  1. That's an Aussie thing. Haven't you ever seen Crocodile Dundee? LOL Those who grow up in the outback, have a hard time adjusting to rules.
  2. Actually, I discussed him in my first paragraph. No big deal. Anyway, I like his heart, but his small size makes me nervous. I do like his attitude and he was a monster on special teams last night. I was surprised that he kept getting into the backfield rushing the QB considering his size. At 5'10, that's pretty short for a lineman. On the other hand, 250 lbs at that short height means he is a fireplug and maybe it's hard for offensive linemen to contain him because of his short size. I have an idea he'll make the team because he's so versatile and TC loves players with heart and a football mentality. And he can play FB, RB, DT, and DE as well as be a top tier ST player - a utility player supreme. And the way we rack up injuries, I can see the team taking him.
  3. I'm having a little trouble absorbing this trade. I like Weatherford a lot. And I hate giving up draft picks. I hope this kid is really special and can nail the coffin corner. I wish Weatherford all the best luck in the world. His attitude and spirit was a boost to the team. Still scratching my head.
  4. I just hope he has been working out to be in shape and has figured out how to still be effective with a partial hand. Best case scenario: he plays as if nothing happened. Worst case scenario: he shows up out of shape and his hand bothers him so much that he just isn't the same. My bet is that he'll play like the JPP we had before he decided to show off lighting fireworks (probably quarter stickers or cherry bombs) that he's holding in his hand.....duhhhh.
  5. My two cents. Quite a boring game if I may say so myself. It was played almost entirely by backups with the starters watching from the side lines. No one really stood out like they wanted a job. Whitlock is interesting. He has the heart of a football player, but his size scares the crap out of me. He's been playing fullback, but the Giants are using him at DT. But he's 5'10 and looks like a midget lined up against the offensive line. But the kid still makes plays. Just can't get over his size. Landon Collins looked terrific. He was a friggin steal in the draft. He's everywhere and can drop back with the speed of a safety and wraps up his tackles. We are all gonna love this kid. Selvie looked like a man on a mission, constantly outplaying his counterpart. Had two sacks before half time. He looks hungry to be a bad ass DE. Geremy Davis made a few tough catches even though Nassib was not nearly as sharp as he's been in the past. If the ball was close to Davis, he pulled it in, even with defenders draped on his back. Nassib seems to use Dwayne Harris as his "safety net". He seems to be in tune with Harris and vice versa. Nassib can thread the needle when he's targeting Harris. Although, he threw the ball on the ground behind Harris on one play when Harris was wide open. Other than that throw, he seems to do well with Harris. Not so much the other receivers. Running game needs a lot of work. Not overly impressed with any of our RB's yet. Damantre Moore needs to be taken to the woodshed and slapped around until he smartens up. He had 3 penalties (15 yds each) for late hits and unsportsmanlike conduct/unnecessary roughness. That is inexcusable. A full two seconds after a player is down and the whistle blown - here comes Moore to spear into a guy who is (and has been) down. Dumb. Hosley actually looked pretty good tonight, but he would mix it up like two brilliant plays, one really bad play, 4 really good plays, then 1 bonehead play. All in all, he looked a lot better than I've ever seen him play and he looks like he's a hungry guy to make the team and finally produce. [edit] forgot to add Kerry Wynn in the list of those who stood out. Wynn is definitely a keeper. High motor, causes disruptions, and plays the way one expects out of a DE.
  6. I'm glad Uani Unga made it through. Seems like a great kid who has proved himself worthy and he needs the break. Besides, I like saying, "Ooh-ah-nee-OOON-ga". Goes nicely with Amawagbe Odighizuwa. I'm glad they kept Bret Jones. I think he has promise...at least more than Reynolds. The Giants must have more faith in Kuhn than most of us on this board. Can't believe they are keeping Adrien Robinson. How many years does it take before they figure out that he doesn't cut it. What's he got, 3 receptions in 4 years for a total of 27 yards or something like that? And he can't block for shit.
  7. Out of all those cuts, I see only 1 safety. And I doubt he's anything special. this is the kind of shit I have to put up with on Facebook from my buddies that are Bills or Jets fans:
  8. Highlight of the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMpo7MOokdI
  9. A little bit of good news. Apparently, Hart's injury is not serious. His ankle is sore, but not sprained or broken. He'll be back on the field is short time. Haven't heard anything about Ayers or Gordy's injuries yet.
  10. Well, it looks as though Ayers fucked up his ankle and Achilles. Hart is down after getting head-speared in the knee (some are saying could be season ending), and Josh Gordy has suffered a hip injury. It's time to cancel the Giants/Jets preseason injury show. Happens every year. Even the Jets lost their no. 1 draft pick steal with the loss of Leonard Williams to a knee injury. Hopefully, these injuries are not nearly as serious as I fear they are.
