  1. No, I wouldn't say he's better with 4 years in. Of course Eli inherited a much better team (offensively) than Phil. Never the less, if I had to have one, I'm not sure Phil isn't the one for me. Yes, Eli has had his big win (thnk goodness), but he also has had some shaky games and has been been throwing to a huge WR, so his touch passes have been fleeting. I think Phil was more durable and was more of a leader and he could throw (though he also got tipped at the line a bit), never the less, if I had to, I'd pick Phil even though (after 4 years) he was still somewhat behind Eli's curve, oh but did he come on and it'll take Eli leading the team through another huge season to be really competitive. I doubt we'd have done worst with Phil than we did with Hos in the SB, so I believe he'd win two in that career.
  2. Sorry you don't care Canada, perhaps we could talk about the reality of where Shockey should get traded to...oh wait, that's another hypothetical. I say that Phil could have done the same job and that I'd still take him right now. He was strong, a good passer, and played well in some big games. Phil didn't event have the playoff experience that Eli had going into this season. I don't dislike Eli, but I don't remember the light coming on for Phil, I just remember him not getting hurt as frequently. I did think that Phil showed more pocket guts though.
  3. It's close and the age of Giants fans may factor into these opinions. Obviously Phil has the longevity and a ring and an MVP; the kid has 2/3 of it thus far. Thoughts? PS There's nothing else to talk about anyways, might as well...
  4. It's funny that we share a common bond when it comes to the response to our SB victory. I especially like the one where the co-worker just simply says, "unbelievable." I can live with that, it's funny and the exasperation of people (about our win) is a riot. I just don't care for the indignant attacks (especially in public), it's not like we won because of the tuck rule. I find it's Cowboys fans, more than Packer fans, Tampa fans, even Pats fans that are still up in arms because they thought it was in the bag. Boy oh boy, now that we're getting closer (and I've had to listen to this trash), I hope we do it again. I know it's a tall order, but please...I hope we repeat and I have to hear it twice as often. Long live Eli!
  5. Why are Dallas fans so damn predicatble. They're spoiled by over exposure; they're spoiled by favorable commentary; they're spoiled by unrealistic Madden ratings; and finally, they're delusional about a past that is already so far in the rear view mirror that (if it were us) we'd still be bragging about Phil Simms. Get over yourselves Dallas, we beat you, that's it. The other day I was walking through Wal-Mart (insert hillbilly jokes here) and my two year old son was wearing a giants t-shirt and so was I, some Dallas bozo yelled from one aisle over "Giants suck." I gave him "the look" and ignored him, he persisted again. I said, "enjoy your off season, we'll settle it pretty soon." He yelled, "we were robbed and you guys suuuuckkkkk!" I was nearly compelled to activate his dental plan, but I was with my boy and seeing how we was an employee, I did mention it to the manager of the watch. Never the less, I would wreck another Giants fan for being that much of a douche, but thankfully, most of us are grounded in our own self-loathing of our team more than antagonism of teams we've most certainly beaten. I hate Dallas and its fans; I don't care for the Philly experience either, but at least they only hope to win; they don't demand it after they've lost.
  6. Gorilla, seeing your pics on your sign in makes me feel like smoking again. That chick in the gloves is bangin' (regrettably not bangin' me). Keep up the visual feast. G
  7. My favorite memories of Strah are a number of games while we still were only so-so, he could be a major force (and was) in many a' competition. It was fun watching him best one tackle after another. The team wasn't good, but he was still totally full of energy and enthusiasm, so it was fun to watch. They should retire that number and Carsons. These are standout players; so was Phil and I don't believe he went to the pro bowl times.
  8. This is the only way to go. It's not like we dominated the league. If he returned and we didn't do well, he'd have to take his last breath on the field and the smell would not be sweet. I feel that this is a smart thing and though I miss him already, I wouldn't pay him 8M. He's good, but he'd been hurt in recent years and who knows how this would play out. The good teams don't hold on too long and that's the nature of things. The fact that he was ours (and only ours) as well as a HOF'er and was with us to win a championship is huge. As much as I love TIki (despite himself), he wasn't part of the championship and he gets notable mentions not unlike Rodney Hampton or Rob Carpenter, but Strahan was part of the total package for us...they weren't. Thanks for the laughs Mike, I'm guessing he's soon to announce his reporting job or role on Best Damn.
  9. I hope (en route to the playoffs) we win the East this time. Sounds positive; me thinks Dallas will (again) be our crucible.
  10. Easy to get all hyped up. We need to have some more consistency all the way around. All the big hype may obscure how tenuous our road to the SB was in the regular season alone. If Eli regresses, if Gilbride's success was fleeting, or if Strah does retire and we lose some ground on that side, well then all this is out the window.
  11. Super Bowl XLII Champions DVD Item# G-22833 Price: $24.99 Own the most anticipated and watched sporting event of the year. Complete with highlights from the regular season, playoffs and the big game itself. The 2008 release will contain over 3 full hours of Super Bowl coverage and behind the scenes action. DVD cover image may vary. If this is the one you're referencing, I have it and it's not the complete games by any means. Perhaps we're all talking about two separate DVD's?
