  1. Money, seriously great job. First, I want to comment on your FA signings. I like everyone of these signings but one. Its not the fact that I dont like it, but I think the opportunity isnt right for that player. Thats QB Josh McCown. Now unless its a short term contract (1 year), I dont think he will sign with us. Im not sure if thats what you had in mind or not... is it? Besides that I really like your signings. Its what I like most about your Offseason Plan. If Ronde were to be cut, and we have reason to believe he might very well be released, we are front runners for his services. I really like the Ben Leber and Lance Schulters signings. I like the McCown signing but like I said, Im not sure NYG is exactly appealing to him. I use the same draft sites as you, so our understanding of where prospects will go is in the same ball park. I liked all of your finalist that you had selected as well as your final picks. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed you went with the 4 round mock. One reason being, I think it severly effects the 53 man roster... well its mainly the 5th and 6th round picks. Especially in this draft were there is alot of talent. I would have just like to have known who you thought we would be targeting. I guess the only pick I have questions about is the 4th round pick Brandon Johnson. Now I understand he could be under rated but why draft two WLBs? I would have rather you drafted a MLB, if you were going to go the LB route. But Im sure you have good reasoning behind your decision. Also, like Hound, I am not happy with the way you left the LT position, but I could be satisfied with it. I like the fact that we resigned Whitfield to be the first replacement behind Luke and McKenzie. His experience and versitility are very important to keep around, especially on a playoff calibar team. I would honestly like to see us target a rookie to potentially replace Luke at LT, if not be at least a quality backup in the future. I would like to get this guy within the first 5 rounds. Now you said your not to impressed with the OTs but Im thinking we can get a suitable player with potential somewhere from rounds 2-5. I also think we can get 4 OTs on roster. My answer to that would be cutting one of your DTs or OLBs. Like I said at the start, great job bro, certainly the best I've seen thus far.
  2. Steelers trying to keep Hope off free-agent market By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com Although there has been no formal contract proposal yet, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made verbal overtures aimed at retaining Chris Hope and will try to keep their starting free safety off the unrestricted market. "They've told us that Chris is one of their top targets [to re-sign]," agent Braylon Bennett told ESPN.com on Monday, "and we're taking them at their word. The thing is, without an extension [to the collective bargaining agreement], doing business will be hard. So we'll see what happens. No matter what, our feeling is that Chris will be the top free-agent safety." Bennett and Hope met Monday to discuss the player's potential options. A four-year veteran and a starter each of the last two seasons, Hope is one of three defenders who started for the Steelers in Super Bowl XL and is eligible for unrestricted free agency. He is likely the player among those three, it seems, that Pittsburgh will try the hardest to retain. Defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen, 35, is a 12-year veteran and there is a sense the younger Brett Keisel, who is also eligible for free agency and a priority for the Steelers, might be ready to supplant him in the starting lineup. Versatile cornerback Deshea Townsend is arguably the team's best coverage defender and Pittsburgh would also like to have him back, but the progress made by rookie Bryant McFadden in 2005 could propel him into the lineup as well. Team officials reiterated at the Super Bowl that retaining Hope is a priority. There appears to be no viable replacement on the roster for Hope, who is often overshadowed by Pro Bowl strong safety Troy Polamalu but who is an integral part of the Steelers' defense. The assessment of Bennett, that his client will be an ardently sought player if he goes onto the market on March 3, is probably an apt one, based on conversations with league personnel directors. A third-round choice in the 2002 draft, Hope is a bright player (a two-time Academic All-American at Florida State), possesses a solid physical skills set and is an emerging performer at a position that is regaining prominence around the league. Hope, just 25, has averaged 97 tackles in his two seasons as a starter and has four interceptions and 20 passes defensed for 2004-05. His three interceptions led the Steelers in 2005 and his 11 pass deflections were third most on the team. His range is a primary reason that Pittsburgh can afford to use Polamalu in so many different ways and is a key to the cover-3 schemes the Steelers deploy so often in third-and-long situations. There is a chance that Bennett will meet this week with Steelers officials at the predraft scouting combine in Indianapolis. "It's something we have discussed, and we're waiting to hear how it might fit into their schedule, given everything they've got to do there," Bennett said. "But if they can find the time, we're more than willing to make sure we're available. Chris has a great deal of admiration for ownership, the coaches, his teammates and the fans, and he'd love to keep playing in Pittsburgh, if possible. But he understands the business end of the game, too, and he'll do what's right for him." Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com.

