My biggest issue with the Beckham trade is only that the Giants has and have nothing at WR behind him. The Steelers have Smith Shuster who is going to be a top 5 WR this year. The Giants have Shepard, a chain mover, and an aging, ineffective Golden Tate (at least last year). Im hoping between Coleman and Engram, Beckhams production can be covered but the big play ability still isnt there.

Of course Im not saying that Tate is anywhere near as good as Odell, but why do you think he was ineffective? Guy had more yards after the catch then anyone.

The problem with your comparison to Browns is that Brown wanted off the Steelers and was getting into arguments with the team in the locker room, not to mention he basically benched himself the final week for the season by not showing up to any practice.

 

OBJ showed up and did what again to that effect? Did he ever ask to be released? Was he getting into fights in the locker room? Outside of the mysterious benching circumstances which I assume has more to do with the Giants trying to prevent injury to a player they planned on trading.

 

The Steelers made it known they wanted Brown gone due to his actions and took the first offer they could get, teams knew they were desperate to trade the disgruntled WR.

 

The Giants activley shopped OBJ trying to get teams to pony up a package worthy of a top 5 WR.

 

Instead they had to settle for table scraps from the Browns in project safety and a 1st round pick not even inside the top 15 lol

Well there was that one time he got his ass kicked by a field goal practice net. Sure that doesnt count as a locker room fight, but it was still pretty pathetic

Does he really believe the only reason they were on TV is because of him? My goodness, how does he walk around carrying that ego? Truth is, as good as he is, it never translated into anything special as far as the team was concerned. The one chance he had to enter into greatness, he completely blew it. I don't think the Miami trip had anything to do with that either. Could very well be that he just chokes in big games. Surprised he even made it that far into the season without getting hurt.

 

The only complaint I agree with is we should have traded him sooner.

 

Please for the love of God, please let the Giants have a great year. If for nothing more then to show him he wasn't anywhere near as special or important as he believes he is.

I have been watching a ton of film on this kid. I firmly believe if he had an even average Oline, and receivers that could catch, he would have been projected to go in the top five.

 

He reads defenses really well, and makes smart decisions. The kid is fast too. Ive watched him outrun corners. He has won games seemingly single handily.

 

I think this kid has a great chance to be a good QB. Cant wait to see him with a great running game, and a few seconds to throw.

 

I dont understand why he was ever considered to have a weak arm.

I have a feeling Eli is gonna have a career year. This is the first time since he has started where there is a real possibility he gets benched for not performing well. Minus the Macadoo mess, but no one saw that coming.

 

He has had since the draft to chew on this. I think he rises to the occasion.

Yeah you gotta be excited about this group of kids coming in for the secondary. I hate watching the growing pains of corners and safeties though. Glad we have a somewhat good mix of rooks and vets.

Lets face it, money hasnt held them back- its been poor decision making and a little bad luck. If the QB is good, then it all will gel. If hes not, all the cap space in the world wont kelp.

I think money, or the lack of properly managing it has held them back a lot. Heck between Odell, Eli, and Vernon way to much cap space was swallowed up.

 

Now it wouldnt have been that bad if Reece knew what he was doing while drafting linemen, but still picking up talent in FA is hard to do when 3 guys are sucking up half the cap space.

The idea of being 100 million under the cap in Jones's first year playing gets me excited. Besides I really don't drink that much anyway. Nor do I usually make it to more then one game year. Beer is cheap at the corner store. Plus I got the 52 inch TV for this season.,

 

Hopefully there are some really good linemen on both sides in FA next year. Get a great pass rusher, and a piece or two, plus some depth for the O-line. By then the new guys in the secondary should be playing (crossing fingers) lights out.

 

I mean all they have to do now is pass block, run block, pick up third downs, pass the ball down the field, stop the run game on defence, stop opponents TEs, not fall apart in the secondary, and then actually finish games in the fourth quarter and maybe they have a winning season.

 

And also wouldn't we be missing Vernon more on defence instead of Odell if rushing the passer is a concern?

Yes they will have to play football.

 

Bettcher definitely has his work cut out for him. Losing Vernon, regardless of his insane contract will hurt during the games he would have actually played. They are going to have to get creative, and hope that end from the cardinals works out.

If the Giants can find a way to rush the passer, no one here is gonna miss Odell.

He did call out his QB while on the team. Heck he has taken a couple indirect swipes at him since he left. When asked directly, two months after being paid the highest in league history for WR, he wouldnt even say he wanted to be in NY. Directly asked mind you.

I'm not in denial of anything. I haven't defended Odell in any way. Though comparing him to TO, when you really look at what both of them have said and done, it just doesn't compare. And I cant stand Odell.

 

Personally I'm more then ready to move on from Odell.

I got no hard feelings, and have good memories from when he use to play. That last year he was reaching a level seldom seen.

 

I bet he has a lot of regrets. If he could have just kept quiet and supported his QB and coach, he probably would have a ring right now, and walked away one of the most beloved and respected Giant of all time. Its a shame.

Obviously till we see him in a few games, there isnt much to form a good opinion. Im definitely more excited to see though then I was when he was first drafted.

 

A few players are going out of their way to praise him. Guess that could just be what they are expected to say though.
