  1. We haven't really blitzed all that much this year, contrary to public perception. Our front four has done a great job, and that will have to continue Sunday. If we have to blitz to generate pressure -- something we haven't had to do with regularity this year -- then we'll be in serious trouble on defense. Their receivers are too good and too physical.
  2. I don't have faith in anyone, past or present, to be able to single-handedly shut down Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. If you blitz them a lot and expose your secondary, they'll burn you. They might be the two best receivers in football today.
  3. Probably the defense that's trying to not let him catch passes. I'd say that's affecting him. It's easy to take away a team's biggest threat when they have a marginal QB, poor pass pro, and no running game. It's also easy to see how that scenario would lead to more production for a possession receiver who does his best work in short-to-intermediate zones. Has Chad Johnson even done a crazy celebration this year??
  4. Before this year, Chad Johnson was routinely putting up 90 catches and 1400 yards. Undisputably one of the absolute best players at his position. His team was victimized by his celebrations? Not a chance. They were victimized by shoddy management that would populate the team with misanthropes. That was the cancer debilitating that team, not the guys doing the (unpenalized) Riverdance in the end zone, or jokingly proposing to a cheerleader. Maybe you could call him a cancer because of contract disputes and a recently mercurial relationship with the media, but then you're shifting the terms of the debate.
  5. No one is disputing the disarray. Accorsi took over in 1998, and we won two playoff games during his tenure. He's gone to great lengths following his retirement to advertise himself as the man responsible for the product on the field, but it's just another brick in his wall of duplicity. He wanted no part of Coughlin coaching this team and was overruled by ownership. And his drafts were terrible until Coughlin and Reese joined the picture.
  6. He's an entertainer committing victimless crimes. It certainly hasn't affected his play (though Ryan Fitzpatrick has)...
  7. And on their next possession, they were on their way to making it a 20-17 game if not for an unfortunate bounce. His TD put them back in the game
  8. McKenzie is 29 and will turn 30 in May. O'Hara is 31 and will turn 32 in June. OL can usually play well into their mid-30s, so I wouldn't be preparing for their departures any time soon. For what it's worth, here's the DOB for our other three starters: Diehl -- Sept. 15, 1980 Seubert -- March 30, 1979 Snee -- January 18, 1982
  9. Eh, they still had a strong opportunity to make it a contest. I wouldn't classify it with T.J. Duckett's antics after reducing a deficit from 38-3 to 38-10.
  10. Not when you're paid to play a game. I don't think it's silly that Ray Lewis pumps his fist after a great play. He's hardly the worst offender in that department, either -- there are guys on the Giants that are more demonstrative. I don't think Chad Johnon or Terrell Owens are silly. I certainly don't think Jose Reyes and his neo-generation celebratory choreography are silly. It's a game, guys are having fun, and ultimately it's entertainment. I think it's equally ridiculous that Jake Locker gets flagged for tossing the ball upwards after a TD in the final seconds against BYU. It sucks that college players can't -- god forbid -- spike the ball. That would tarnish the integirty and sportsmanship of such an exemplary organization in the NCAA. In the end, it's emotional human beings playing an exciting game, not automatons collecting a paycheck.
  11. I'm wondering who made up the quote in that article introduction: O'Conner or Accorsi. My guess is Accorsi. He's been doing a fantastic job mesmorizing the local media (Francessa, O'Conner, etc.) into believing he was the visionary architect of the Super Bowl Giants. No surprise, he was always a better publicist than manager.
  12. Sorry for disputing stupid criticisms against a pretty great player. He's a douche for being emotional during the game, and I'm a dick for acknowledging that even after a game where he and his crew of flunkies were supremely outclassed. Next week: Golfer calls Kurt Warner a "douche" for praising Jesus after 5-yard completions.
  13. It's hard to believe that we got a 2nd and a 5th from the Saints in that deal. I suspect they're probably regretting it by now, considering -- beyond the PFT speculation and the Brees incident -- that Shockey has been outplayed by Billy Miller. It's equally hard to believe that there were people that adamantly insisted we would miss Jeremy Shockey. Where are his valiant defenders now?
  14. Yeah, the asshole celebrates good plays by the formerly top defense in the league. What a dick!!
  15. Good call, you nailed it. For what it's worth, no player has been suspended by the league for a first offense in drunk driving.
  16. I can't envision any scenario where we let Jacobs walk. He's too good and too endemic to our team identity. His market value will likely be commensurate with Marion Barber III's contract extension, and that's a survivable price for such a valuable player. And as long as we continue to deploy a mutli-back timeshare, whether it's Ward or Bradshaw or Ware sharing carries, we'll be able to preserve Jacobs for a long time.
  17. A lot of teams missed the boat on Derrick Ward, and with good reason. He was coming off a broken fibula, and aside from a five or six games in 2007, he had never demonstrated the ability to be a terrific rotational RB, let alone a starter. Ward tested free agency and ended up settling for a one-year contract with the Giants. 31 teams passed on the opportunity to sign him. They made the mistake, not Jerry Reese, who is essentially playing $1 million for 1200 total yards, 40+ receptions, 5.3 yards per carry and almost 10 yards/reception, and steady pass protection. If Ward ends up walking, the Giants have an impossibly good hedge against his departure in not only Ahmad Bradshaw but also Danny Ware.
  18. Sure, blitz Warner incessantly and leave three excellent receivers in single-coverage. That's the ticket.
  19. Kiwi had a bit of a head start, no? And Flacco had the angle but kinda gave up at the end. That was pathetic, although I was otherwise impressed with his ability.
  20. It's highly unlikely they fire Reid, and if they did, Spags isn't the answer for them. They already have his mentor in Jim Johnson, and I imagine they'd want to revamp their offense instead bringing in a collaborator on D...
  21. Owens is their only deep threat. Witten, Crayton, and the RBs make up a huge percentage of their completions, and they complete 65% of their passes. Based on that, it just doesn't add up. You can't attribute their success to the so-called Madden offense; so much of their yardage comes from short and intermediate routes to guys not named T.O. Although it is interesting to see someone sing the praises of an offense but framing it as a criticism of the QB.
  22. Nah, I just think their willingness and ability to take shots down field actually underlines Romo's value as QB. Other teams and QBs would pad their stats too if they could make those types of throws. For what it's worth, out of Witten's 96 catches last season, just 12 (12.5 %) went for 20+ yards. By comparison, 8 out of Jeremy Shockey's 57 receptions last year (14%) were over 20 yards. So it doesn't appear that they use their TE differently than anyone else.
  23. Harkening back to Tim Carter. That was his signature play!
