  1. I agree that the Skins could give us a battle and hopefully, we don't beat them for 59 minutes then hand the game over in the last minute. Anyway, if there's one area that seems positive for the Giants it's stopping the run. We stuffed both Dallas and Atlanta in their ground game. We seem to be completely incapable of covering those short cross passes, which scares me more than the Skins' run game. I think our linebackers are so focused on the run that a simple dump pass over their heads is automatic. Our defense has been good enough to account for beating Dallas, even though the offense gave it back. If we don't get our offense on track, it's going to be an awfully long season.
  2. Parker cost us 2 games. I do not feel bad. Getting Ellis back is a positive thing. The O-line is very shallow right now. Kinda expecting a move to at least get one more linemen on the team. Haven't heard if Flowers will be ready for Thursday night or not. Sure hope so.
  3. Yeah...that's the real hard part to swallow. Giving games away after winning them. That hurts. It's a minor consolation that the big power teams, the Seahawks and Colts are also 0-2, but they simply got beat twice. They didn't handover the wins the way the Giants have. I will remain "cautiously optimistic" that taking the NFC East is still a realistic objective. But if we give another game away, I will lose all sense of optimism with this team.
  4. Man I hope you're right. This is almost a "must have" for me to keep my sanity over the winter. Anymore give-away games and my brain is going to explode and I'm going to stroke out. I hope that pointing out (to myself as much as to this crew) that the NFC East blows and is up for grabs offers hope. I just hope it's not false hope.
  5. Trying to keep my rose-colored glasses on and see something positive out of the debacle known as the Giants. If we were in pretty much any other division, we'd be screwed. But we're in the NFC East, and that turns out to be a blessing in disguise. Why you ask?? Because the NFC East Blows! Cowboys: Yeah, 2-0 thanks to the help of some calls by the refs. But they are without their two main players due to broken bones: Romo and Bryant. Yesterday's win was unimpressive and included averaging a paltry 2.9 yards per carry and they had more than 100 yards in penalties. Face it, the team sucks and they are leading the division Eagles: There can't be a more pathetic team in the league right now. They pick up the best RB in the NFL and coupled with their front line, DeMarco Murray has 11 total yards in 21 rushing attempts in two games. That's an average of about 6 inches per carry. And Bradford has already thrown 4 interceptions. Hardly the marks of a good team. Washington: This team might end up being better than either the Cowboys or the Eagles as they have a running game. But they lost to the lowly Dolphins and have a problem with self-imploding. They are not the cream of the crop in the NFC East. Giants: If Eli can finally get his head together and the team had a clue how to manage a clock, we'd be 2-0. But between Eli's "willies" and unbelievably inept clock management, we've managed to win two games in a row, then hand them over to the other team as a gift. But the defense is surprisingly solid having limited the Cowboys to 81 yards rushing, and Atlanta to 56 yards rushing. That's a huge improvement over last year. Also, our turnover ratio is on the positive side and Eli isn't throwing interceptions. Our special teams actually looks half way decent for the first time in several years and if Harris had some decent shoes, he'd be lighting up the place in returns. And Whig has a leg that is impressive. Vereen is coming around and settling into the offense and we still have OBJ. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bottom line: too early to panic given the state of the NFC East
  6. Refs who make bad calls that ends up determining the outcome of a game should be suspended without pay for 5 games. Bet they'd be damn sure they made the right calls.
  7. I don't follow Atlanta all that closely so I don't know much about their players. But they cut Charles Godfrey, a safety, to make room for newly signed Jake Long. Godfrey is 29 years old who was a 3rd rd draft pick of the Panthers. He's played CB and a lot of Nickel, but is slated as a safety at Atlanta. He is described as a physical hitter and has no injury history. From Wiki: "Godfrey was selected with the 4th pick in the 3rd round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He was quickly announced the team's free safety during camp that May, after reportedly impressing coaches. He started all 16 games at the free safety position and finished his rookie campaign with 61 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 1 interception. On September 10, 2011, the Panthers re-signed Godfrey to a 5-year/$27.5 million contract extension with $12.4 million guaranteed. On October 26, 2012, Godfrey was fined $7,875 for a chop block in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys. It was announced during the offseason before the 2014 NFL season that Godfrey would be moved from safety to nickelback" Anyone know something about this guy that shows we should take a look see? The fact that he also plays corner is not a bad thing since we are so shallow in our backfield.
  8. Fuck Bryant - he was never going to be the go to guy in that situation. I don't know if you've ever heard of Jason Witten, but he is a ten time pro-bowler and has racked up 10,562 yards in his career (not counting Sunday's game) and that's after barely playing his rookie year and sitting out all of the 2012 season from a lacerated spleen in a pre-season game. If there was anyone on that field that needed to be doubled up, it was Witten. He alone has beaten the Giants in at least a half dozen games all by himself. And that's what really pisses me off. After Witten makes the winning touchdown, all of the Giants' coaches standing on the sideline saying, "didn't see that one coming"........duhh. I saw it coming the moment Dallas got the ball back. I was on my couch screaming, "WATCH OUT FOR WITTEN". Ever since Romo took over at QB, he has always relied on Witten in every tough situation and it has never varied, ever! Without Witten, Romo would have lost his job years ago.
