smith-could-replace-toomer.jpgHow highly is second-round pick Steve Smith thought of by Giants brass? High enough that General Manager Jerry Reese has openly stated that Amani Toomer's job could possibly be in jeopardy.

"Our second pick, Steve Smith, he has been catching punts for us in practice and looked pretty good doing it. But we think he can come in and fight for the number three spot right away and battle for the number two if he can grasp the offense quickly enough, which we think he will," Reese said.

Talk about high praise for a player who has yet to play a single down in the NFL. I knew that Smith would be a great addition when the Giants drafted him, but I had no idea that his potential impact would be felt immediately. Perhaps I am counting chickens before they hatch, but I'd have to trust Jerry Reese on this one.

So, what would that mean for Amani Toomer -- or even Sinorice Moss? If Smith was able to secure the number two spot it would obviously bump those two down. My gut feeling is that Toomer, being the team-first guy he is, would have no problem with it. Moss, on the other hand, might be a bit bummed. He was highly thought of coming out of college and if not for some injury problems, would likely be the talk of the town going into this years training camp.

Let not place to much pressure on the kid already. Labling him as "Toomer's replacement" can cause more harm than good. He already has big shoes to fill with the comparison to Ike Hilliard and all(The greatest Giants WR of all-time)

Nem, i read what you said about Hilliard and no offense but you are so off base with that.

And this kid could very well force his way onto the field. He's a very solid wide receiver.

Everyone keeps saying that..But he never played consistently to earned those praises. He had two solid game in his career and everyone thinks he's a warrior? Are you kidding me? Everyone says he fearless going over the middle.. Are we sure about that? Because the Ike that I remember sure did have a bad case alligator arms.

Giants fan are an interesting creature, aren't they? Jeremy Shockey has been more productive than Ike Hillary in their first 5 years. He has been to more Pro-Bowls than Ike ever dreamed off. AND YET, Shockey is a bust and Ike Hillary is a warrior.

Don't forget Hilliard was often injured.

Can you really be that dumb? Seriously, I'm not kidding.

First off Ike had more than 2 solid games in his career, you

should have watched the games. Ike having a bad case of alligator

arms, THE MAN'S SEASON IN 2002 WAS CUT SHORT on a brutal

illegal hit by Brian Dawkins. The ball was 10 feet over his head.

Ike Hillard's Stats

Jeremy Shockey and Ike Hillard played two different positions,

and I sure as hell know Ike would have never laughed after dropping

a touchdown pass.

Yep...Veeeery solid numbers there. That's exactly the type of number i want from my 7th overall draft pick. How can anyone not be satisfied with a 8.9 yards per catch season? I retract my previous statement. Clearly I was wrong by calling him a bust.

That's my point..He was always hurt.

Dude he had his neck broke and then Brian Dawkins hit him with one of the cheapest shots ever in football. He was not always hurt but when he was Nem, he was really hurt. You''re exaggerating.

Right and has Shockey played a full season yet?

I rest my case.

Um what case? Ike was hurt all the time and he's called a warrior. Shockey gets hurt too and he's more productive. However he's a bust? yep, that makes sense...

Good job picking his 2004 stats. What about his other ones?

WHOOPS. Speaking of 7th overall wideouts, would you have rather

had Reidel Anthony who is probably working in a Jiffy Lube in Florida,

Yatil Green who is selling insurance or Rae Carruth? A man who was

found guilty of hiring a hit man to murder his pregnant girlfriend at the time.

You choose Nem, which one would you rather have?

So you expect a wide-receiver to catch a touchdown pass

every single game? Shit, If I wanted to, I'd have a whole arsenal

of Shockey stats to prove you wrong. Since I'm already proving you

wrong, I'll wait a little.

Too bad he isn't one of the choices, can you even read?

Right, and I'm so sure you knew who Tony Gonzalez was

the year he was drafted.

I did... Everyone knew who he was.

My first choice was Walter Jones (Excuse me for a minute...FUCK YOU SEATTLE!!!) But then I wanted Tony Gonzalez. I also wanted the Giants to trade down to get Yatil Green.

Proving me wrong? LOL... yeah, you're doing an excellent job in proving Ike was not a bust.
