  1. Aaron Ross...was a pretty damn good #3 CB if you compare him to other teams #3. He was certainly good enough to take the 3rd option from another team. There were struggles against #1s, yes, and some #2s got his number...but he was not nearly as bad as what a lot of people made him out to be. That said, with Prince and Hosley coming in, I'm not too concerned about losing Ross. The Giants, with taking Prince, were preparing for Ross's departure. Hosley, is more for depth/insurance given T2's injury.

Jacobs...this is a question mark. David Wilson has a ton of potential...a ton. But he hasn't played a down yet, so let's keep emotions in check here. I truly think the Giants got caught with their pants down on this one...but with Wilson, they yanked them drawers right up without anyone really noticing. We could struggle with the running game again and yours truly wouldn't be surprised. Ware/Brown/Scott...they haven't shown much consistency at all...so I wouldn't exude any more confidence in them over Wilson.

Manningham...similar to Ross in that he was a hell of a 3rd WR. Sure, he had some boneheaded stuff, but at the same time, he had some really impressive stuff too. Again, he had the ability to beat most of the 3rd CBs or S in the league. So he really was of value. I love the R2 pick to replace him. With Cruz's deal coming up, Randel provides some leverage there as well if Cruz asks for too much bank. Either way, I'm comfortable losing Manningham given Randel.

Ballard...this hurts...more for his knowledge of the playbook than anything...which I think is why Pascoe has been given the starting TE spot. Bennett, unless he really impresses, I think is a longshot to stick into 2013. One year deals, to me, are nothing but insurance. Come in, do a good job, hit FA again with an increased value. Good for the player, good for the team. Yeah, there's potential, but I can't say that I'm super excited for the potential here. After all, Bennett got beat out by Pascoe, our 3rd TE last year. That says something.

Thomas...this one surprised me. Given his ST ability and the plays he made in the playoffs...I was all but certain he'd make the team this year. It wasn't just breaking a long return for the WR, but it was the hustle plays that our coaching staff seems to love that Thomas made, like his fumble recoveries. For a 5th or 6th WR, you'd think he could've stuck. I guess between Randel coming in and Hixon returning...there is a number of WRs you have to stick to...but I still might have taken Thomas over Barden and given injury history, maybe even Thomas over Hixon.

  2. We're too thin at the position to just cut him...might he lose his assumed starting position regardless of salary, sure.

That said, he could lose a roster spot due to what other guys do. If Christian Hopkins or Adrien Robinson excel or even prove to be productive given the firepower we have on the outside in Nicks and Cruz, that I think is the only way Bennett is released before next offseason.

  3. From the article on ESPN, it seems the intent is to re-sign him once he clears waivers and put him on IR. I really don't know much about the personnel rules..active roster, regular roster, training camp numbers, etc...but from the sounds of things, this is extremely procedural and that Ballard will be with the team next year...assuming he re-signs and isn't claimed off waivers, which probably won't happen given his injury.

  4. I think different cases deserve different penaltys.

Diehl was more then double the legal limit and has resources to easily get a safe ride hone. He should be fucked and made an example of.

his resources should not be considered legally.

no, he shouldn't have driven drunk...but he should be treated no differently than the next first offense drunk driver.

  5. I thought that the Giants would stick by Ballard given that he fucked his knee in the game and fucked in harder on the sideline trying to get back in the game. ... after all, the Giants have stuck by Chad Jones for all these years since he all but killed himself in the car accident...oh well...Ballard, like Jim said, wasn't playing this year anyhow...and even a mediocre TE should be able to do well given our WR and RB...though, those units took hits this offseason too.

Can't say Wilson is an upgrade over Jacobs or that Randel is an upgrade over Manningham....not yet anyhow.

  6. That's a whole new ball game.

    $2,500 fine

    6 months - 1 year in jail

    25 AA meetings

    5 years probation

Clean as many parks as the age of the victim

1 year of house arrest after everything else

I don't know man. The offense is the same regardless. Dude drove drunk. I don't think that the penalty should be lightened just because he got lucky and didn't kill someone. Likewise, I don't know that someone should get a stiffer penalty when something awful does happen. Furthermore, I don't think the penalty should be heightened simply because he's wealthy and can afford to go a different route by taking a cab or using some limo service. When it comes to the law, I think that there is far too much gray area built in as is.

You're drinking and driving...I think that there should be a pretty consistent penalty REGARDLESS of ACTUAL outcome. The penalty should be assessed based upon what potentially COULD happen.

  7. That's going to cost him some games off, courtesty of the Commissioner. The O line was already the most unsettled unit going into camp. Snee and Bass are the only two I'm sure of. There's competition in every other spot and Diehl is right in the middle of the mix at RT and maybe LT and G, too. Now if he's gone for the first four games, that puts a whole new light on things.