  9. Ha...good catch. Memory is shot...especially with names and it's even worse with spelling names.
  10. Yeah, I'm sure of that. I doubt they'd cut Parker, but if they did, they'd probably promote Julian Talley from the practice squad who has worked with the team and knows the play book and keep Lenz on the PS until he proved himself to the coaches. Interesting that Dallas is working out Hakeem Nix to replace Bryant while he's out. I doubt Nix would come back and work for TC, but it might not be the worst thought. There was a time not long ago we were thinking the Giants were going to give him a long term contract at 10M per. Guess the team knew what thye were doing when they let him walk.
  11. Flowers is one tough S.O.B. Flowers must have pissed off Jeremy Mincey when he pushed him aside for Jennings to pick up a badly needed first down because Mincey lost it. Probably thought he could handle a rookie like Flowers, but found out differently and took a swat at him. Flowers did well to stand down after he looked like he was about to get into it. Kid is going to be a star. So strong, so young, and he gets all excited for the other players when they make a play. Giants got a steal when they picked him up.
  12. Would love to take Jake for a stop gap on the right side. However, a google search shows me that Long is signing with Atlanta. That sucks. Although I doubt he'd suit up for this week's game because he needs some getting up to speed on some ways Atlanta does things...but it wouldn't surprise me they'd have him in for a few snaps. Was that Randy Gregory? I know that in college, Flowers dominated Gregory (the "best" defensive end in the draft, but filled with issues like brain death, drugs, retardation, etc.). But I saw Gregory get around Flowers once, and after that, Flowers started throwing him around as if it pissed him off. Note: Giants working out WR Josh Lenz http://nfltraderumors.co/giants-working-out-wr-josh-lenz/
  13. Here's a positive that no one is talking about. The Giants had more rushing yards than the Cowboys. Partly due to one big run by Jennings, but it's still a positive sign. The Giants held Dallas to 80 total yards rushing and that's a huge improvement over last year. The downside was that Romo using short chip shots racked up a lot of passing yards....BUT - we picked him off a few times, LOL But I'm thrilled that we held a team under 100 yds rushing.
  14. I honestly have not followed the moves made by Atlanta in the offseason. All I know is they drafted ahead of us this year (our lowest draft position in over a decade) which means they were worse than the Giants last year and to me, that seems "lowly" considering the teams drafting ahead of us. I know they took Vic Beasley, but don't know if that is what it takes for the team to turn around. Their 6 wins amounted to 2 wins against Tampa Bay, 2 wins against the Saints, etc., so that's not particularly impressive. Regardless, I certainly don't take them lightly, but I don't see them in the same league as the Eagles. Maybe they made good decisions in offseason, I don't know.
  15. All four teams in the NFC East are 0-1 except Dallas. Dez Bryant (Dallas' biggest weapon) has suffered a broken foot and will be out about 6 weeks (this could likely be a nagging problem for him after he returns) DeSean Jackson (Redskin's biggest weapon) has a pulled hamstring that will keep him out for at least 3-4 weeks and could likely be a problem throughout the season once he returns Eagles suffered no significant injuries, but showed they aren't ready for prime time after getting beat by lowly Atlanta. The Giants suffered no significant injuries - CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??? --------------------------------------------------- The first loss of the season stings like crazy...mainly because we handed the win over to the Cowboys from complete stupidity and we all know now that we should be the only team in our division in the win column. However, the whole division sucked and the Cowboys, who were given a gift win, lost their biggest offensive threat that has got to hurt them.
  16. Well...you're right about my memory. Sucks to get old. I can't remember names for shit - even people I've known for years. Many details about the past are fuzzy. Might have a lot to do with how I spent the 60's. I remember being livid and carried it around with me for days years on end. We had no business losing that game with the lead we had. I remember last night's game very, very well...and I'm hoping for it's memory to become foggy ASAP.
  17. Me too. This game just won't let me go...it's like a pebble in my shoe and there's no way to take off the shoe and get rid of it. I haven't had a game gnaw at me like this one in a long time. The "comeback of the century by San Francisco" in the 2002 NFC Wild Card Game that knocked the Giants out after a huge lead was one that hung on me forever. And that was completely due to a bad call in which a flag was thrown after a completion that would seal the win for the Giants for "ineligible receiver" and review of the play it was discovered the receiver was completely eligible - so the call was bogus. It took away a win from the team and handed it over on a platter to San Francisco. In fact, the NFL actually apologized to the Giants' front office a week later after it was too late to do any good and had literally handed the 49'rs an undeserved win and sent the Giants home for the season. Now that I think of it...that's a pebble in my other shoe. Wish I hadn't even brought it up because now I will dwell on it. In short - I can't get last night's game outa my head and it has ruined my day and is making me question my sanity. As Forrest Gump said, "Stupid is as stupid does"...and that last night was showing the world how stupid a football team can be by handing away a guaranteed win with a minute to go. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!
