  1. Officials scramble to correct issues with COT By David Newton ESPN.com CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR officials are scrambling to solve a couple of potentially serious issues with the "Car of Tomorrow." Denny Hamlin and several other drivers complained about an unusual amount of carbon monoxide in their system after Sunday's inaugural COT race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Some teams had issues with the protective foam in the right side door overheating, melting and producing toxic fumes. Some had springs that failed for no apparent reason, which may have been the reason for the No. 16 car of Greg Biffle being too low during post-race inspection. NASCAR officials plan to talk with crew chiefs before they arrive in Martinsville on Friday to discuss solutions to these issues. They will look at adjusting the tolerances for minimum height until it is determined what makes the new car settle. They will suggest that teams use a thicker exhaust pipe after determining those that had exhaust systems failures used a thinner pipe to conserve weight. They already have talked to Roush Fenway Racing officials about putting a heat shield over the pipe near the right door and notching the foam higher around the pipe to keep heat from compromising it. NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton and Nextel Cup series director John Darby have scheduled a Friday morning press conference to discuss the issues. Biffle, whose team was exonerated from wrongdoing, on Wednesday applauded NASCAR's effort. "The thing that we're very excited about is they've been very flexible with the teams on the compromises this new car has," said Biffle, who finished fifth. "The main message is this new car is a work in progress. There's going to be adjustments and fine tuning along the way. "They understand that and the teams understand that." Biffle agreed that NASCAR did the right thing in taking his car to the Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., to investigate why it was low. He also agreed that the governing body made the right decision in not issuing penalties, but he wasn't happy with the impression left on Sunday that his team cheated. "They didn't confiscate it like Michael Waltrip's car at Daytona because it had some scientific formula involved," he said of Waltrip's car that had an unidentified substance in the engine. "They took it for observations, to check out what happened. "So things kind of snowballed and got out of control fairly quickly." Biffle said NASCAR and Roush Fenway Racing engineers still don't know for certain why his car was low. "If we were going to race at Bristol tomorrow, we would do the exact same thing we just did," he said. "We don't know what to do different." Biffle said the team never made wedge wrench adjustments -- which NASCAR officials verified -- that would have been necessary to lower the car. He added that lowering the car would have been "stupid" because it would not create an advantage at a half-mile track like Bristol. Biffle said the cars of teammates Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth also were lower than when they began the race, noting Edwards' car would have registered a quarter-inch below the limit as his did had the crew not made wedge turns in the right rear. "His springs had distortions to it," Biffle added. "So did [Kenseth's]. Do we have springs that there may be something wrong with? Hell, we have no idea. We are investigating." Hamlin still has concerns about the exhaust systems that go beyond the thickness of the pipes, noting the inside of the car was hotter than the traditional cars. "I heard some cars broke tailpipes during the race," he said. "We broke ours in practice, but we went with a totally different exhaust system during the race. Ours wasn't tailpipe related." Biffle said he smelled more exhaust than normal during the COT test last month at Bristol. "We moved where my air intake picked up its air over to the left side of the car behind my head," he said. "That seemed to help." Biffle was more concerned that fumes from the melting foam might be dangerous, but he was assured by NASCAR officials they weren't. "We've got a ways to go on this thing," he said of the COT, which will be used in 16 races this season. "But for the first race, I have to say that it was pretty uneventful. "Yeah, some guys had exhaust problems and some had problems with the foam, but to put a car on the track for the first time at a track like Bristol, that was a pretty damn good success."
  2. Paul Posluszny: 'I'd Love to be a Giant' Posted Mar 28th 2007 7:24PM by Dan Benton Filed under: NY Giants, NFC East, NFL Draft, New York Early today on Sirius radio with Bob Papa and Howard Cross, Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny said that he would "love to be a Giant." Poz went on to add that he had previously sat down with Ernie Accorsi and that he wishes he was still around to put in a good word. Additionally, it was noted that he had a meeting with Tom Coughlin earlier this offseason. I realize a lot of people are down on Poz due to his lacking speed and combine "struggles." However, combine performances don't win football games. Poz is a proven winner and leader. He is everything the Giants need in a linebacker right now and frankly, I'd be thrilled if the Giants drafted him. Poz is only the second Penn State linebacker to ever win both the Dick Butkus award and the Chuck Bednarik award. I would be willing to bet he makes it to a Pro Bowl in his first NFL season and only continues to improve as his career develops.
  3. JESUS CHRIST !! here we go again our first " PLAYER WHO WISHES TO BE NAMELESS QUOTE" for 2007
  4. INTERVIEW from Giants.com
  5. He is quietly filling in his role as a leader of the team and calling Shockey and Plaxico tells them he wants them here and He is not going there were they are. bout time this kid "manned up" and showed some balls. ...........but wonder if his mom picked them out too ? (no Eli wear these balls they look more Manly . The ones you have now are so pre-pubescent)
  6. Seeing Double; The Giants Make Another Signing Posted Mar 27th 2007 4:27PM by Dan Benton Filed under: NY Giants, NFC East, New York, NFL Free Agency It must be an early Christmas in New York; the Giants have signed two free agents within a 24-hour period. After signing linebacker Kawika Mitchell, the Giants went out and re-signed offensive lineman Grey Ruegamer. While Ruegamer only saw very limited action last year, he adds veteran depth to the Giants offensive line which no longer has Luke Petitgout. He is widely considered a "mauler," who can play various positions on the offensive line. He is also a good locker room presence; something the Giants didn't have a lot of last season. No financial terms were disclosed, but it was revealed that the deal with be for two years.