  8. I posted my first comments to this and Cromartie on another site but thanks to this state-of-the-Art copy and paste feature, I will just paste it here. He seems like a great guy. He definitely has his head screwed on tight and is leaving early for a damn good reason. He definitely gets my respect but untill he checks out physically he is still to risky. If he does check out ok he would be a steal in the late second but I think he'll be long gone at that time. Cromartie has physical attributes very few players at his position have. He can be a big time difference maker. I cant believe the NFL told him 3rd or 4th round. Never would I imagine him falling that far. You are talking about a potential top 10 pick if he stays in college or if he was healthy this season.
  9. Here's the interview if anyone wanted to read it.
  10. Yes it was indeed. You know where I stand. You need help, i'll help. I'll even participate.
  11. lol. I'd be cautious too and even though he has struggled with injuries the last 4 seasons, I still think he is one of the better corners in the league. When healthy. I dont think he's going to get that top notch dollar because of his injury concerns, but I can be wrong. I think if we can solidify our depth at corner with a 2nd or 3rd round draft choice, Deloatch, and Webster, as well as Will Peterson maybe even Frank, we can deal with him missing a few games. We know Woodson hasnt been happy with Oakland, so maybe he hasnt been playing 100%. Health of course but Im talking effort. But I dont know, I was just throwing his name out there. We've always been Allen supporters, and I still want him back. I still think he might be our best option for CB, at this point.
  12. If you guys recall last season we just missed out on signing Fred Smoot. We do have the intentions of putting money into the CB position. Although we dont have the cap room now, we can easily clear room to make a signing for a player like Ronde or maybe even a Charles Woodson. Although that might take a little more sacrific.
  13. I think he would be a great fit too, we need a vet. Corner as well as a corner that is better in the Cover 2 defense. Ronde is one of the best Cover 2 corners in the league, It would be a great signing if he was released. Ronde counts 4.68 million against the Bucs cap, but the Bucs said they want to keep Ronde. And If you recall last year around this time, Ronde asked for a new deal. The big thing with this whole situation though, could be all the money the Bucs have tied into their Defense. Out of their top 7 highest paid players, 6 of which are on the Defense. The other is Greise, which will almost certainly be released. Its also worth noting Kelly is counting 3.63 million on the cap and the Bucs seriously lack depth at CB.
  14. Youboty right now is the most overrated CB in this years draft class. He is only like Gamble in size and coming from the same school. If he is a ball hawk explain the one INT this season. Chris Gamble has a 41 inch vertical, Youboty does not. Youboty doesnt have the closing speed and cover abilities Gamble has. He also doesnt have the hands and timing. Gamble was an incredible athelete who served as the starting WR, CB, PR and KR. Right now Youboty's draft status is first round when it should be second. He is also being overrated because of the success of Winfield, Gamble, Springs, and Clements. He is too inconsistent and raw to be a first round pick. Im high on Jason Allen as well and I dont like Howard as a first but in the 2nd he could be an option. I like Sims. Not just his physical skills but all of his intangibles. I like the fact that he is about tradition. I like his aggressive style of play. I also like the fact that he has played every game of his career. Which I think is severly over looked. He plays sideline to sideline and does have that knack for making the big play. I've watched him since his freshman season and he has always been an impact player for Bowden. His speed could be his greatest asset which we do need on our defense especially at backer. His style and measureables are very similar to Green. I think thats a plus. If we lose Green to injury, Sims can step in right away and contribute. If we cut Green, Sims fits in perfectly and we dont lose a step. Seattle had success with two rookie backers, we can have it with one. The only question for me is "when does he get selected?" If he runs the forty around 4.4 as he says he can he'll go late first. If he doesnt, if he's closer to 4.5 he'll go in the second but wont last til our pick. If we select him at 25 it might be to early but I dont think we will regret it. If we let him pass we wont get him unless we trade up or if we trade back from 25, which could be the best option for us.