  11. Well...I've seen enough. My hope is that McAdoo's playbook is filled with great plays that haven't been shown in preseason. Hope Hart's and Ayer's injuries are not serious.
  12. Well....half time and a few notables. Flowers is a fucking stud - manhandling everyone in front of him and making holes for the runners. Love watching Odighizuwa - he's got a motor and giving the offensive line fits JT Thomas is not as sharp as he was last week. I like Harris - little fucker goes and goes. Eli to Beckham a thousand times better than last week, but still too sloppy. All in all, I am most impressed with Flowers and keeping an eye on Bromley who seems to be pretty solid.
  13. I'm sure that in hindsight, the Giants probably wish they resigned Antrel. However, they thought he would command superstar bucks on a mulit-year contract and he'll be 33 years old this season. Not a great age for a team to heavily invest in. The Giants wanted to get younger rather than tie up their money in players on the downslide...especially for more than a 1-year contract. Was it a mistake? In hindsight, probably yes. But everyone is a genius in hindsight. The Giants thought they had a legitimate shot at Devin McCourty but it blew up on them. McCourty was 5 years younger than Rolle and his best years ahead of him, not behind him. The Giants were super, super lucky to end up getting Landon Collins even if he doesn't have NFL experience. He will in short time. Regardless - the Giants tried, they failed, and now they have to make do with what they can. Not sure why there is hatred for Stevie. He did a fabulous job for the Giants in 2012/13. If you forgot, here's a write up on him: Can't hurt to see if he's got something left in the tank. He's 28 years old, so he's not over the hill in football terms. I suppose it all boils down to how well he's come back from his ACL injury. At this point in the preseason, we have to kick some tires out there to fill some holes for bench players.
  14. Houston just cut Stevie Brown. The Giants have lost 4 safeties for the season so far and only picked up Merriweather. Almost seems like a no brainer. I doubt Brown could put up the numbers he did a few years ago for the Giants, but at least he has NFL experience and could be a solid backup. I have not heard of any injuries or setbacks so not sure why he's cut. He's still only 28 years old, so he's right at the peak of his physical and athletic growth. He should be good for a couple of years. I think the Giants should pull the trigger on this one. The Giants aren't the only team in desperate need of a safety and he will be gone quickly. Do it Reese!
  15. Completely agree. Far more worried about our defensive backfield and the piling up of injuries before the season even gets underway.
  16. Giants have always liked their linemen to be versatile. Most have never played center. That gives Jones a little extra leverage in making the team because he can fill in at center without missing a beat.
  17. Not earth shaking news, but good to have depth to cover for all the injuries http://gmenhq.com/2015/08/25/giants-sign-ashlee-palmer-c-j-conway/
  18. I know that the Giants were planning on converting him to right guard, but he has 4 years experience as a tackle and even though his footwork wasn't perfect and may have appeared awkward, he didn't let the defense get their hands on Winston. And he looked better than Newhouse the other night. He has extra long arms, big hands, and a huge ass....the ass probably has much to do with the coaches thinking guard instead of tackle. But he's pretty fleet of foot and can run better than many tackles his size. He's fat, but fast. Personally, if he could handle the tackle position at a top college program going against other top college programs, he could be molded to handle tackle in the NFL. It's a heck of a lot easier to pick up a plug-n-play guard in the NFL than it is a tackle. I'd rather see the Giants mold him into a tackle for the future because they are so damn hard to get when you need one. I am so glad that we used our first round on Flowers. He certainly has a future on this team. It would be a friggin huge bonus if Hart also panned out. I hope they give him a chance to develop.
  19. No team in the NFL can keep up with the Giants when it comes to injuries.
  20. Huh...I hadn't heard that. This site is pretty much my whole communication with the outside world concerning the Giants. Although, I get an email a day from FanSideDaily that highlights stories about the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, Knicks, Orangemen, etc. And I usually click open a link that has a story about the Giants. This morning's story says Richburg is hurt. That's not good. http://empirewritesback.com/2015/08/26/new-york-giants-weston-richburg-sidelined-again/
  21. I don't think I've heard a single Giants fan even mention Hart except me. And I watched him closely in preseason and he looked better than Newhouse out there. That doesn't mean he's suddenly a starter...it's just that most fans don't even know he exists. He's not ready to be a starter yet - fer sure. But give him a year or two, and I see him becoming our starting RT. He's only played against top competition since he played LT at FSU at 17 yrs old...and how many 17 yr old freshmen can you name who got the majority of snaps at a critical position in college in one of the nation's top programs? I'm not saying, "pencil him in". I'm just saying that "he looks good and could be our future RT".
