  1. Let's go boys. Camp starts in 48 hours!!! From NY Post
  2. we could certainly use a full back. If the guy can play some h-back even better. It would be nice to be able to kick a guy out to the left side and give Diehl some help.
  3. ssems a bit small. Why didn't he play last year? injury?
  4. anyone know anything abou this guy From the NY Post
  5. They did. It is called "Giants Among Men". excellent piece of sports journalism
  6. I so hope you are right. I will grant you the very early read I have on Spagnulo (sp?) is pretty positive. It would be nice to get the D off the field on 3rd and long instead of giving up first downs on crossing routes while we play soft cover 2. Maybe he can get it done.
  7. got to let us talk shite now. With 2100+ all purpose yards gone, no left tackle and major question marks in the secondary we will only be able to do so for so long. About the only thing we have going for us right now is that the entire division is pretty week. Philly has a qb who can't stay on the field, no backup and and no wrs. Dallas has an unproven QB, a week secondary, question marks of their own at OT, an average running game and an unproven coaching staff and the Redskins, well the Redskins are just plain awful. We could easily suck and still go 5-1 in this division.
  8. Yes LT played in an era when the NFC East was by far the best division in football. As you correctly point out WASH won 3, cowpats won 2 and as you forgot to mention the Giants won 2. There was also a strike year in there. So half of his carreer the superbowl champ came from the East. Finishing 3rd in the NFC east during this time still would have been good enough for first in any of the other divisions.
  9. The west coast offense did not come about in one fell swoop, this I will grant the dog. Certainly the foundations where laid in the 60s and 70s when Walsh worked as an assistant with the Bengals ( Brown ) and the Raiders ( Gillman ) as I mentioned. The important thing to remember is that the NFL is a copycat league. LT exploded onto the scene during his rookie year in 1981 ( in fact the Giants went from 425 pts allowed in '80 to 257 in '81!!!!!!! ) and many teams immediately started to emulate the new defensive pass rushing schemes that LT made possable. They drafted looking for the same skill set / body type and they copied the schemes so I can't lend to much credence to the not in the division defence. Furthermore prior to the '80s, teams almost exclusively relied on RBs to pick up blitzing line backers. In the divisional playoffs in '81 ( Giants lost to the 49ers 38-24 ) Bill Walsh employed a unique blocking scheme. Walsh assigned a guard ( John Ayers was their best blocker ) to block Taylor. This was a revolutionary shift in historic blocking schemes and was adopted in the '81 playoffs as a direct response to LT in his Rookie season!!!!! Teams in subsequent seasons adjusted to this practice by bringing middle linebacjkers on blitzes through the the guard hole. Walsh adjusted again and started assigning offensive left tackles to block OLBs. Meanwhile back on the East Coast Joe Gibbs was also desperate for an answer to the Taylor style onslaught. His response was to use a 2 TE / H-Back formation as a direct response. This formation as we know is now de riguer for NFL teams but this again was a direct response to the LT effect. Coach Gibbs said of LT in a 1999 Sports Illustrated retro spective "[w]e had to try in some way have a special game plan just for Lawrence Taylor. Now you didn't do that very often in this league but I think he's one person that we learned the lesson the hard way. We lost ball games." The dog must in my humble opinion concede that it is quite telling that the two most succesful football coaches in the NFL during LTs tenure ( They accounted for 6 titles from 81 - 91 ) where foreced to "Taylor" their offensive formations and blocking schemes to achieve their goals. Undeniably the best defensive player of his era. Certainly, based on impact on the way the game is played, the best defensive player of all time and quite arguably the greatest player ever. HLB acknowledges a small bias due to the fact that he is a rabid Giants fan.
  10. while Bill Walsh was certainly heavily influenced by Sid Gillman and Paul Brown back in the 60s and 70s he is considered by most students of the game to be the father of the West Coast Offense. A great deal of the schemes he implemented in the 80s in SF where designed to adress changes in the way defenses played as a result of Lawrence Taylor's immediate dominance on entering the league in 1981. Modern Pass Rushing schemes all grew out of his style of play. Offensive line play and overall formations generally and the west coast offense specifically where developed as an answer to the shifts in defensive pass rushing schemes. This humble observer of NFL Football and the Giants over the last 4 decades feels that in this instance the dog would do well to reconsider his position.
  11. The west coast offense was created and designed as an answer to LT. He was not only a great player he changed the way whole offenses schemed. That is a MAJOR impact for one guy.
  12. no one in nyc gets nfl network. Time warner does not carry it either.
  13. maybe so but without a legit starter at left tackle where we are going is right into the crapper.
  14. Here is the post's coverage guy seems like a more or less solid veteran. It is always good to add depth on the o-line but this does not adress our problem at left tackle. Maybe we could trade Shockey or Burress for one. Burress only shows up for half the games and although Jerremy plays very hard he can hardly be described as durable at this point.
  15. yea like Bergen county needed another fucking mall anyway.
  16. yea let me know if you here anything. One of mu buddies said he got a letter from them.
  17. Did anyone else hear anything about the parking situation this year? Supposedly the building of the totally unnesasary new stadium will eliminate 5000 parking spots this year. The Giants plan to make people pre pay for parking and are going to limit the number of passes that can be purchased by each season ticket holder. No pass? You will have to park off site and take a bus over. this really sucks big time.
  18. can't be all sun and roses Nas. Of course we WANT every guy on the team to be a consensus pro bowler but one has to be realistic.

