  1. In retrospect; the way we played defense against the Colts earlier in the season might have worked against the Packers later in the season. Green Bay simply doesn't have a running game, its a committee of average college rbs. Then again, I'd rather have Joseph Addai & Donald Brown run all over us than a group of nobody's from GB.

when you lose the turnover and field position battle on a weekly basis, its hard to beat ANY team let alone ones we would classify as good. The Giants were in every game but Indy and Green Bay, and not surprisingly those teams had the two best quarterbacks we played all year. I think part of the problem in those games was poor scheming by Fewell, but this defense is desperately in need of playmaking ability at linebacker and while I like every player starting in the secondary, there is not much they can do against a Manning or Rodgers without Tuck and Osi generating a consistent pass rush. All that said, this season will be remembered for the turnovers and what could have been had they taken better care of the football.

  2. Justin Tuck is simply too good to be true and yet every sunday he shows up and is a force that must be dealt with because he is never contained. The kind of player people on this board would have said why didn't we draft him and then change the 2005 draft to prove we could have drafted him instead of the lame duck player we usually draft and then release three years later.

Justin Tuck is the reason why we look forward to the draft, in hope of finding another.

  3. I can easily look back at games this season and say about a third of the interceptions are simply balls that were tipped or popped up that turned into interceptions. There were even a couple of passes that Eli simply threw because there was a remote chance of them being completed. I know he has has thrown too many balls that were simple horrible and should never have been attempted. Eli is a bit of a gunslinger like that and i doubt it will change. The turnovers this year were ridiculous and can guarantee it will change.

Eli seems like a really nice guy. Personality wise, he's a great guy to have as the face of your franchise. I'll even go as far to say that he was the right choice in that draft. Philip Rivers is beginning to look like the Dan Marino of this generation. As a matter of fact he is just that in my opinion until he wins a big game. Not to mention his temperament, which I'm sure the media here would have a field day with. Then you have Big Ben. At best, he's a moron. There was the motorcycle incident and then TWO legal issues with sex crimes. Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt the first time, which I did, the fact that he would put himself at risk for another problem makes him a schmuck. But I'm not going to sugarcoat this year for Eli. Your point about the inexperience of our receivers is absolutely valid and is most likely a major contributor to the interceptions. I also agree that they possess tremendous upside and I think Nicks coupled with a healthy Smith could eventually be the BEST receiving duo in the league. However, leading the league in turnovers will prevent you from beating good teams and almost always keep you out of the playoffs. There were times this year where I think he was just trying to make a play and do too much. But there were times where he just made downright terrible decisions. As fan, I'm optimistic that it will get better. It's been better in the past for him. For all the people here who intensely dislike the guy I just say this. Take a look at the quarterbacks this franchise has had between Phil Simms and Eli Manning. It could be a lot fucking worse.

  4. You're getting pissed off at a QB that will give his receivers the benefit of the doubt. Last I checked that was a good quality. Only problem is his receivers are in the range of second and third year of NFL experience. It looks really bad now but these guys are only going to get better. Think of it as as the maturing of WR's in the likes of Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald. That is the kind of talent we have at WR as they develop.

Dont forget that they are developing. Nobody is regretting giving Eli Manning a fat contract because they did it twice without blinking. This season was a cakewalk compared to his rookie season, keep that in mind. Talking about paychecks is about as close we can get to a comparison to players in the NFL. They get paid to do what the average man can't. Nobody is regretting paying Eli because every QB before him was a slide down a hill full of shit.

Fair enough. But you have to admit, the Mara's blew their load on Eli after the Super Bowl win. They made him the highest paid QB in the league because of that win. I think they dropped the ball. I mean, I understand it in the marketing sense. Eli is a well rounded, likeable guy. They found the face of their franchise. Eli is the guy that will bring the Giants some respect and monetary stability. I just think it was a knee-jerk reaction to an unbelieveable super bowl run. If you don't think the Mara's are regretting giving him all that money today........think again. Blame the coaches and the system all you want but they won a Super Bowl with those coaches AND that system. What's the excuse now? If you ask me, the players lied down like dead dogs....and Eli "the leader" should shoulder most of the blame.

