  1. No way! hes definently not worth it, hes not working out at the combine because he has a naggin ankle injury. He may run a 40 in the 4.7 range (which ain't good) and he comes from a pass happy college offense, he almost stayed in school in one year but that would of cost him money cause next years recieving class is top notch. Even Hakeem Nicks may be gaining ground on him this year, Oakland takes him cause they have too, but even they may pass him up, i'm not saying hes not a good reciever but a tad bit overatted theres definently some risk in taking Crabtree

I guarentee he doesn't go further down past the Raiders though. I'd like to get him or Britt though. I'm sure we wouldn't lose any picks to get Britt though, so I'd rather get him or Nicks.

  2. You'd have to offer a 1st, 2nd, and the other 2nd probably.

    Is that really worth it?

He defiantly ain't worth all that. But I would use a one of my 2nd picks, a 3rd, and a 5th round pick if they would take it. 3 picks for a 1st rounder is worth it for both sides I would think. Especially if any of those top teams have cap issues and can't afford all the money these top picks ask for.

  3. ding ding ding, every prospect is the best and every trade makes them the best team in baseball, the Mets are merely a team of garbage, who cares that Pelfrey won 14 games had a 3 era and pitched close to 200 innings.

Lol... I really expect alot out of Ollie this year now that we have a pretty sick bullpen. I'm hoping to have atleast 1 or 2 pitchers with over 20 wins. That would be nice. We have the best 1-2 punch in the 8th and 9th inning. And thank god no more Heilman. I hated that guy so freakin much!

  4. Inside Slant

The Giants, almost totally out of character, tagged running back Brandon Jacobs with the franchise label, thereby virtually guaranteeing that the 6-4, 265-pound star will remain with the team and earn an anticipated $6.621 million base salary in 2009.

There might have been a deeper intent as well. With Jacobs, who gained 1,089 yards last season for his second plus-1,000-yard season, safely in the fold, the team can now make a concerted effort to re-sign another free agent, fellow running back Derrick Ward (1,025 yards in 2008).

The Giants and Jacobs along with his agent will not have time to negotiate a longer, more lucrative contract, but with the $6.621 million set aside, it might not be impossible for Ward to be retained as well. The pair became only the third set of running backs in NFL history (not counting quarterbacks) to go past the 1,000-yard mark in the same season.

There is still some juggling needed to align the salary cap figures, but with Jacobs “reserved” at $6.2 million, at least the number, however high, won’t change.

As always, there are some players who will become free-agent eligible on Feb. 27 whom the Giants will allow to walk. Perhaps the most well-known of this group is the team’s all-time leading receiver, Amani Toomer, who at the age of 34 and after a dozen years with the team seems to have moved past his prime.

Jacobs teamed with Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw to create the “Earth, Wind and Fire” unit, and all three have expressed hope that they be allowed to remain with the Giants to keep the team-within-a-team intact. Ward plans to test the market while Bradshaw, who had a year to go under his rookie contract, is currently serving the second half of a 60-day prison sentence for parole violation when he was a juvenile in Virginia.

“We always thought that Brandon would remain a Giant,” said head coach Tom Coughlin. “He embodies what we want our team to be like. He’s tough, he is competitive and he never stops trying.”

General manager Jerry Reese expressed pleasure that the franchise-tag decision was made and that Jacobs handled it so well. “We’ll work on a long-term extension,” he said. “Brandon will hopefully always be on this team.”

    Notes, Quotes

    • Five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Brad Van Pelt, once the Giants’ second round draft pick in 1973, died suddenly at his home in Michigan of an apparent heart attack. Van Pelt, 6-5 and 235 when he played, became part of the famous “Crunch Bunch” group of linebackers when the Giants employed a 3-4 defense. The others were Harry Carson, Brian Kelley and Lawrence Taylor. Both Van Pelt and Taylor are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

    • The Giants will receive the second- and fifth-round draft picks from the New Orleans Saints during the April 25-26 college player selection as payment for the trade of TE Jeremy Shockey last summer. There are teams petitioning them to trade one or both of those selections for a first round pick, which might provide the Giants with a blue-chipper at a position they want to fill. Nothing has been acknowledged, however, although they have their eyes on a quality WR such as Michael Crabtree or a top OT such as Andre Smith.

    • If Derrick Ward signs elsewhere during the UFA period, the Giants might not bother to draft another RB. They’ll be left with Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and last summer’s preseason sensation Danny Ware.

Quote To Note: “I am pleased that we were able to pull this off. I didn’t want to lose Brandon (Jacobs) and at the same time I have an obligation to do what is best for the Giants. This works out well all around.”—Giants’ GM Jerry Reese on the franchise tag application to the star RB.

    TRANSITION PLAYER: None.

    UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS

    • SS James Butler was a first-time starter last season and played well, but his place will be taken by last year’s No. 1 draft pick Kenny Phillips.

    • K John Carney did well for the Giants on an interim basis but will not be offered a new contract at the age of 44.

    • DE Jerome McDougle is unlikely to return.

    • CB/KR R.W. McQuarters is on the bubble and if he’ll take a reduced salary he might be re-signed.