Don't know about missing games on a first offense. I thought it was usually repeat offenders that got the 4 game suspensions. Not saying Diehl won't miss a game or two, cause he might, but I wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion either.

  8. and clutch game winning or tying touchdowns don't give you more fantasy points than other touchdowns. although that would be a cool thing to implement.

Like an extra point or two if the TD is in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd or 4th quarters? I'd like that.

What about a lead changing scoring play being an extra point? Would be nice to reward the game winning FG that lifts a team from losing by 2 to winning by 1...with more than the same points a guy would get for a chip shot on a drive in the 1st qtr that failed to get a TD.

  9. I had both Eli and Romo in my league last year. Eli put up the better fantasy numbers pretty consistently over Romo, though Romo did win a few weeks. Out of the 17 weeks, Romo probably won 5 or 6 of them.

Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Stafford should all be ahead of Eli. Peyton is a bit of a wildcard and a risk. All signs point to the fact he's healthy, but a new system, a new coach, new receivers...I don't know. Just risky.

    I'd take Eli 5th overall.

Cam Newton and Michael Vick...are interesting prospects for their rushing statistics. With the rushing stats...in my opinion, they're kinda cancelled out by the turnover stats coupled with the potential for injury.

  10. I'll take Coughlin.

It's easy to look good when you're DC is Bill Belichick... Parcells hasn't won a single playoff game without him. Not one.

But who recognized Belichick's talent as a coach and who brought him in as an assistant? Don't think that Parcells didn't have a lot to do with that decision.

  11. The only way Osi is a Giant next year, is if he gets injured badly this season and we sign him to a cap-friendly deal that is the highest he's offered. I think Osi is clearly going to follow the money in the offseason, and I just don't see that being us given the players we have to take care of going forward.

  12. The accomplishments by both coaches are easily enough to compare the two. If you want to declare a better coach, I give the edge to Parcells for the sole fact that his coaching tree is MUCH more extensive than is Coughlin's. Add to that the fact that Coughlin is part of Parcell's coaching tree and I think that that alone gives Parcells the edge when comparing the two.

IF Coughlin develops his assistant coaches in the way that Parcells did...AND wins a 3rd SB...then and only then, in my opinion at least, will the disciple surpass the teacher. Of course, this won't be known until years down the road when Coughlin's assistants over the years can truly be evaluated.

  13. If Osi had underperformed on his deal, the Giants may have either cut him to save salary OR asked him to take a pay cut. It happens quite frequently across the NFL. So yeah, Osi has a bit of a point.

However, in this instance, I think Osi played up to his contract. Osi signed a 7-year deal and in those years, salaries have increased quite a bit...so the going rate of a quality DE has increased. That's not the fault of the Giants. Sure, they've tried to pad his salary a little bit by adding incentives, but it's the big extension Osi is looking for.

I think Osi has been paid appropriately thus far. I also believe that Osi should have fired his agent years ago when he was stuck in a 7 year deal. No way in hell, if I'm an NFL player, am I signing a 7 year deal BECAUSE of the ever increasing value of contracts.

So Osi and his agent deserve some fault here for signing the long deal in the first place. What Osi needs to understand is that the Giants look out for the Giants. Giving Osi a huge extension at 10+ million per year just isn't in the best interest of the team because he's the 3rd best DE here.

The Giants MAY have dropped the ball somewhat in not drafting a DE this year. With Tolly gone and Osi gone after the year, it potentially leaves us pretty thin at the position.

  14. I don't imagine the fracture would have too much of an impact on straight ahead speed, but cutting off of it would hurt like a mofo. Or, having it stepped on.

I'm all for them taking it easy with him, but getting Nicks some time with Eli so as not to regress this offseason with their chemistry would be nice. Get Nicks ready for a number of reps during training camp, then sit him through the preseason, except maybe a drive or two. He's far too valuable to our offense to lose for extended parts of the season because we rushed him back to full partcipation too early.

  15. If Henderson comes for vet minimum, and not a dime more in incentives/bonuses or otherwise, I guess I wouldn't complain about our acquiring him for depth. But really, the need just isn't there.

Signing Henderson would (1) stunt the growth of our younger guys by taking snaps from them in practice/games, (2) take opportunities away from the coaches in their evaluations of the younger guys, and (3) add a guy that for all intents and purposes, will be a depth guy anyway behind those we have on the roster.

With Herzlich, Blackburn, Jones...I think we'll be okay at MLB. Boley/Kiwi/Williams/Paysinger at OLB should be just fine.

  16. I only recall Gronk not being able to adjust to a deep ball thrown to him where Chase Blackburn intercepted it.

Could spin that pretty easily to emphasize his toughness playing on a pretty fucked up ankle. As nice of a play as it was for Chase, let's be a bit more realistic here and agree that Gronk's bum wheel had as much to do with that play as Blackburn.