  5. I think we're beyond the point of picking our starting QB. I realize however that if you play a lot of video games you have the belief you can still draft Johnny Unitas or Joe Montana to QB your team. So being that this isn't a video game and we can't go back and pass on a Eli Manning in 2004 and pick up Aaron Rodgers in 2005 or anyone else for that matter lets stick with some fucking reality for a change.

I'd rather have my QB throwing more touchdowns than interceptions. Its a very small thing but it is a possibility.

But..........FUCK ELI TOO!!!!!!!! I think it's time to come to the realization that he's just not that good......or at the very least, highly overrated. Spare me the "but he has a Super Bowl ring" excuse. You know who else has a Super Bowl ring? Let's see.........Jim Plunkett, Joe Namath, Jeff Hostetler, Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer. I think when it's all said and done, Eli will be listed amongst those one hit wonders. I'm sick of his "Awww shucks" expressions on and off the field. Sorry guys, I just don't like him.

PS: Aaron Rodgers: 6 years, $66 million

Eli Manning: 6 years, $103 million

    Who would YOU rather have?

  6. There are a hundred things that could be done to improve this team. Tynes is by far not the worst we've had on kickoffs. Some rather hard facts to really understand is that not every kick can be a touchback. Now once you really understand that you lose the expectation that every kickoff should or could be a touchback.

First season in the NFL for Matt Dodge, aside from all the fuckups; the kid has talent and continues to improve. Don't count him out just yet. If you had patience to develop a QB, should have patience to develop a punter.

  7. Noticing and finding someone to do the job are two different things. They've tried the draft and free agency and struck out repeatedly.

Yep, for three straight years, the defense fell apart at the end of the season. Three different coordinators. Two seasons with good backfields, one with no backfield. The consistent problem: over-reliance on a defensive line, and inadequate LBs.

Fewell's scheme couldn't make it any more obvious.

Reese is not a stupid man, he'll notice.

  8. What more did you want him to do? Score some touchdowns? He could very well be considered our best run stuffer and that is on a defense that is ranked in the top 10.

I like Antrel Rolle, I think he's a solid signing....but there's no way he played Pro Bowl caliber this year. O'Hara shouldn't have even been in the running.

  9. I think teams simply figured out how to beat what we have been putting out on the field this season. Its not the first time this has happened. Now when they find a linebacker they want to keep out there for three downs and not be a liability, well then this might stop happening.

Teams are beating us deep because we're bringing in our safeties to stop the run who happen to be better than our linebackers at the job.

  10. Last I checked we have still won more games than we have lost. So Tom can win with this team. All we can do is hope that we make it into the playoffs. If we don't make it, far from the worst case scenario for this team.

Don't forget that we saw a lot of miscommunication between Eli Manning and his receivers this season. Most of our offense I would describe as second season starters, first season for Bradshaw. If you're concerned about the Bradshaw fumbles and think Coughlin can't fix it, well you are wrong. He didn't come in and bring Tiki Barber down from 9 fumbles in one season to zero but he cut them in half and then in half again. This was Ahmad Bradshaw's first season as a starter, I'll go out on a limb and say he will not fumble this much next season if he can start next season. Coughlin will fix it, just don't expect overnight solutions to long term problems.

Perhaps there isn't a guy who can win with this team, but Tom isn't either. So what do you do?. Rebuild?. I can't see that as an option right now. The brass might want to look at a fresh face and a differenet perspective with this team before breaking them up. it's the easier option right now. Coughlin really can't argue the point right now.

  11. The problem Sean Payton had in NY was there were so many players especially on the offensive line that were barely average. Sean Payton would terrorize the league with the squad we have now and they're only getting better.

What the fuck did Sean Payton do in New York apart from one decent season?. Fine it worked out for him in New Orleans where he has some of the best talent around, but instead of your typical bullshit "look what they're doing now, and how wrong are we now", let's remember what happened back then, that fassel had to pull the plug on payton because his fucking offense had gotten so predictable, and fassel was right by the way. How many times can you have guys in motion on offense, just to go back to their original spot, before teams figure that out?.

