Possible Eli Backup? Giants Will Meet With QB Fiedler

Posted Apr 5th 2007 12:22PM by Dan Benton

Filed under: NY Giants, NFC East, New York, NFL Free Agency

jay-fiedler-falcons.jpgThe Giants interest in Jay Fiedler has become an annual thing. Each of the last two offseasons they've had a bit of interest in him but nothing ever materialized. Maybe the third time will be a charm. According to KFFL, citing John Murphy of Yahoo Sports, the Giants will meet with the free agent quarterback in the near future.

John Murphy, of Yahoo! Sports, reports unrestricted free-agent QB Jay Fiedler (Buccaneers) will work out for the New York Giants, according to his agent, Brian Levy.

One thing the Giants have been lacking in recent years was an experienced veteran quarterback to tutor Eli Manning. Instead they've had guys like Jared Lorenzen and Tim Hasselbeck behind him; neither have seen the field more than Eli.

Fiedler is familiar with Giants Stadium, the pressures of New York and the NFL. If they could finally lock him up, it'd be a very solid and very smart move.

makes sense to me...nothing bad could come out of this and Eli needs a guy behind him that can teach him instead of the other way around

Agree Hasselback sucks and Lorentzen is a decent third stringer. OCP needs someone who can show him a thing or two.

so then why did we cut warner again I forgot? wouldn't he have been a better tutor that feidler?

over the past few years do you think Warner could of helped Eli better than Hass?

Because Warner didn't want to stay and be a backup, he wanted a legit shot at being the starter.

I wanted Warner to stay for precisely that reason....thought his even tempered easy going attitude would be a perfect match for OCP. But like Lubeck wrote...he wanted to start. Whatchagonnado? At this point in his career Warner was/is a human sack machine.

yeah and he had his chance to start and he proved he couldn't get it done . How long was he at he helm in Arizona? Either way it doesn't matter now. I was just observing out loud , sorry .

No problem bro', he would have been a decent fit if he did not suffer from the overage boxer syndrome of always thinking that age/experience trumps youth and athleticism. Basically never knowing when to quit....even when they have to carry you out.