  22. I had asked this before and got no response, but did anyone watch Bobby Hart play RT in the last game? He looked pretty good and had better footwork than I expected. He's friggin huge and super young (turned 21 two weeks ago), yet has 4 years experience at LT for Florida State and managed to protect Jameis Winston. He's got tremendous lower body strength with a big ass butt. But is pretty quick on his feet for a big man. I think we have our future RT already on the squad. He certainly needs some NFL seasoning, but he's got a ton of experience already playing 4 years at the highest level of college ball, so he should be a quick study.
  23. The problem with the moniker "Ironman", is that it's easy to think, "he's gone this far without missing a game; therefore, Eli will never miss a game or go down for any reason". That's crazy thinking, but Eli has lulled us all into believing that. Eli has been extremely fortunate, but he is not made of iron. He plays hurt alot (which might explain some of his horrible games) when he should be honest with his coaches and admit he's playing at 60%. He hides his pain so that he can set a record of never missing a game...as though that means anything other than a little personal glory. But every QB gets hurt during their career and pretending they don't (or can't) is nonsense. One of these times when Jerry or Newhouse go the wrong direction, some big ole DE or LB is going to nail Eli harder than he's used to and one of these times he's not getting back up. Then everyone on this board is going to be awfully happy we have a decent QB to step in. Once Nassib is gone, we got shit for backup. Regardless....it's wrong to get comfortable and think that Eli is unhurtable, but that is naïve. Right now, Eli would do more for the team to admit when he's hurting so bad that it's detrimental to the team and let Nassib earn his paycheck until Eli is back in fighting shape instead of limping through a couple of boner type games simply to hold a meaningless record at the expense of the team. Hell, Eli could be throwing up with the flu bug and would not come out of a game. The team would be better off to use Nassib sparingly and put him in when Eli is looking like shit - it might even light a fire under Eli's ass when he starts playing as if he forgot what to do. Anyway, a transitional plan for a nice future handoff of the reigns to the backup who is getting reps in real games would be nice. Both QB's would probably be happier.
  24. A couple of points. NFL teams give up the ranch if they think they can get their hands on a decent QB to pilot their teams. Look what we gave up to get Eli. Look what the Eagles gave up last year just for the chance they could draft Mariota - "a QB who's never even started a single game in the NFL" Without a solid QB, no team is going anywhere. It's by far, the most important position on a team. As a metaphor, if each part of a body was indicated by a position on a football team, the QB would be the brain. Teams give up far more than a 1st round pick to get a QB they feel can lead their team to the promised land. Thinking that the only thing any team would give up for Nassib is a "3rd rounder" is literally nonsense. Would you be happy to give Nassib to the Eagles for a future 3rd round pick? Because I'd bet you any amount of money that the Eagles would pop the cork on champagne if they could screw the Giants that easily. You underestimate Nassib and for some reason seem to think he has the value of a backup linebacker or something. He's incredibly valuable where he is as an understudy of Eli. And if Eli does get hurt - and it's a possibility, for he isn't a god - we will be able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Nassib can pilot the team. Many teams don't even have a QB that would serve as a backup on a contending team. And there's no way for them to get one unless they throw games in order to get a high draft pick...and even then there are no guarantees.
  25. I don't know if anyone else is impressed with Wade, but I'm quickly becoming a fan. I have been worried sick over our lack of depth at CB and don't trust that DRC or the Prince can stay healthy for a full season. I've thought all along that our biggest vulnerability for this season is the problem of one of our starting CB's goes down...which is a big possibility considering the positions injury history and the Giants' injury history on top of that. And then we let a bunch of our backups go. Thurmond went to the Eagles and Bowman is now a Dolphin. We let Demps go last season who could fill in at CB and he's now with the Texans. We didn't let Bennett Jackson go, but he was in the process of being converted to a safety and now he's out with a knee injury that could end his season. My first instinct is to say, "we're fucked". Our defensive backfield is a friggin mess! But we picked up Trevin Wade off of the Lion's practice squad last January and he's been kind of an unknown commodity. However, he had a stellar game in the first pre-season game and picked up where he left off in the second pre-season game. He's fast and seems to understand the position well. And he's hungry and aggressive. Of course, he's not going to beat out Prince or DRC, but he sure looks like the best backup CB the Giants have had in awhile. He's a pleasant surprise and I hope he takes a big step forward in his NFL career by making Big Blue proud. My fingers are crossed anyway. We still need another quality CB in my mind. The safety position - it's been blown all to hell. Don't know what to say about that. I am crossing my fingers that Collins will be back and will be healthy all season and Taylor and Behre will come around, stay healthy, and surprise.