  12. Hmm Coughlin fired after this season, I want a break from football after they decide when they plan on playing football again. Replacing Tom Coughlin is just a bad idea. If your memory of NY Giants Football starts with the 2004 season, then firing the head coach is a reasonable solution. If you've been watching even longer and still think its a reasonable solution, you have already forgotten the thrill of a coach coming in and installing his system (not pretty).

Quite simply, there just isn't a better candidate on the market that can win with this team.

  13. Pro bowls are popularity contests, have very little to do with actual time played during a season. Check last season, O'Hara was there for reasons. He gets voted in this year because he was there last year and nobody else put up a standout season and got recognized for it.

BTW guys, continue to rip him for finally coming back from an injury that has kept him out all season and sucking the games he's played.

  14. I seriously doubt that. Replace the most successful coach since Parcells and with who?

The Cowher talk is bullshit. Jack supports it and that should be enough proof for anyone.

This Sunday will determine who our coach is next season. Take it to the bank.

  15. Coughlin is equal opportunity, he gets in everyone's face. Just so happens this was a moment the camera crews decided to capture. Stop bringing up the bench Dodge and replace him with someone else because they looked around before the beginning of the season, the choices didn't get better as the season continued. The ideal of course would have been to find Feagles replacement before he retired and instead everyone crossed their fingers he'd come back every year like he has for the last four years.

Coughlin handled that poorly IMO. Our punter is not good, but he only gets a few plays a game. There were other situations out there where other players made screw ups and Coughlin didn't confront them coming off the field to that extent. Phillips "whiff" cost a TD, Manningham's fumble caused a momentum shift. Jacobs dropped an easy pass that was a first down. Aaron Ross pulled a Michael Johnson and cost us containing Vick back at the ten when he ran up to the line. Coughlin is claiming that he did tell special teams to watch out for the onside kick, so why not blast them because they took off downfield before the kick instead of holding the line. Hell the crowd didn't yell enough so why not confront them?. No, every event that led up to the punt had nothing to do with anything, it was the kids fault alone, so let;s make an example of him. Just like Kiwi a few years back, that was wrong too. Coughlin does these things to save face, hell in the press conference he actually said it was his fault for what Dodge did!. Who does he think believes that after watching him berate the kid.

Dodge should have been moved to the practice squad for the season and see what he does with a years practice and if he ended up being good then fine. But the Organization has to hold it's hands up here, especially Tom, because for the entire year, this kid has been a spectacle, and he should have been replaced weeks back. I hold my hands up, I said give him a chance and I'm wrong.

  16. The answer is we still would have lost that game. Momentum shifted in the second half, looked like the Giants thought the game was over in the first half and never came back out of the locker room for the second half.

It was a horrible punt, no doubt about it....but to think they can bring in somebody better tomorrow is ludicrous. If they could, why haven't those 7 teams with punters with worse net averages done so? A HOF punter retired and we have a rookie, who has been pretty good since his shaky start, including, as VG points out, his earlier punts yesterday. That's life in the NFL.

And here's a question to ponder: if Dodge had punted out of bounds, do you think we would have won in OT? Obviously, we'll never know but my guess is we'd have had a 50/50 chance if we won the toss and almost no chance if we lost it.

  17. Must admit I rather enjoyed Coughlin coming over to yell at him. Nobody looks at Coughlin when he's yelling at them I noticed. Reminds me back when Darnell Dinkins made a catch on third and failed to get the first down and then yelled at Fassel for not going for it on 4th and 2.

Would have loved to see him try that one with Coughlin. Coughlin would have decked him right then and there.

I don't put the blame on Dodge for the game though. He did not let the Eagles score the four touchdowns to get back into the game. Dodge made a mistake just like everyone else did in the second half.

  18. Good news guys, Duane Reade is handing out free tampons for ya this morning. The Giants are 9-5 and still can make it into the playoffs. Would have loved to have won this game and made the road easier, but when in twenty years have we watched them cruise into the playoffs? At least a dozen teams and a few thousand fans wish they were in our position right now.
