  1. Then you're saying he was signed for no reason...

Like I said he was signed to compete for a roster spot. Duckett and even Seawright are far from locks at making the final roster I dont care what DT spot they play.

...he was signed for a reason...to offer competition in camp. But he likely won't beat out Seawright for a job seeing as they won't even be competing for the same job. And Duckett has two seasons in the NFL under his belt. I don't find it likely that Green will be on this team come september...maybe practice squad

  2. I like the fact that not only did we gather for the future but almost everyone of the players we took can make an impact this year

Kiwi will get his chances on special teams and passing downs. Moss will likely win the third spot in camp and bring an important new dimension to the offense. Wilkinson will contribute as a backup and on specials. Cofield might be able to start at the two-gap spot by the middle of the season. Peprah will get his chances on specials and from the highlights I have seen McPherson is a pretty good ST gunner and a great athlete.

Whimper is the only guy who will likely not see any significant playing time during the season, but he is going to see extensive action in preseason and has the ability to one day start for us. His weaknesses(mainly his poor technique and the fact that he only started one year at LT) are all correctable with coaching.

I might actually up my grade to around a B+

  3. I am sure TC will be all over him <_<

oh stop it...if you stop and reflect on the Kiwi pick it was a good choice. I was as upset as anyone yesterday but we now have two great athletes battling out for Strahan's spot when Mike calls it a career. There was no one who would of made an immediate impact for us(maybe Chad Jackson...but its a moot point now) so we choose for the future...nothing wrong with that...

  4. Yeah, Miami scooped him up. My biggest worry going into the season is still at the corner posistion, Corey Webster is the anointed starter opposite Madison but i dont see what hes done to win that job. Apart from causing some turnovers in the preseason all i saw was Webster struggle, in his start Joe Jurevicious made him look flat terrible. I pray Peterson has some miraculous recovery because i think QB's will be picking on Webster untill he proves he can play in this league.

Would of liked to see a guy taken earlier, but no rookie would be able to come in and push C Web out of the starting job. So, even if we took a corner in the first round it would not immediatly improve our pass defense. I'm not worried about Webster. He has tons of talent and now will have a full season and another training camp under his belt. Next year is his chance...he can either prove that he deserves to be a starting corner for us, or prove that we need to look for another corner next off season. He probably knows this and I expect big things out of Webster this season for the very reason you stated. QB will likely decide to pick on Webster over his more experienced counter part. This should give Corey many chances to make some big plays for our defense and hopefully show us that he was worth the second round pick last year...

  5. The reasoning is simple: We are transitioning to a 3-4 defense which would make both OLB's share the same responsibility. That is the reason for so many linebackers on the roster and drafting a nose tackle.

no...we are not....We don't have a true nose tackle besides a fourth round rookie...we don't have another inside linebacker and moving to a 3-4 would negate Osi and Strahan's best assets(thier pass rushing ability)....we don't have any 3-4 DE's

we may see a few looks in the 3-4 during each game but the base defense will still be a 4-3...

  6. Barry Cofield is a perfect replacement for Clancy but I think he has the potential to be much better against the run. Cofield can play nose and so can Robbins. I think we still can sign a vet for the min. and possibly even use our last selection on a DT or get a player as an undrafted free agent to compete with Duckett and Seawright. I think most fans are over reacting on our DT situation. We dont need an allstar tackle we just need role players in the middle who can occupy blockers and get the job done on a rotation. Im actually more worried about our DBs.

I would still like to see us grab buckner on a one year deal, just to bridge the gap to the young guys. Gerald Andersen or Manaia Brown would be nice picks in the 7th if we were looking for another DT. As a Georgia fan I have seen Gerald Andersen play many times, and though he is not an athletic specimen at tackle. He is a big body that can clog up the middle to free the linebackers. Manaia Brown(I have not seen him play, so this is based only on scouting reports) is athletic enough to play the one-gap DT spot, but big and strong enough to play the two-gap spot...

either would make me real happy for a 7th rounder

  7. i was pissed when my fins drafted Safety Jason Allen in the first round because of the hip injury.

When i heard about Mathias, I didn't feel too bad.

....you reached and grabbed a CB/FS 'tweener who has be reported by more than one source to have a degenerative hip condition....

....We grabbed a very smart and very athletic pass rushing DE to one day take over for our aging left end.....

and you think your pick was better?

  8. solid B....after a little reflection the Kiwi pick may turn out well for us. Can never have to many pass rushers. Moss will add a whole nother dimension to our offense and Wilkinson will add depth to our linebacking core...something that we obviously needed last season. Whimper is a great athlete who could develop into a solid player and Cofield could eventually start for us. Peprah is a good depth pick and will contribute on special teams and as a backup...and we still got one more pick to go...a corner? a guard? another linebacker or DT? let's wait and see

  9. TC forced the two Boston College picks....there...

Our best pick of the draft appeared to be one not influenced by Coughlin.

there were two BC picks? one is Kiwi...whom might the other one be?