    Mini Camp

good to hear about the Rb as well. I also heard he had a conversation with Reese and promised to stay out of jail!!!!

    Mini Camp

well it was an initial reaction after one day of practice. Probably a little early to write him off but hey I'm crabby in the morning!!!
  21. Not sure Webster is going to step up as the second corner. I hope he can but we will see. This guy Ross is going to need work. I think McQuarters will be the 2 and Webster will play nickel. The whimper thing is a joke. They said that stuff about him because they did not want to look like fools on the Monday after the draft. Look for us to either make a trade ( they have been talking to Cleveland supposedly ) or pick up a "cap casualty" veteran going into camp. Not sure this kid Boss makes the team. Might wind up on the practice squad. He has very little experience and apparently has no idea how to block. Especially if we are stuck with Diehl at LT we will need a blocker as the #2 TE to help out along with Finn as the Hback I suppose. Other than that it looks about right to me.
  22. Reading the papers this morning two things struck me. Our second round pick seems to have a good attitude and soft hands. He also seems to be very pollished. He outshone evryone else in camp and may be a solid number 3 for us this year. Our first round draft pick seems poised to assume the role formerly played by the great Elvis Patterson. For those of you too young to remember Elvis his nickname was "toast". This kid apparently was getting beat like a drum all day saturday by a bunch of dudes that will soon be bagging groceries at the piggly wiggly. looks like our ability to draft talent in the first round has not changed despite the departurre of that rug wearing buffoon Accorsi.
  23. don't discount guy whimper translates to.. yea we fucked up by not taking staley
  24. I was a bit dissapointed with the first round pick. Their was a solid lt in staley still on the board and instead we take Ross, a corner with questionable catch up speed? smith should be solid. Alford will be good and fills a need. These dts take time to develop though deossie. I love the pick. probably because I always liked "beach ball". Smart is good at lb though and this guy has some size and speed on him. he will contribute right away on coverage teams and as long snapper and can probably develop as a good ss lb. he has the size and speed to jam and cover tes the te boss is a huge dissapointment to me. If we where going to take a te we should have gotten one that can block. Diehl is going to need help. Sincre they passed on Staley in rd 1 they should have looked for a blocker here koets is going to the practice squad the rb in the 7th could turn out to be a great pick. we needed a guy like that and they are saying if he played his sr year he would have gone much higher overall i would say c- / d+