  18. He almost got it in 2010 when he picked JPP and Linvall Joseph back to back, but the rest of the draft went to shit...and the next 2 drafts didn't help build a trench. Just imagine how smart the front office would look if we snagged La'el Collins in the 5th round this year instead of Mykkele Thompson. Instead, we let the Cowboys pick him up as a FA. That would've been ideal. Of course, we are all geniuses in hind sight.
  19. Left side looks promising. Right side, not so much. Flowers, Pugh, and Richburg are solid and will improve as they grow together. Schwartz and Newhouse are stop gaps that are not great. I expected more from Schwartz and maybe he'll surprise me. I don't understand how the system works, but I've heard that after game one, the Giants could sign Jake Long without some kind of contract obligation (whatever that means). He'd be a big plus on the right side. All in all, our front line did okay considering the line they were up against. The Cowboys suck, but they have built the trench. Something TC promised to do when he came to New York exclaiming that games are won in the trenches. Seems they didn't start drafting with that in mind until 3 years ago. 2013: Pugh, Hankins, Moore 2014: OBJ, Richburg, Bromley 2015: Flowers, Collins, Odighizuwa No surprise that Reese was criticized for piss poor drafts, but looked like a genius in the last 3 drafts. In the last three drafts, he concentrated on the trench in the first 3 rounds unless there was a spectacular skill player sitting there like OBJ. At least Reese is finally getting it. Better late than never.
  20. Eli was throwing under pressure the whole game. If he doesn't have time to let a receiver run a route, then they ad lib a play that is dangerous because it can be intercepted. Eli is so worried about another record setting year of interceptions that he throws the ball away too early....like at the end of the game when he should have thrown the ball at Fells and get 4 fresh new downs on the 18 inch line. There was also a lot of holding going on and OBJ was draped, slapped, pulled, tripped, and harassed non stop. Coupled with a QB that has to get rid of the ball, it's not really surprising. What they needed desperately was a second receiver that could actually catch balls. I think Harris should be seeing more time on the field. He's a real gritty receiver even though he's short. As it was, there was no real need to cover Parker and Randle acts like he's playing hurt. The Cowboys focused their game on OBJ by keeping him draped and putting pressure on Eli. That's my take for what it's worth.
  21. If the coaches decided to use both the 3rd and 4th down to try and punch it in, there's a damn good chance they'd have gotten in. If not, the clock would have been so detrimental to the Cowboys that nothing short of a Hail Mary pass could bring them back. They would have been working out of their end zone with about 15 seconds on the clock. And if they were lucky enough to get within field goal range and make it - we'd go to overtime, which sure beats the hell out of a loss in regulation. I believe that they probably could've run it in if they decided they'd use both 3rd, and 4th down tries on the 1 yd line. It certainly looks like a smart move in hind sight.
  22. I understand that. It comes down to sending everyone back to elementary football school and re-taking the course, "Clock Management 101".
  23. All I can think is that they panicked. Eli obviously panicked and the coaches on the sidelines looked dumbfounded. Their minds went blank and they stopped thinking and simply watched.
  24. The whole thing centered around - A FIELD GOAL DOES THE GIANTS NO GOOD!!! Take two running plays in the 3rd and 4th downs. If you don't score - so what, you've burned up the clock and left Romo with horrible field position and no time to work a miracle. KICKING THE FIELD GOAL WAS THE DUMBEST MOVE EVER - THERE WAS NOT ONE SINGLE THING TO BE GAINED BY KICKING A FIELD GOAL EXCEPT FOR THE COWBOYS BECAUSE IT STOPPED THE CLOCK AND GAVE THEM A CHANCE TO RETURN A KICKOFF TO GOOD FIELD POSITION. Why, oh why, oh why did we kick a field goal. We didn't need it to win and it was nothing more than a coach decision to give the Cowboys a turnover.
  25. That's a head scratcher. They need to get Jeremy Davis in the game and let him get his feet wet. He may not have the routes down yet, but his hands are like a combination fly-paper and vice grips. Zero drops at UConn, even with an incredibly inept QB in Connecticut. He catches balls when he's being mugged. He has to be an upgrade over Parker. Even if they have yet to find faith in Davis, they are paying Dwayne Harris a billion dollars, might as well use him. He's proven he can catch a ball in tight spots. I have a hunch TC will do to Parker what he did to David Wilson after his early fumbles. Sit on the bench boy, and watch how it's done!
