So Boley Had More Legal Issues In February

its probably right under my nose so but i couldnt find the thread where boley was being discussed, and don't remember if it was this new stuff or the old stuff, but here:

Ex-New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley was quietly arrested for child abuse back in February ... 3 days after he was cut by the team ... TMZ has learned. Boley -- a starting linebacker in Super Bowl XLVI -- had been under investigation in Alabama for a 2011 incident involving his son, who was 5 years old at the time. The details of the alleged abuse are unclear, although sources tell us the allegations were of a physical nature and NOT sexual abuse. Here's what we know ... Boley's case was scheduled to go in front of a grand jury in February 2013 ... but before that got under way, the 30-year-old NFL star struck a plea deal with prosecutors. Court officials in Etowah County, AL tell TMZ ... Boley pled guilty to child abuse -- and in exchange, he was ordered to enroll in a pre-trial diversion program and upon completion the charge would be dropped. Boley was also required to turn himself into authorities. He was booked on February 8, smiled for a mug shot and was released from custody later that day. Seems the NY Giants were hip to Boley's legal issues ... 'cause he was unexpectedly cut by the team on February 5 ... 3 days before Boley turned himself in to authorities. Boley is currently a free agent, on the hunt for a job. A rep for Boley had no comment -- but sources connected to the NFL star tell us Boley plans to comply with the terms of the plea deal.

This is the accusation from the mother who was also looking for a 5-fold increase in her child support. Plea deal means we'll never know if this happened or he just payed her to go away.

Good point. Only the family will know the truth in a deal like this.

I think the chronology is pretty damn suspicious; she took him to court for the 5-fold increase in child support, no mention of abuse, then after her claim was denied she made the abuse accusation.

Agreed. Looks like a money grab, but it's a he-said she-said deal......too bad their kid is being used a bargaining chip.

It could also be she held those charges as leverage for the money grab... thinking the guy would give in... when he didn't, she pulled out the abuse card... who knows. Just one more reason you have to do your homework when picking a partner...

There is a guy over at BBI who says his sister is a social worker assigned to this case, and he says that he is a legitimate dirt bag that beat his kid, and not only that, but that the kid is also autistic.

If that's the case, she should be unceremoniously fired from her job. I don't care how big a scumbag Boley is, that's a pretty clear violation of his rights.

Very true.

Agreed, but if true means that he shouldn't be a Giant, imo, we shouldn't employ child abusers, especially when the child has a mental disability. I hope that is not true.

Agreed. I never thought he was that great for our defense, anyway. Too much chasing after ball carriers.

From PFT

On Thursday, reports surfaced that former Giants linebacker Michael Boley pleaded guilty to felony child abuse in Alabama three days after being released.

Boley has addressed the situation, via a statement issued by his agents.

Here's the full text of it: "Mr. Boley is dealing with a personal matter that allegedly happened nearly two years ago. Michael has been and always will be a loving and supportive father to all of his children. Due to the circumstances of the situation, he has chosen to enter into an arrangement with the Courts that serves the best interest of his family. During this difficult time, Michael will gain strength from his family and continue to be the loving father that everyone knows him to be. We ask that everyone respect the Boley family's privacy at this time."

The statement implies, subtly, that Boley pleaded guilty not because he's guilty but in order to close the door on a bad situation. And that can be a somewhat dangerous proposition for folks who have pleaded guilty to any crime, since pleading guilty means accepting responsibility. Any statement that undermines the acceptance of responsibility opens the door to an effort to invalidate the plea agreement.

Boley for now remains in a diversion program, and if he successfully completes it the entire situation will disappear.