  7. I believe next year more tracks will be added and by 2009 the transformation will be complete. all tracks all cot all the time
  8. we are slowly building filling in holes wich is great . Also I read that Ryan Grant has been working out like a mad man and is up to 230 pounds and ripped. He may be our change of speed back if he has gained speed and hand. hopefully our Rb situation is not s problem now and we can look to build the defense and maybe a WR and LT in the draft.
  9. Umenyiora: Call Me 'Chief' Osi Umenyiora is now a Chief. Seriously. “From now on, you must refer to me as Chief Umenyiora,” the Giants defensive end said today. Turns out, Umenyiora took an offseason trip to Nigeria, where he spent five years as a child, and while he was there he became a real Chief. How? “I can’t really tell you that or else I’ll have to kill you,” Umenyiora said. “But it was cool, man. There was a ritual we had to perform. And it cost a lot of money, to be honest with you.” And what, exactly, does a Nigerian Chief get to do? “I have my constituents – mostly quarterbacks,” he said. “You can call me Chief of the Quarterbacks around here.” By the way, Mathias Kiwanuka spent three weeks in Uganda this offseason, but did not become a Chief. “Not yet,” he said. “I’m a Pro Bowl away from that, apparently.” That was my personal highlight of today’s mostly uneventful media access day. There were a few other interesting items: -- Eli Manning is trying to convince Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress to return to New Jersey in mid-April when he starts throwing so they can work out with him at least twice per week. So far they’ve been noncommittal. But if they don’t come up, don’t expect Eli to go down to Miami to work out with them. “No,” he said. “I’m up here. This is where I have to be. All the other players are here. It’s my responsibility to be here with the teammates. This is where our offseason program is.” -- Backup offensive lineman Grey Ruegamer has re-signed with the Giants. He had a one-year deal for the league minimum on the table, so I’m guessing those were the terms. An official announcement is expected on that later. -- Justin Tuck may end up switching to defensive tackle this season, though no decision has been made on that. His recovery from foot surgery is coming along OK. He had the screws taken out a week ago and can run on a treadmill. His status for mini-camp is unclear, but he said “I will be at training camp, no question.” -- David Diehl has not been officially told that he’s going to be the left tackle this season, though he certainly knows that’s how it seems. One thing is certain, though: “I’m not going to play left tackle,” right tackle Kareem McKenzie said. -- It looks like new linebacker Kawika Mitchell is penciled in on the strong side, because Gerris Wilkinson is expecting to get a shot at starting on the weak side. “The way it’s all set up, it’s up to me,” Wilkinson said. “It’s what you want. It’s a chance to be starting.” -- Amani Toomer said his recovery from a torn ACL is coming along fine, and it might even be a little ahead of schedule. It’s still unclear whether he’ll be ready to go full-speed in training camp, though he is hopeful. -- Tiki Barber’s old locker is now occupied by safety Jason Bell. * * By the way, there have been a lot of rumors recently about Michael Strahan possibly being traded or possibly holding out. Here’s what I know about it: Strahan has two more years left on his contract at $4 million each. Because of the $15 million divorce payment he was hit with in January, he obviously needs some cash. So he had a meeting with members of the Giants’ front office back in March where he asked for more money and was told “No.” According to several team sources, the Giants have no intention of trading Strahan. Obviously they’re not going to cut him, either. Recently there was a report that indicated Strahan might hold out. But his agent, Tony Agnone, called that “Total fiction” in an e-mail to the Daily News yesterday. Strahan, as usual, isn’t talking, and you never really know with him. But from what I can tell, he’s going nowhere and he’ll be at training camp on time in July.
  10. I remember when we got him I was so amped that he would bust big plays for us and it turned out he was the only thing that was a bust

  15. Mitchell Not Signed? Giants Get Comp Pick By Dan Benton | March 27th, 2007 Print | E-mail Confused in New York - Epa.gov Talk about a wild offseason filled with reporting gone amuck. According to ESPN 1050 (last night), the Giants have not officially signed Kawika Mitchell. In fact, according to their report he will not even be in New York today. This obviously contradicts previous reports made by Arthur Staple and Mike Garafolo, who both indicated that this deal was already signed, sealed and delivered. Now, don’t lose your minds. That’s not to say this deal won’t get done because it does seem imminent. According to Newsday, the two sides are very close and it could be done in the very near future. However, since his name is not yet on the contract that leaves the door open for some disastrous possibilities. Other Notes: - The Giants have been awarded a compensatory pick. It will be the number for of the 7th round, 250th overall. - Vonta Leach officially returned to the Texans. - Readers, please check out NFLpetition.org. It’s a page created by one of our very own G101 readers to help raise awareness about the hardships ex-NFL players are facing today and the lack of assistance they are getting from the NFL.

  17. A great pass rusher at Florida State, Andre Wadsworth battled knee injuries throughout his three-year NFL career (1998-2000). HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- The New York Jets signed defensive end Andre Wadsworth, out of football since 2000, to a contract Tuesday. The 32-year-old Wadsworth, the No. 3 overall pick by Arizona in the 1998 draft, hasn't played in the NFL in six seasons after undergoing multiple knee operations. His rookie year was his only full season, and he was then hampered by the knee problems. Wadsworth had three operations on his right knee and one on the left when the Cardinals opted to not pick up the last three years of his six-year, $42.143 million contract when they released him in 2001. Because of the health issues, Wadsworth appeared in just 36 games in three seasons, starting 30. The former Florida State standout has 119 tackles, eight sacks, three fumble recoveries and one interception in his career. Wadsworth walked on to the Seminoles and developed into what was thought to be a can't-miss NFL prospect when he was drafted after quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf. He was expected to join a Cardinals defensive line that featured three first-round selections: Wadsworth, tackle Eric Swann (1991) and end Simeon Rice (1996). But Swann also had knee problems, and Rice and tackle Mark Smith were considered malcontents. As a result, the four never took the field at the same time