    • G/C Grey Ruegamer is a 10-year veteran and is useful; he is also not overly expensive.

    • LB Rich Scanlon probably won’t be back.

    • WR Amani Toomer, the Giants’ all-time leading receiver, will probably not be offered a new contract after 12 years with the team.

    • RB Derrick Ward gained 1,025 yards and is the perfect backup for Brandon Jacobs but it is unlikely that the team can keep two such highly-paid running backs.

    • QB Anthony Wright spent the year on injured reserve and probably won’t get even that chance again.

    • DE Renaldo Wynn was a stop-gap signee and should be dispatched.

  5. Seriously, do you even look up the facts before you make judgments?

In 2006 Johnson had 87 receptions for 1,369 yards and 7 touchdowns.

In 2007 he had 93 receptions for 1,440 yards and 8 touchdowns.

In those years Johnson beat out Owens in those 2 categories, but scored more touchdowns.

    I'll take Chad, thanks.

ok my bad, your right about '07

    2008 Cincinnati Bengals 13 10 53 540 10.2 26 4 -- -- -- -- -- -- --

    2007 Cincinnati Bengals 16 16 93 1,440 15.5 70T 8 6 47 7.8 16 0 2 1

    TOTAL 612 8,905 14.6 82 53 21 143 6.8 18 0 5 2

and he's had a decent career, but TO IMO is still superior

in the past 3 years he has 38 TD's compared to Chad's whopping 19. Owens is older so probably just because of age I'd probably take Chad, but TO IMO is still the better player, even though I hate the guy

  6. Johnson is not as big of a head case at Owens.

Oh and by the way, Chad Johnson had a hell of year in 2007, he played like crap this year because

of the instability with the Bengals QB situation and played with a serious shoulder injury.

But yeah, Chad Johnson never shows up.

2006 was Chad's big year. He had 'decent' numbers in '07, and in '08 was a loud mouthed cheerleader.I hate TO but anyone in thier right mind would take TO over Chad. Say what you want about TO, but atleast he plays hurt.

  7. I'd take Chad Johnson over T.O. any day of the week and twice on Sunday's.

Johnson is no where NEAR the cancer T.O is and to even compare the two is stupid.

lol, your right. TO has way more talent then Ocho Cinco... My bad for comparing.. :LMAO:

TO is a bigger headache but he shows up on Sunday way more the Chad does. Especially the past 2 years.

  8. Ok, seriously I dont want him here for a blockbuster contract, but if we could get him cheap...and...and...only for ONE, I repeat...ONE season, I'm aboard.

    Ok, start blasting me.

This is why I would say no...

Terrell Owens: "Eli throws to Smith and Boss more then he throws to me. (wah, wah) and I only caught 3 balls."

Reporter: "But TO, he threw to you 12 times this game."

Terrell Owens: "Yeah, well the balls weren't catchable."

Reporter: "But didn't you blow about 6 of your routes, and drop 3 of them?

    Terrell Owens: "No comment."

  9. I don't want Plax back.

I'd like to see us trade some of our picks for an elite WR that would like to be a Giant.

or trade our 1st and 3rd or 1st and 2nd if we have to to get a high 1st round pick and pick a superstar WR.

So would you like Kenny Brit as a 1st rounder because of his height and ability, or move up and get Crabtree?

  10. Ok so I know that most of us Met fans acknowledge that this middle of the order needs another bat and many of us feel its the perfect storm brewing to add Manny. Most of us look at the corner outfield positions and see a guy who is now 30 years old and has never driven in more than 70 runs in a season and a journeyman out of baseball for 3 years and a rookie converted infielder as something that a team expecting to compete must upgrade. Now I for one can acknowledge the Manny potential issues, but sadly I cannot see any reason why not to sign him, but lets be honest the Wilpons have balked at things like this before(see Vlad 2004) as they steadfastly stick to a payroll number(ironic for two stupid fucks who let Bernie Madoff run off with 700 mil of their money)and very rarely go over it before the season starts.

So lets say Manny is a no go. How about Bobby Abreu?

The naysayers will say, well he is left handed and the Mets are lefty heavy. I will tell you he hits lefties as good or better than righties(315 in 08). The naysayers will tell you he is a defensive liability. I will tell you he is better than TWO converted infielders are at a corner outfield spot and has proven that 70 rbis is not his max. He works the count as good as any hitter in the game and put him in the 3 hole in front of Wright and you can bet that he would see a shitload of pitches to hit.

He is no Clemente in the OF, that I will admit, but are Tatis and Murphy any better?

IMO this is a terrific fallback plan to pissing away the oppurtunity to add the best right handed hitter in the game.

Good article. I love the idea. Especially for a 1-year to see what he can do against NL teams. Would love to have Manny, but Bobby is a close 2nd to me, and he actually wants to play for us. C'mon Omar!!

  11. I'm confidant that if David Carr had to go in for Eli that he would play great. He likes our system, has great RB support, has decent WR's, and most of all has a great O-Line. He's pretty accurate, and if he has time he doesn't make mistakes. He's also very mobile, which I'm not used to in Giants QB's. He actually reminds me of Romo. Only differance is I don't hate Carr.
