Who are our top 7 building blocks on the roster?

Honestly, I'm not sure you can find seven. On offense, I'd say Pugh and Cruz are the only two. Everyone else is either coming off a subpar season (Eli, Beatty) already out the door (Nicks), or too injured.

On defense, I think we need to lock Prince up. He may not be a top-5 corner but he's definitely top ten. Rolle is young enough that we can build short term with him. Will Hill if he keeps his head out of his ass, and Jon Beason.

JPP? He's had one and a half good seasons out of four. This is a "show me" year for him.

I kind of agree--although I'm not ready to give up on Manning.

I'd love to say Joseph and Beason--but they aren't signed. And Beason, while still really good, isn't exactly an infusion of youth. I think of him more as a Sam Madison type--experience to surround with youth so that they learn. I know he's 29, but with the injuries, he's an old 29; wouldn't make a 5-year plan with him.

Hankins would be nice, but he hasn't shown too much yet. Will Hill has a ton of growing up to do, if he ever does.

We're in an odd place--we're either too old, or very young in most positions. It's really hard to tell who is going to be a "building block."

Oh yeah, I'm not giving up on Manning yet either. But neither would I extend him right now. He's lead the league in picks the past two seasons and has a new OC. I know the popular position now is to kick the can down the road in regards to his cap hit, but I think you pay him now and see what you have moving forward after this season.

I hear all the Joseph love and honestly, I just don't see it. I don't think he's a bad player but he's not a top 5 DT, but that's what he's expected to be paid like. I have a hard time remembering his big plays during his Giants tenure... and we had to bring in Jenkins, Patterson, and Rogers to improve the run D even when he was a starter. He's not bad but I wouldn't give him more than 4 million per season... that money can be better spent elsewhere.

Ok--I follow you. Knowing now that the cap might go up this year, it doesn't make as much sense to extend him as it did for me. We get some of that money off the cap going forward AND his cap percentage goes down. That's a win-win for us.

Joseph is one of those guys that you can put in position and not worry about. He's not a game-changer, and he needs help on the line. Keep him if possible? Absolutely, but not pay him top five.

Anyone else think we should take a run at Jim Harbaugh next season? He is not very gruntled in SF. Wants to renegotiate a 5 year contract. Doesn't like his GM, etc. Be about 10 mill per to get him.

Fuck that guy. He's a good coach but each week it's like watching a third grader on the sidelines.

He's not a huge fan of York either and I can't blame him.

as opposed to what we have now?

Coughlin isn't even close to Harbaugh. TC might argue a call but he doesn't then spit, throw his headset/clipboard, and do an air kick that spins him around in a circle. Oh yeah... and then bitch to the media.

In other words, Couglin doesn't embarass me. Harbaugh would.

i agree harbaugh is a lot worse but TC is definitely embarrassing on the sidelines. he looks like he's about to have a heart attack any time the ball is spotted half a yard incorrectly

i haven't seen him do it much lately, but the gesture he would make to get the fans to cheer, along with the disgusted "come on, you morons" look on his face is the one that really got to me.

As for Harbaugh, he's a turnaround specialist, I think. Those guys run pretty hot so I think 5 year contract with him fulfilling 3 is just about right.

The important word in that sentence is "incorrectly." How many games, Giants or otherwise, have we seen blown calls even after review? With the state of officiating in the league over the last few seasons, a coach has to do a degree of complaining. He just doesn't have to act like a preschooler that isn't going to Dairy Queen.

Apparently Harbaugh wants some input on players acquired. Which I always thought he had, he has at least more input then Singletary did.

Yeah I think 2012 draft was a relative bust for them, even with all those picks. I tend to think Harbaugh is much better on the field than in the GM's room. And even on the field he's still learning clock management, for instance. I think he just wants more money than Jeff Fisher. But he negotiated for 5 years.

complaining is fine. he goes to pieces over very minor things. i don't really care to be honest but we're used to having a petulant child on the sidelines so i would not hold that against harbaugh if we had an opportunity to get him.

i wouldn't mind someone else having a say in personnel decisions either. i have lost a shitload of faith in the front office after some of these head scratching decisions we've made the past two offseasons

Coughlin acts like a petulant child on the sidelines? What games are you watching? Does he make alot of hand motions and occassionally drop an f-bomb when the refs are oblivious to shit 4 feet in front of them? Hell yea... and so does every other HC in the league. Harbaugh is an douchebag. I would not, in any way, shape or form welcome that asshole to the Giants.

3x in a row NFC Championship game. Isn't winning what this is all about? Tuna was kind of a prick too (That should wake up Defiler)

Yea, winning Superbowls (Coughlin x2), not making it to the NFCCG and having nothing to show for it aside from a shitty draft position.

As for Tuna... Well, I refer to him as Prickcells, but it has nothing to do with him getting irate on the field. LOL I don't remember him (or Coughlin) ever being a disrespectful little bitch to an opposing coach or the fans.
