EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Tiki Barber has received the Good Guy Award for cooperation with the media from the Professional Football Writers of America. It is the second such award Barber has received. In December, the Giants’ record-setting running back was voted the winner of the fifth annual George Young Good Guy Award by the Giants' chapter of the Professional Football Writers.

RB Tiki Barber has been honored by the Professional Football Writers of America for his cooperation with the media.

“I'm honored that the PFWA selected me for this award,” Barber said of the national honor. “It represents the kind of person I try to be - respectful and courteous to everyone.

I hope that I provide a good example for many to emulate.”

Barber has been one of the Giants’ most accessible and cooperative players since joining the team in 1997. He is known for his friendly demeanor, patience, candor and the long, thoughtful responses with which he answers most questions. Barber is one of the most accessible star athletes in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. He is a go-to guy in the locker room for both print and electronic media and his weekly meetings with reporters always draw large crowds.

In the offseason, Barber is a member of the media. He hosts two shows on Sirius Satellite Radio, is a regular contributor to “FOX and Friends” on the FOX News Channel and was a guest host on Good Day New York on FOX 5. In the past, Barber has been a substitute sportscaster for the CBS affiliate in New York.

“Media cooperation is essential for the health of our game,” Barber said. “They report our feats, chronicle our seasons and tell our stories to the world and our ever eager fans."

The George Young Award, named for the late general manager of the Giants, is given annually to honor a Giants player for his consistent and outstanding cooperation with the writers who cover the team on a daily basis. Previous winners include Lomas Brown, Kerry Collins, Ike Hilliard and Kurt Warner.

Barber, who played in each of the last two Pro Bowls, holds the Giants’ rushing records for both a single season (1,860 in 2005) and career (8,787). He is also second on the franchise’s career list with 528 receptions, one behind Amani Toomer.

  3. lemme guess what you're going to say, "archie has played on bad teams....it's not his fault, he was a great player." truth be told, he's one of the most overrated players ever. true he did play with the new orleans aints, but he also played with two different franchises and couldn't do anything with them either. you damn right i'm blaming it on him.......15 years and 3 different teams, yet he's NEVER played in a post-season game????? tell me then, if it's not his fault, then whose is it? he was simply never a leader

You gotta point. Although, no matter how you slice it, having a good team around you is key, but Archie never made it to a post game, and it was a good portion of his own fault. Peyton has though, and some of that learning had to come from Archie. Peyton learned from Archie, Eli is learnin from Peyton. Its a gradual process, which I believe will work great for Eli. :TU:

  4. (1) Manning put the team on his back and win a few games.

    (2) The secondary to make some big plays, and not blow sure int's and watch inside runs turninto 15+ yard games

    (3) The LB corps give run support the likes of a knockout punch. Lightning fast pursuite at the offensive point of the attack

With all the weapons we have, we may not need Eli do do #1 that often. But I already believe he can do that. Just look at the Denver game and the Seattle game minus the Feeley fuck ups.

  5. waaaaa.......it was his first playoff game.........waaaaaaa..........give him some time........waaaaaaaaaa

let's see how other active notable qbs did during their first playoff stint

    tom brady-won 16 - 13 vs. oakland raiders

    mcnabb-won 21 - 3 vs. tampa bay buccaneers

    roethlisberger-won 20 - 17 vs. jets

kurt "I should have been the starter" warner-won 49 - 37 vs. minnesota vikings

    mcnair-won 22 - 16 vs. buffalo bills

    favre-won 28 - 24 at detroit lions

kerry "i should have been the starter" collins won 26 - 17 vs. dallas cowboys

    culpepper-won 34 - 16 vs. new orleans saints

    wait a minute.......

archie manning-played in the NFL for 15 seasons and NEVER LED HIS TEAM TO PLAYOFFS

    peyton manning-lost 16 -19 vs. tennessee titans

    eli manning-didn't even score

looks like it runs in the family

    :LMAO:

And what types of teams did these QB's have at the time???

Thats right, COMPLETLEY HEALTHY teams. This team assembled is pretty new together, w/ the QB in his 1st full year. Big difference.

    NOTE NOTE.........SEE ABOVE POST!!!!

McNabb may ahve won his 1st one, but choked 4 times thereafter. Not impressive. :TU:

  6. before you can win a superbowl, you gotta be able to score in a playoff game

Exactly. You gotta crawl B4 you can walk.

Its funny to me how Eagle fans use that playoff game as trash talk. Like it was something unexpected. A young QB in his first playoff appearance with half his team injured, what did you think would happen? And, you gotta remember, Its better to go and lose, then to not go at all. :TU:

  7. wow....just when you thought the country's reading comprehension skills advanced, you maggots took illiterateness to another level

at no time did i say westy was "better" than tiki, however i did mention that you cannot compare the career's of the two because it would be skewed. how can you compare the careers when one has played twice as long as the other? it's like saying eli is a better qb than matt hasselbeck

let the younger guy play a little while longer before you pass judgment

I just think this thread got outta hand. I see what you were orig. posting, but comparing stats in thier 1st 4 years is gonna give some the idea that you are comparing the actual players. Westy does kill us sometimes, I'll give you that. But theres no comparison over all. Westy needs to be in the league a little longer, as previously stated.

  8.

I don't know about being a better reciever. Westbrook may have better number, but please keep in mind the westbrook plays in a pass happey system.

Keep in mind the Tiki had to share the load too...Gary Brown, joe Mongmery (sp) Ron Dayne (:puke:)just to name a few.

Exactly. His #'s in his 1st 4 years were like that because he didnt carry the full load. Philly never really had a pass offense, so Wetbrook did more.

But whats more interesting is the fact that you compared thier FIRST FOUR YEARS!!!

Whats happened since? I'll tell you.

TIKI=ONE OF THE BEST RB's IN FOOTBALL.

    Westy=Average at best.

  9. "Cautious optomism." I like that a lot better than the "pessimist asshole" my old man calls me.

No inside information for me, but I live in Philly and am constantly exposed to the Eagles whether I like it or not, so I do know a lot about the team itself. The have very good lines on both sides of the ball, and that's where games are won and lost. The only way I see them running the ball though is if Westbrook somehow figures out a way to go through the middle or if they discover a power back who can grind it out - both of which look doubtful. I agree that they're going to end up passing a lot - but even with no name WRs McNabb has proven that he can be successful in that game, just so long as the passes aren't over 10 yards.

Either way, predictions don't mean a thing. That's why they play the games.

Very good lines, yes, but not much else. That used to be enough to worry me, but the Gints have improved vastly, I totally expect to take the div. again
