Treehugger
Scores in Red are snapped from inside the 20. Scores in Green are from 20-30. I'm basing this on a 15 yard snap for FG attempts. vs Washington 1st Quarter FG L.Tynes 28 yd. Field Goal (12-67, 7:19) 2nd Quarter TD M.Manningham 30 yd. pass from E.Manning (L.Tynes kick) (6-44, 3:10) TD O.Umenyiora 37 yd. fumble return (L.Tynes kick) 4th Quarter FG L.Tynes 45 yd. Field Goal (8-44, 4:47) FG L.Tynes 28 yd. Field Goal (10-66, 6:11) vs Dallas 1st Quarter FG L.Tynes 30 yd. Field Goal (9-71, 4:29) TD B.Johnson 34 yd. interception return (L.Tynes kick) 2nd Quarter FG L.Tynes 28 yd. Field Goal (7-18, 4:06) TD M.Manningham 22 yd. pass from E.Manning (L.Tynes kick) (3-28, 0:35) 4th Quarter TD S.Smith 22 yd. pass from E.Manning (L.Tynes kick) (4-73, 1:58) FG L.Tynes 36 yd. Field Goal (7-40, 4:47) FG L.Tynes 37 yd. Field Goal (11-56, 3:40) (this is a special case so I'll leave it out) So far we've seen 4 FGs 0 TDs (5 FG attempts - 12 points) from the Red Zone and 2 FG and 3 TDs (27 points incl. conversions) from 20-30 yards out. Nice of you to put together the stats. The Giants should be going for the end zone as soon as they get near the 30 yard line because once they reach the 20, it's all over.....well, except the "hold-your-breath" field goal attempts by Tynes. This is a problem with our receivers being less experienced, so they can't get open when it comes to zone coverage... the very reason why we do good at long passes vs. short ones. Hopefully they will find a way to get this fixed.

Did you notice that the Cowboys had no problem throwing to Witten when they were in the red zone. There is nothing more dangerous for short yardage, especially in the ten - twenty yard gain area, than a big, tall, good catching TE.

fishgutmartyr
Thanks for doing this, Tree. Did you notice one of your "Red Zone" TDs is a run from 19 yards out? I remember hearing arguments about our redzone problems going back to Fassel, though. Is there something inherently wrong with the way the Giants traditionally play offense? I think we have been fairly consistent in being too vanilla when we reach the 20 yard line.
