Beckum Signed

I have a feeling about this guy... that he is going to be a tremendous football player.

He has the potential to be a Shannon Sharpe type. He's also kind of like the Jet's Dustin Keller.

If it weren't for his injury last year, Beckum would have been a 2nd or maybe 1st round pick.

5-7 from 40-49

and jack please dont confuse not thinking carneys great with liking tynes.

tynes isnt great either.

On the surface 5-7 might seem ok. Of course, that doesn't include an 0-2 in the playoffs from that range, so for the season he was 5-9. I think a low 40's fg should be near automatic. But, as I went into before, there were many times that we would've been in fg range for most kickers in the NFL, and Tom wouldn't let Carney kick them. At least a couple of those tries were in a dome. Carney had only 1 50 yard plus ATTEMPT, that being the one in Minnesota. Out of the regular, starting kickers in the NFL last year that played a full or near full season, only Jay Feeley had fewer attempts from 40+. And Feely was 4-5 from 40-49 and 2-2 from 50+. Neil Rackers is the only other kicker besides Carney that had only 8 attempts from 40+, and Rackers was 6-6 from 40-49, and 1-2 from 50+.

Just about every other kicker in the NFL were given many more attempts from 40+.

Not only that, but when Tynes came back, he had to be the kickoff specialist because Carney sucked so much at kickoffs and the Giants couldn't afford for the opponent to have starting field position near their own 40 yard line after every kickoff. In fact, I think even Feagles last year was doing the kickoffs for awhile if I remember correctly.

So Jack wants a kicker whose range off grass tops out at about 45 yards, and can't kick it deep on kickoffs, to the point where we have to carry another kicker on the 53 man roster to perform those duties.

I'm not crazy about Tynes, but I still prefer him over Carney.
