Yeah, I saw this article yesterday and was gonna post it, but I thought it would be obnoxious to again point out that I explained how this all went down with Manny a long time ago. Anyway, great article by Simmons again, as is anything he writes regarding the Sox. I wonder who the guy was who took off his wedding ring at the Kimmel Show. Pretty funny story, too, about Manny not picking up the tab.

But the bottom line is that the Sox were a better team than the Yankees this year, and that's all that really matters. Regardless, thanks for the congrats. Nevermind- I just went on Ebay and it looks like you can buy a pass for individual games. They are selling in the $30-80 range. Hopefully I can get one for under 50 bucks. I mean, 80 bucks just to party in the parking lot with food and beer that I bought?

I'm going to the game on Oct. 5th. Since I don't have a stadium parking permit, it's my understanding that I can only park at a far away lot and be shuttled over to the stadium. I think I remember hearing that you can't even tailgate in these far away lots. Anybody know if what I'm saying is true, or if there's any way for me to park in the main lots and/or tailgate?

They had an article in the Post today that said he was home in Texas, watching in the dark on a battery powered TV due to the hurricane (somehow I doubt that part). Would be kinda sad...if it wasn't Clemens.

Listen, I said I wasn't trying to stir the pot, and I also said I'm sure the Sox will eventually start talking about a new stadium again, too. What more do you want? The Babe? You guys don't really think that still bothers us, do you? As for fiscal responsibility, they won't be paying for the building and upkeep of a brand new facility during a recession/depression, that's for sure.

1.) Spags needed to bail on all the blitzing and drop more guys back into coverage at some point. Our D was getting shredded. I thought it was over when they stopped us in OT. 2.) Lawrence Tynes needs to be shown the door. I just don't trust him. I'll go with Carney the rest of the year and worry about the future in the off-season. Didn't they sign Tynes to some big contract in the off-season, though? What do you do when he comes back this year? Get rid of Carney? 3.) How many times did you see Eli throw off his back foot today? I counted one, and he completed the pass for a big gain. Instead of bailing on the play and throwing off his back foot now, he steps up into the pocket and finds the open receiver. The guy is now one of the top 5 QBs in the league. Ernie Accorsi was right all along.

:lol: VG, I regard to what you said, I wouldn't be so quick to say that they'll have no problem sellling it out. Initially, in the first season or two, there will of course be a high demand for tickets. This economy is going into the shitter, though, and once the initial novelty wears off, one of the first things corporations start to cut is excessive entertainment expenses. If we end up in a prolonged recession, many of them will dump the luxury boxes for open-air seats with the regular joes. Likewise, the people who are sitting in field level seats next year will move up to cheaper ones, and so on, with middle-class fans going to fewer and fewer games each year. Obviously, a lot of this depends on the success of the team, and they sure picked a bad time to miss the playoffs for the first time in forever. But we saw in the 80s and early 90s that fans are fickle, and if the team isn't winning, the ride to the Bronx, parking, prices in the stadium, etc. all begin to feel like bigger inconveniences.

That's what we've been hearing for the last month or so, anyway, or words to that effect. So why are they tearing it down if it's so hallowed? Money, of course. Do they need the money? I guess that's debateable. Although they have higher revenues, by far, than any other team in baseball, the object of running a business is to maximize profits. I'm sick and tired, though, of hearing about what a special place this is while they're getting ready to demolish it and sell every last chip of concrete to the highest bidder. Not trying to stir the pot here, I'm just interested in hearing the take on this from Yankee fans. Do you think this is a good idea? Do you think the Yankees will lose some of their "mojo" in a new stadium, one that seems to be much less intimate and intimidating? Are you inconvenienced getting to or watching a game in the current stadium? I'm not going to sit here and tell you that the Sox would never replace Fenway, either. They were ready to do it a few years ago, but couldn't make it happen. They then changed course and decided the more fiscally responsible thing to do was improve the current stadium. I'm sure the subject will again come up in the future. I'm interested in hearing your opinions, Yankee fans.

Well, a huge win tonight, Lorf. Truthfully, I've already resigned myself to the fact that we're not going to win the division. I think those two wins Tampa got against us this week will put them over the top. I'm just worried about getting in. This last week has really been a roller coaster ride. Winning the first game vs. the Rays, then getting within 3 outs of first place only to have Papelbon cough it up, then the completely frustrating 14-inning loss, then winning last night and feeling like everything was gonna be okay, then trailing in the 8th tonight after dropping the first game and realizing we get the best pitcher in baseball tomorrow. With this win tonight, one win apiece in Tampa and Toronto will get us home in reasonable shape (Minny has 4 games left with Tampa, and 3 with the Chisox). Of course, I'll take more than that if we can get it.

Very worried about our situation right now. Obviously, it's nice to have a 6 game lead (7 over the Jays), but they are red hot. Throw in the fact that they've owned us this year, have 7 games left with us, and the rest of their schedule is cake, and they could be a problem. Now I hear Halladay will pitch on short rest on Sunday, so obviously they smell blood. We've gotta do no worse than win tonight, and split with them this weekend. Then we have to go no worse than 3-3 next week in Tampa and Toronto. Tell me it's gonna be okay, Lorf.

I hear you, Lorf. They've responded well to adversity so far this year. I just spent the week at the beach with four other families, all of them Yankee fans. Good times (although Thursday's game would've been the icing on the cake). Anyway, they can deal without Beckett for the next week, but if he's gone for the season they're in trouble. His next start will be the true test. If he comes out after a few innings, that's a bad, bad sign.

I think the amount of joy is the same, it's just a matter of the amount of time that you experience it over. In '86, for example, we were the favorites all along, so it was fun being the dominant team in the NFL for the whole year, but there were no real moments of pandemonium during that run (except, of course, when it was all over and we were the champs). Last year, there was never really hope during the season for winning it all, but in the postseason we had so many moments of unparalleled excitement that it made up for it. Same amount of excitement, just packed into a shorter amount of time.
