good on the edges, but when it comes to up the gut: we don't get after it like we used to...my guess is age and wear.
  14. and...we're back. This thread is dopey. TC isn't the player and I don't know if I think the overall team is strategically unsound. Our secondary players do not feature TC at Free Safety. Our WR's don't make clutch catches and the first 5 games were, well, you know... Tom may have become more player friendly, but then again Mangina isn't player friendly and fines for bottled water haven't galvinized their team. Perhaps TC has gotten softer? I don't know that, but I do know that our playcalling on both sides has been sketchy. Even when we have the correct calls, I estimate the totality of our defensive quagmire stems from 0 pressure on the QB except for blitz packages and even then...
  15. this is just the way of things, you're up and your down: happens to every team. We have talent and we're not executing and that's that! We really need an impact WR, defenses are just different with us now and Eli has been playing well most of the time, but he's best if he throws to a really tall WR, not a spot passer in most cases. The D just looks worn down. You only have so many years and so I think we're just showing signs of not just reloading our D but reworking it from coaches on through to personnel. We won't be in the playoffs this year and if we do make it, it won't be for long. I'll bet yesterday will be our back breaker. I'll still be watching with a degree of hope, but I won't be on pins and needles because from here on out, we might just be spoilers for a really good team that takes us lightly. Of course, I don't know another way to take us since scoring for us is a slow and painful process.
  16. Can't blame Gilbride for WR who aren't getting open: Eli is holding the ball searching. Eli seems to only be able to throw to open WR's (wide open) for the most part, though I did like his TD to Smith, that was in a tight spot...not his normal placement. At least he's realizing the shorter WR can take worm burners. Also, we're blitzing on D and getting nobody coming free. Our pressure package is not getting much push. I see AP on the line and others getting stuffed up, always being picked up. We need more inventive blitz schemes that overload, kind of like the Rex Ryan is able to dial up. Sheridan is a bozo and if he's not then he's not a good leader and if it's not that then Fred Robbins and co. are out of gas or something...
  17. Let's not get too crazy just yet. It's well enough time to worry, but not all out panic.
  18. I think we're all worried now and with good reason. I am really underwhelmed by Reese compared to EA. Neither of them great, but at least EA had a sense of what we needed. Reese merely inherited a SB team and a ring for it. That ring is Accori's and I'm thinking specifically about our WR situation...just unacceptable...keeping Sinorce Moss is a fiine example...I don't care if he was Jerry Rice all through training camp, that has never translated into his game and he's simply the worst returner ever.
  19. At this point Jack, I don't defend anyone on our defense, not Web, not Osi, none of them. I think the LB's are made to look bad, but zone schemes can do that when your LB's don't do well in space and have a leaky secondary. The LB's are not dazzling and even with Boley in there, I'm not highly convinced. I'm a litle more concerned about our front 4 not getting pressure though. Quiet year for the DE's. More importantly, I'm also worried more about Safety and our overall poor tackling. I echo your previous post, I'm not sure where to begin. I'd say it starts up front though and I don't mean blitzing.
  20. 1. some of our greatest defensive success was when we singled up on WR's and that's because we had Sam, we had Web, we had RW and we could play more than this zone which isn't working 2. Kenny Phillips is not the difference, but CC Brown is not good...almost always out of place. 3 No DL pressure, not sure why, but we're flat here. Either Fred and Co. are out of gas or we deploying them in obvious ways. 4. The running game is easy to understand, we're in trouble because they can stack and move the LB's up. The problem is that we're giving up on Jacobs too soon and it's time for a 3 back rotation, like we did with Earth, Wind, and Fire. 5. jerry Reese, like all genius GM's, has lost sight of the obvious in the passing game: you manage the cap by growing your own through the draft, but we only got over the hump by getting a big name FA: P. Burress. 6. Eli has never been an accurate passer and many of his big passes to Burress required all of Plax's height to grab them. Without them he can through pretty balls that aren't catchable. 7. Sheridan may be a bad fit as the DC, might have been a great LB coach, but as a total strategist, he's not good and not getting better. 8. In becoming a more player friendly coach, TC may have lost his teeth too. Older players like Tiki and Strah complain, get their way, and then we go in decline. Perhaps the SB was the fruits of TC's methods and everything else we've gotten has been from that change? I also think Osi's been flat this year, so I don't know how to fix all of this at once and I'm not sure if we can beat top flight teams. One thing's certain, what we're doing isn't working and I for one cannot believe the amount of points we're allowing: it's embarrassing.
  21. I'm kind of with Jack on this, so even though I've often besmirched him for being a broken record, I think his critique is on solid ground.
  22. Although I agree with much of Jack's post here, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop...the part where the losses are all Pierce's fault and Chase Blackburn just cured cancer.
  23. Let's not get all overly alarmed yet. 1. If you recall, Spags first two big losses spurred our change from loose zone coverage to man schemes 2. Sheridan is a new DC and there were going to be some bumps...ours have been against two good throwing teams 3. Gilbride's always been known to be pass happy, so that's function of TC reeling him in a bit 4. Eli's play has been sketchy and that's because of the deep passes that he's not good at and our WR's haven't helped at all. 5. If you look at Eli's past work he was good with Plax because Eli's accuracy on the deep and touch passes is not so great...we should avoid those on 3rd and short 6. There's a lot of season left and we'll right the ship: the question isn't will we get on track, but what happens in the playoffs against those top flight teams when we see them again?
  24. I suppose it only takes an ordinary offense to beat the Cowturds then? It's already been a pleasure beating you, now get your shinebox.
