  1. Well if you're going to list Cromartie you can't ignore Allen. I agree his injury was gruesome but you don't run the kind of times he posted unless you're significantly healed.

Don't worry about listing Winston Justice. There's isn't a chance in hell he's there when we pick. I was referring more to Marcus McNeill and Daryn Colledge. McNeill is carrying a first round grade and could be there when we select. Colledge is a bit of a reach at 25. I don't agree that we should take him there but I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility.

I know I'm butting in here a bit, but I don't see us going OT at all in the first, regardless of who's there, especially given the excellent depth at other positions.

  2. I'm Starting to think Mel Kiper is an idiot.

    Starting?

How this guy can justify his existence for the other 9 months of the year is beyond me. And what he does do during the remaining 3 is often worthless come draft day. I do like some of his commentary on what the young players can bring to the table, but his assessment on what a team needs is often times highly inaccurate.

  3. i love the term "quality depth" that is tossed around here moreso and eaiser than a 3rd team offensive linemen tossing around William Joseph...we have been signing "quality depth" for several years now when in reality we need "quality starters" in multiple areas...but thats ok, "quality depth" sounds terrific for moral, when you sign nobodys to a squad that later get cut after camp...

ill resign the right to cheer and applaud the FO until i see the finished product and scoreboards with W's once the season begins...I reside in the here and now, unlike the most of you, who at the print of a nobody signing cheers victory, before the guy even puts on a uniform...thats if he makes the team

    get a grip

Oh, don't get me wrong, I certainly am not singing the praises of the front office on every move they make. Quality depth is needed to go far. Quality starters too. I was in agreement with you that we have glaring holes, and again, I agree that we're lacking some quality starters at this point. Particularly at OLB and DT.

But quality depth is equally important as quality starters. Every single player is simply one blown knee or one serious concussion or one busted ankle away from riding the pine for the rest of the year.

So, while you resign the right to cheer and applaud, I'll reserve the right to downplay and criticize. It would be different if you actually changed your opinion and your stance from one move to the next. But the fact remains that the broken record is getting old.

  4. how could you like this pathetic offseason so far if we have glaring holes that will likely be un-attended too heading into the 2006 season ??

Well, for one, the biggest problem we had last year was our pass defense. It was pretty poor from start to finish. Yes, there were some injuries that contributed to the poor play, but all in all, this was our weakest unit on the field. We made quite a few moves, the largest of which was the signing of Sam Madison and RW McQuarters to bolster an uncertain secondary. Granted, both have probably seen their better days and both won't be around for the next decade, but at this point in time, I feel that they're both adequate. I also believe we'll spend a day 1 draft pick on the secondary.

Secondly, we lost Whittle, and signed a cheaper replacement who seemingly fills the exact same role.

Third, the draft is loaded with quality linebackers, so I'm not so nervous that we haven't addressed this spot just yet. I'd like to see the Arrington signing and a first round pick spent to address the lack of depth that was so blatently apparent at the end of last year that even the least seasoned of fans were quick to point out. Prior to injuries depleting the LB corps last season, the group played fairly well, so I'm excited to think about what that group could do with talented backups.

So, yeah, I like what we've done so far.

  5. This was discussed in another thread already but I'll say my thoughts here again. If Williams were to be available that presents a great opportunity to trade that pick. If we couldnt I still would draft a LB, I wouldnt draft Williams just because he fell to me. I do not think we need a RB. Jacobs still has a ton of potential, im perfectly fine with him as the primary RB to Tiki. If one thing is for certain going into every draft there is always a good talent at the RB position.

I know people will say well he's the BPA. I dont buy into that, and I dont buy into drafting need. Its really a combo of the two. At pick 25 there will be a very talented LB there and I honestly think he will not be worth picking over. Whether its Greenway, Sims, Ryans, or Carpenter, to us there would be more value picking one of those guys then taking Williams.

    Well said.
