Yep...apparently he was going to make his money or retire. Suppose the Jets were going to cut him and perhaps he just didn't want to play anywhere else. Shame, he could've played another year or two (had he been cut) on a different team and not even had to move stadiums.

You think Reese called him yet?

I think overall he wanted out. A few articles cited he has concern about after football life.

I think that once a player retires, the contracted team still holds the rights to the player until the contract would've ended. So I'm not sure Reese could call if he wanted to...depends how far out Ferguson was signed through.

 

Keeps players from 'retiring' just to force their way out an onto a different team.