  12. Yeah, I ordered the one that's been on the Giants site and it's an abbreviated season review. I thought that I was ordering the one that would contain the entire SB. The one I got was okay, but leaves a lot to be desired. I'm so bummed. Oh well, I've got tons of other Giants memorabelia,
  13. That's bordering on too heavy for that role to be an effective receiver. I like Boss and he didn't seem to have problems at last season's weight. I'm gonna need to see him not gain anymore weight unless he built up to build down a bit for the season.
  14. Because of SHock's early career production, other teams try and account for him. Like him or not, sad that you thought he'd be more and he's not, he's still one of the better one's in the league and he draws attention. We also didn't account for losing him this offseason. Getting rid of him to make everyone feel better that we showed out most beligerant child how to behave, well that's a poor excuse for deep thinking. Keep him, field other offers and don't accept anything that isn't outstanding. One thing's for sure though: Shockey doesn't retire a G-man. Too bad, I really liked his nastiness early on; should've left him the way he was...
  15. We haven't prepared for the loss of Shockey; he's a big part of our normal offense and most importantly, TE is currently a strong suit for us. I don't believe that we're going to get an offer we can't refuse for him. Besides, he's still Jeremy Shockey and this team and its fanbase wants him back here. I'm skeptical that he'll retire a Giant, but then again I would have said that about Howard Cross too.
  16. Maybe one of our posters put picture of he and his similar looking Shockey buddies on the Internet saying, "guess who I met in New Orleans last night."
  17. That level of detail is impressive; I don't know what you would do with that stuff, except lose sleep. Now if he wants a real challenge of film breakdown, then I encourage him to breakdown the film from or playoff loss to SF a few years back (which 212 showed a few Mondays ago; ruined my night...again).
  18. I've always thought both were dicks whether they were one or two of the same
  19. I don't mind if this survey shows the G-men as "not the favorite" of NY/NJ. Frankly, I don't care that much because that's a survey of New Yorkers. I'm a rabid G fan and I'm not a New Yorker. In fact, like many Giants fans, I'm a transplant that still holds true to where he came from and so that survey doesn't accurately measure popularity, only reported numbers from a limited survey for a limited area. SHould the Giants be New York/New Jersey's team, sure: the Bills have never won it and the Jets haven't won it since most of us where still ballbaggers.
  20. There will be no shopping of Nande, he's a stud. I'd take him over D. Hall. As it goes, I wouldn't mind Hall, but not for a king's ransom. Remember the moves that the Raiders are making will continue to be there undoing. They just don't manage the cap or their staff very well. I'm thrilled to see them impload, but think it's quite unfortunate for their great fan base. Be happy that Reese isn't making impulsive moves. I like his style and were built to last a while not just be a fart in the wind. This coach, this GM, and this DC could be a good thing for a while.
  21. Kerry Collins had the aforementioned SB as well as the Minnesota game. But let us not forget the 49er's game when it was a lack of rotation on the DL that kept us from handling the moves of Garcia and TO. It was also KC who drove us right into the lead against the Boys on MNF and it was Matt Bryant that got us started on the 40 with the dopey kick out of bounds. I can't tell you how much I came to like Collins and now I see great value in Eli. He was already worth his money. As for Collins, he was instrumental in helping us develop an offense which we hadn't had sine Phil and the gang. Now we have an east coast offense as opposed to that mock-west coast nonsense. In any event, this is the first real back up we've had since Kerry came in behind Kent Graham or Dave Brown or one of those sad sacks.
  22. Could you root for this team if Al rooted for it? I mean really, think about it, would you change teams. I stuck with the team when George Young gave Dave Brown a contract. I also stayed with the team when it hired Ray Handley and Dan Reeves. Of course, it wasn't Reeves fault that George saddled him with shitty QB's. I even forced myself to love Fassel despite himself. So if it were your G-men, and I've never rooted for another team, can't even play with them in Madden (thank goodness I live in Ohio now, I dont have to fight to many people to play with the G), would you switch until Al kicked the bucket?
  23. Brent Alexander was aging when we got him; that was evident in his abilities. What's the age difference between them when they signed with the G? It's almost the same and I think we should recognize this as a stop gap measure. Yes, it's true enough that the G shouldn't overpay for Gibril, however we're already quite weak in the secondary and with the losses of Torbor and Mitchell too, we have a lot of potential weak spots (as of right now). It can't be overlooked that Sam Madison who was very good for us will yet again be another year older. This is not the end of the world however we face TO twice a season and so having strong play from our safeties is key. There's no doubt that Knight will be decent against the run, but it's the pass you must worry about.
  24. Sammy Knight is Brent Alexander's older brother... this is a weird move.
  25. Well, Jerry Reese has to spend money on someone, right? I agree with not breaking the bank on Gibril or Torbor, but we need some help in the D. I might not have let Ward go though, but a three headed monster might be too much to handle. Will we keep Droughns?
